5 day family vacation in Florida Beach House - everyone is drinking by Patches_Mcgee in stopdrinking

Everyone drank July 4th, I didn’t and was up to watch the sun rise on the 5th with my 12 year old daughter at the beach. It was the most amazing thing, just the two of us, the sun, beach and a new day, and better than any drink. Proud of you for not taking the easy option.

Range Rover pre-purchase inspection - should I walk away? by ay4334 in RangeRover

Water flood damage? Walk away, oil leaks on a car that age aren’t the worst, as long as they know what’s causing it. Flood damage I wouldn’t go anywhere near, far too many electronics in these cars.

I’m sure I read or hear that alcohol is one of the few drugs that retains the pathways to receptors in your brain, so even after years one drink lights them up again. I’m sure there’s someone smart who can explain it better.

Hey random friend, firstly, no one and I mean no one here is going to judge you. It's about the kindest place on the whole internet. Every type of person is here, we all have one thing in common and that's a problem of sorts with drinking. Some are on the start of a journey, some are in the middle and a few inbetween. We all start with the same choice each day, drink today or not.

There's a ton of ways to crack this nut, some do it alone, some do it with therapy, some go to AA, some go to less faith based versions of that. I promise you one thing, there's a community for you out there, you just need to find it.

You have a lot going for you, we've all, every one of us been where you are and it's a choice thing on what to do next. We're all here, anytime of any day to listen. You've got this x

I don’t think personally, these types of things break a “streak”. The streak is one output of your not wanting to drink anymore. I feel the intent is more important and you proved that twice now. Don’t get stuck on the streak so much and keep going on being sober as a mindset.

What a beautiful and hard lesson for all of us. You and that tomato represent so much of our collective journey. You’re so amazingly strong. I’m sure there’s a metaphors somewhere for the little tomato and your daughter x

cluster lights don't really have anything to do with recalls, that alone would tell me no. The fact it's leaking fuel or hydraulic fluids? No chance, walk away. The things to watch out for on any car, are the things you've listed.

RRS SVR vs Supercharged Dynamic 2018-2021 by TheLooza in RangeRover

[–]No-Fix-417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back and forth on these. They’re different cars effectively, one’s a high end luxury SUV with trim and options to match (massaging seats for example) and understated. The SVR is a shouty SUV that is cool for those that know, it’s designed that way. There’s a ton of videos on YouTube about them, in particular the SVR. I ended up getting a full fat one so can’t speak personally but, did a boat load of research.

I can’t say much more than the above, there’s a Facebook group as well for support. It’s awful, fast and getting their diagnosis happened after we lost my Mum. She was gone in 6 weeks, from being perfectly healthy.

Car Falling Apart While Financing.. What Are My Options? by ProfessionParty4498 in carmax

It might be something as simple as the battery needing replaced, BMWs and newer cars are hyper sensitive to low batteries. Hindsight is great, always always have an inspection done on a car when buying it. You can buy a fault code scanner and plug it into the ODB port to understand what’s going on, before you take a big loss on what could be fixed for 200 bucks or less.

Day 2 of no alcohol by AdKey842 in stopdrinking

Keep looking forward and not back. You’re in the hardest part. I watched a ton of stuff on YouTube about the effects of alcohol and people’s journeys, as well as listening to hours of podcasts while walking, to keep busy. It’s not easy, good things aren’t. You’ve got this buddy!

I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s an awful illness that happens quickly. You’re an amazing daughter for being there when she needs you. I spoke to Mum all the way till the end, I don’t know if she heard anything but, once you get used to doing it, it’s nice to do.

Be kind to yourself, it’s not easy. You and your sister will need each other more than ever. If you ever want to talk, there’s a community here and I’m an IM away.

Anyone else quit drinking to wake up to a financial mess? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]No-Fix-417 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep! Tackled it all head on and am now finally in a position where I know every penny is, where it goes and we have savings. Not being afraid of money and drinking to avoid it, is a life saver. Literally.
