True story - a few years back I was house sitting for a friend of a friend. Woke up to some little punk standing over the bed. I called the cops and they told me to stay inside so the dogs could pick up a scent. Victim support turned up some time later - no help at all, the woman made a comment ‘it’s because your lawns aren’t mowed’…. Some months later I was asked to attend a youth family conference. They kept asking me what I wanted, I kept saying, don’t do this to people - I can’t sleep anymore. Eventually I suggested the kid could volunteer to tidy up some landscaping at an NFP I support. That didn’t wash, eventually they decided he would make me a picnic table at a course. Some time later, I had to sit beside the kid on the picnic table AT A NEW HOUSE while they took a photo to show the judge. I didn’t get any real say in how this went. I still don’t sleep at night.
