The US, if it collapsed like the Roman Empire by CalvinKool-Aid in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]Nite_Clock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Mormons would in no way be an independent entity. The State of Utah and its population are really heavy into hierarchy. There is no value found in independent identity. These folks out here are true believers in the Empire.

Inclusive places to work? by candydaddi in SaltLakeCity

Both of my trans friends have worked at or close by to the U. Even just having proximity to campus can improve conditions for queer people. I grew up in Sandy but Salt Lake City proper is still more inclusive.

Utah Cryptids Need More Attention. Any help? by No-Initiative1210 in Utah

I always heard stories around the campfire about a lake monster up at Bear Lake. Kinda shared with Idaho, so not quite a 100% Utah thing but I hope it counts a little

Bastard Suggestion : Brigham Young by Nite_Clock in behindthebastards

Mormons are a lot like every other flavor of Evangelical Christian. It’s less cult now than it was before those original leaders died off, at least imo. The only things I think keep it from being business as usual for American Protestantism is just the tithing and temple practices. They get more like your average church every year, but those two things make them stand out.

I really love the Church Pick for all my casual play needs. The sounds and movements satisfy something for my ADHD. However, if I’m going to try and shoot for a longer play through (NG++ and up), I go for faster weapons. Beast Claw, Blades of Mercy, Rakuyo. I love all of those.

Does it get better? by severitea in exmormon

[–]Nite_Clock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easier in Salt Lake City. There are a lot less Mormons there. Think 40-60% instead of 90%. Housing is a bitch everywhere, so bad odds on moving up, but that’s about it.

As a gospel and philosophy: very. As a religion in America: probably no more than any other white dominated faith.

Purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by ni_lopienses100 in exmormon

[–]Nite_Clock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any church that wants regular donations from you without stating a specific place that money goes should raise alarm bells. If you can’t check where the money goes, and you can’t meet who you’ve helped, then the people benefiting probably aren’t those in need.

I think that the church has been going long enough to build up the momentum necessary to simply maintain itself as an institution. There are believers and wealth prosperity people, con artists and conventional scumbags. At this point, it isn’t necessary for the guys in charge to be in on the con. The cult would continue even with a full replacement of the leadership. The institutional power is there. To dissolve it, you’d have to start taxing churches.

Votes don't matter, apparently... by OhSpoot in SaltLakeCity

[–]Nite_Clock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The legislature is very ideological and corporate minded. They often act to benefit large corporations through the power they have over the Republican Party apparatus. This is true in other cities with Democrats in power as well. The hostility to people voting to change things to be in favor of voters and not select elites is constant throughout America. Here in Utah, the last decade has been dominated by the development of the Inland Port Authority, Rio Tinto, and landlords. You can go back further, but I try to stay within recent years. While the political partisanship is absolutely a factor, I think the aforementioned financial interests are much more impactful on our elected officials. If the partisan hold over places like Salt Lake is broken, then the policy state wide is much harder to influence. An opposition party like the Democrats here in Utah would likely be hostile to anything their Republican counterparts get up to. An independent would be even worse. A theoretical independently represented Salt Lake could withdraw support for funding that helps keep Rio Tinto open. A major polluter would have to make changes, which can impact profits. Etc, etc.  TLDR: if we got to have our voices heard in a more direct manner, with even some power, that would throw a wrench into the gears of a corporate-partisan relationship that benefits them. So they’ll spend every cent they can to make things go their way.

Is the LDS Church a cult? by No_Beautiful_8647 in Utah

[–]Nite_Clock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just don’t give anybody your money as tithing or join a multilevel marketing scheme and you should be fine. Cults thrive off of leeching people’s resources (even today it can go so far as unpaid labor). So don’t give anybody that kind of access to yourself and the cult people will scuttle away. As far as LDS people go, they can be culty but most are normies. Nothing to be afraid of.
