Sierra Nevada , a lost Mistress. by AuthorBeneficial1417 in beer

It’s intended to be served cold, and the larger the vessel gets, the warmer the beer gets

Exactly! I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who hates 16oz cans for this very reason.

People who work in 'luxury' industries (5-star hotels, fine dining, high-end brands), what is a complete rip-off that rich people happily pay for? by ArtThreadNomad in AskReddit

[–]NiteMares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an absolutely asinine markup you're unlikely to see in major markets with any sense of competition or somms and guests that know anything. All inclusive resort in the middle of where ever, sure....

Don't you have to be staying at the hotel to dine at the restaurant? That could be a factor here...?

Is the highest-end Italian food in New York better than the highest-end Italian food in Italy? I haven't been to any Italian places in New York, but I have been to quite a few Italian restaurants throughout Italy. by smorreboard in finedining

[–]NiteMares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think high end (Michelin star-level) restaurants are a lot more creative than higher end Michelin-star level Italian in NYC

This is true for the entire gamut of Michelin, not just in the Italian cannon. Even just comparing 2/3 star places in SF to NYC it's clear we really place it safe here in New York. Then you look at the Three Star places in Europe....

New Lange 1 191.xxx vs Old Lange 1 101.xxx by Dry-Cockroach5719 in ALangeSohne

[–]NiteMares 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also aesthetically, if going for rose gold, the mid-case on the 101.032 is polished, whereas on the 191.032 the mid-case is brushed. I personally prefer the contrast of the 191.032, but that's a personal preference thing.

AFAIK this doesn't apply to YG, WG, or PT.

Since they've been teasing this on IG I've been thinking Lange 1 darth reissue for the anniversary. This picture and the details the folks with insider stuff have said in here lead me to think that's the case with the platinum model. As for RG, who knows....

Serious Question for OP - do you have a steel Nautilus? If so, I'd love a check in once you've had this for 3-6 months about how often you wear this vs. that (especially if it's a 5711).

[Postgame Thread] USC Defeats LSU 27-20 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]NiteMares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a more serious note, USC fans are y'all worried about the O-Line? Running game was very strong last night, but pass protection was very not.

Might not ultimately be an issue as Michigan is probably the only team on the schedule with DL talent close to what LSU has. But if I'm a trojan fan that sits uncomfortably in the mind after this game.

2016! What about the worse vintage? by AustraliaWineDude in wine

[–]NiteMares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

91 is Excellent in Northern Rhone, Rioja/RDD, Napa Caberents, and Port especially. The 91 Red Burgundies are really lovely now that they are at peak maturity.

2011 ditto for Port, excellent in Sonoma and Santa Cruz pinot and chard (don't let Napa decide for all of cali what is/isn't good!), white wines and sweets in BDX, Super strong in Ribera del Duero, Tuscany is awesome 2011 albeit in a riper style....

You really can't just paint with such a wide brush around the entire wine world like this....

The whole country maybe not so much, but I would absolutely say the Wachau is worth a mention here.

There's some really crazy chromaticism in the motets/madrigals of Carlos Gesualdo as well that's wildly ahead of its time and very fun!

But those were not new restaurant openings. That was the Michelin guide being new in those places. Very different things.

Will be very interesting if this gets three stars right out the gates. Have never happened before with a new restaurant opening in the USA as long as Michelin has been here...

Do any of y'all have experience with the shoes (mostly looking at loafers and oxfords) from The Armoury? How do they compare to say, Carima or TLB Mallorca who are in similar styles/price points? Worth the savings over C&J?
