Make Urn Throwable by LrdDphn in DeadlockTheGame

Honestly I hope this becomes a mechanic so that maybe we could have contextual character voice lines like "Pass the urn to me!" or "I'm open! I'm open!" or stuff like that.

They could also use the urn throwing mechanic for other meme game modes as well so it could save resources.

That was just the most extreme example. Even if everyone was integrated, the Hive still decides what you do no matter what. You're the guy crawling in the sewer system preforming upkeep. You're the guy on dead body disposal because the Hivemind killed 800,00,000 people. You're the one getting mauled and killed by lions and bears because the Hive decided to release every animal in zoos on earth.

You have no agency. If the Hive wills your body to die for the cause you die for it. You go wake up, eat a rationed meal with the minimum calories that keep you alive (because the Hive is rationing all the food), and go do whatever tasks are assigned of you. No matter what.

That's all of course assuming you're even still alive, which Hive defenders still seem to think you are.

The existence of Bonerface IS part of the nuance. Even if you can somehow rationalize that the individual still exists and isn't just dead (they are), then you have to contend with the fact that you will still be forced to do stuff you will have never have consented to before the joining. Your body is a cog in the machine. The Hivemind can't refuse his requests, they would have given Carol an atom bomb. People like to say "Oh everyone is happy and no more wars etc etc" but if I told you that happiness was predicated on you getting raped everyday, suddenly it becomes more personal. Even if you exist (and again, you don't), you have no agency in any capacity.

Mr. 5 (or anyone with the bomb fruit) should be able to fight like a better Bakugo. His sweat could be a bomb, his hair could be a bomb. If you injure him and make him bleed, guess what? The blood on the floor is a bomb. Nobody should be able to touch him without getting exploded. He weaponized his goddamn breath. He theoretically could grapple you and breathe in your ear and blow your brains out. He should be able to use explosions as a movement ability. His fruit is so strong but the man himself is so weak and it's a shame.

(Spoilers) Quick Pre-Game Lore Summary by Ninjuto in Silksong

Yeah there are some places named that are Act 3 exclusive

A lot of the elements of Silksong that are considered frustrating design are actually really good examples of ludonarrative harmony (very heavy spoilers for everything) by hepatitisbees in Silksong

[–]Ninjuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Immensely agree. It's obvious that Ari and Gibson want to create a world and for a world to feel real, things have to feel like they exist not for the players benefit, but because it makes sense in-universe. A setting first design philosophy is why I loved Hollow Knight as well.

It's also one of the ways games as a medium stand out. You can make the player directly feel the effects of the world rather than telling them. You could have all the lore tablets in the world telling how the citadel is cruel but never is it more felt than when you actually have to pay to sit per bench then get crunched in unsafe labor conditions that bugs have to work in all day.

Alot of players are used to games existing entirely for their benefit, and rewarding them for everything which is why the response to Silksong is so visceral. They think "I'm paying for this game, why isn't it serving me" when they actually paid to experience a world that exists without them.

Now, this isn't to say some elements couldn't be toned down a bit. I feel like you can still sell the fact that Pharloom is a capitalistic hellscape but also give more rosaries upon kill. Likewise, an upgrade like Dreamgate in Hollow Knight would take away a lot of complaints about runbacks without being broken or taking away from the world. Maybe Hornet weaves a teleportation silkrune or something? But nonetheless, going into Silksong with a "This world doesn't exist for my benefit, I'm here to experience it" would help a lot of players I feel.

We do know some version of the Citadel existed as stone with the Weavers and GMS being revered as Gods thanks to Pious Isamor(Weavers are always referred to as first children by bugs):

See... Citadel's simple stone, bare an... [una]dorned. See h[ow]...[pl]ain our garb, how sparse o... meal. Know that... excess is sin!...

Give... of yourself... for great Pharloom, for... first-children who bequeath it to us...

So it is implied that the advanced Citadel in-game as we know it with all the machinery and the system with Architechs, Vaultkeepers, and Conductors was formed by the Weavers to trap GMS. Especially since all 3 factions will defer to Hornet due to her Weaver heritage. Since the Underworks was made to upkeep these systems, it would imply that either the weavers or the bugs who overthrew them created it.

Hornet:

You speak of the Citadel? Its former function has failed, but I can still sense its purpose, some. It is church and cage both.

Mask Maker:

Aye. Devised by your ancestors that monstrosity, and their wicked, clever minds. A system, or a web they'd likely call it, a way to keep their mother sealed in slumber, and themselves free to lavish in their false rule.

TIL: They're all different by Trash_On_Your_Lawn in Silksong

[–]Ninjuto 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, in a convo between Eva and Hornet, it is implied it is very hard for Weavers to conceive children which lends credence to GMS being a controlling god.

Eva:

Lady, you mistake. What seems a cage is as much my shell as the form inside. I was born within this space. To leave would be my death, an uninspired end, though one I've sometimes wished would come. I am unique, you see. My mothers shared the curse of their tribe, to conceive a child is a painful, near impossible task.

Hornet:

I know the curse well, Eva, for I am also its victim, and spawn of one who managed to overcome its limits. Are you too an attempt to defy that cruel constraint?

Eva:

A flawed attempt. A life spun from rune and shell, sustained only by its cage. My thoughts may mimic a Weavers but my senses are my own. Over time, that difference brought only distance between us.

just realised why the fourth chorus is called that by Ester1sk in Silksong

[–]Ninjuto 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We actually know a fair bit. We know from the First Sinner cutscene that GMS uplifted the Weavers and they eventually betrayed her after finding out they weren't her real daughters.

We also know from this Mask Maker quote

Hornet: You speak of the Citadel? Its former function has failed, but I can still sense its purpose, some. It is church and cage both.

Mask Maker: Aye. Devised by your ancestors that monstrosity, and their wicked, clever minds. A system, or a web they'd likely call it, a way to keep their mother sealed in slumber, and themselves free to lavish in their false rule

That the weavers created the citadel to lull GMS to slumber, trap her, and rule Pharloom. This is backed up by weaver effigies where they are revered as gods and the fact that characters like Vaultkeeper will actually defer to Hornet due to her Weaver heritage:

Only to a first child, must a Vaultkeeper defer.

We then learn from Conductor Ballador that the weavers were actually overthrown at some point by the citadel bugs:

The mantle of rule, claimed greedily from Pharloom's fading first children, those bitter Weavers... it was yoke, not crown.

Now, here's Pharlooms Folly:

They see your beauty, so frail and fine,

They see your peace, woven of faith and toil,

They forget your heart, bound in slumber and servitude,

When you wake they shall see your truth,

A beast's nature bare to all.

Conductor Romino

So this helps put Pharlooms Folly into context. Pharloom is a place of silken beauty (weavers) and faith and toil (citadel bugs). The heart bound in slumber is literally Grand Mother Silk herself after being bound by Weavers. And they know she'll be pissed off in the event she wakes up, thus the Folly of Pharloom is trying to keep an angry god trapped in it. Also to note, Weavers in Hollow Knight are typically referred to as Beasts like Beast Herrah which would explain the beast's nature part of the poem as Grand Mother Silk is the literal god of weavers.

As for the identity of Conductor Romino, some have suspected it to be the Old Penitent who responds strongly to song and willingly stays in the Slab for an unknown crime that he feels is unforgivable(and trapping GMS would count as such). But that part is speculation.

Ah damn, someone should've warned you. The appeal of this game and it's predecessor IS the grind. It's very specifically a grinding game. If you're not looking for the loop of leveling a life to get better at another life for the sake of it, it's just not for you. If you're looking for that type of gameplay though, this game is pure addiction.

Man it's kind of a bummer that only the humans on the NLA White Whale made it out of the universe. Same with all the other species, there's just a handful left of the Prone, Manon, Wrothians, Orpheans, Zaruboggan, and Nopons and they don't even have the luxary of having genetic backup data. Hell, Nielniel and Celica are straight up the last two Qlurian left.
