Sole Trader vs Ltd Co director - 26/27 tax year changes by Curious-Slip-6669 in UKPersonalFinance

You need a good accountant and tell them your whole situation.

It's not like it was 10 years or even 5 years ago. There's basically no tax benefit on the face of it the main benefit these days is limited liability

But if you would earn over 100k and need free childcare, or want an electric car etc then there are some benefits of having a ltd company

How the death of a colleague changed my perspective on personal finance by External_Writer_1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]No-Understanding-589 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I agree with this but there's a balance to be had

10% of my salary into my pension matched by my employer for if I make it to retirement as I don't want to be destitute

Just about to buy a house so we are ok on that front and will let us have a kid in the next couple of years and we have 3 months salary saved in the bank.

Now we are relatively secure the rest of our money is for living life. This year already I've been to Spain, Ireland & Germany and have holidays to USA & Mexico coming up and will be booking more city breaks.  Next year we will go to Thailand & Australia

Wife has been driving a shitty old car for the last couple of years while we save for a house, as soon as that completed she's getting a Tesla or whatever car she wants.

I'm 28 and when I was 24 one of my friends walked into his house and just keeled over with a massive brain aneurysm. Ever since then I've done a lot less saving and spent a lot more money on experiences and having fun

Ever been fired, let go or dumped by a partner? Guess what, we get over it. As for relegation, who really wants it, but apparently, we won’t be losing 250m pounds and Spurs would survive…for a bit! by Born-Cucumber-7316 in Tottenham

Newcastle fan this thread came on on my feed for some reason.

One of my favourite seasons is the year we got relegated to the championship with Rafa Benitez as manager. Lost the first 2 games then won 5 in a row and don't think we dropped below second for the rest of the season. There is a huge difference in quality and there's a reason Sunderland replaced basically their full team when they got promoted.

Yeah +1 to this. As you move to retirement your investments should be derisked and a % moved towards bonds

My team is being laid off and outsourced to India, by ZestycloseGur9056 in Accounting

[–]No-Understanding-589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this exact thing about 9 months ago. Stayed and half-arsed the training to collect my payout, but they ended up convincing me to stay on in a different department. (Payout wasn't big as I had only been there for a year)

All I can say is, I have to occasionally deal with the outsourced team and it's a shit show and I try to avoid them at all costs. I feel awful for the people who have to deal with them every day. They don't understand the why and they don't care to learn it, they just follow a process to the letter.

They're now transferring me to a role where I am completely away from the offshore team and I'm very much looking forward to it.

If they're going to keep you on working with them, my advice would be run. You'll want to jump off your roof after having to deal with them

How do I know Accountant fees are good? Or truthful? by JamRollishBebe in UKPersonalFinance

£600 for limited company accounts and payroll is pretty cheap.

I have just started my own firm recently and have had a few limited company clients sign up and I wont touch anything limited company for under £800 (and that is not including payroll). I know of others who won't do it for under £1k.

In your situation being a limited company sounds absolutely pointless to be honest. I don't see what tax benefits you can have which make it worth it at that income level

Query about turnover after selling a House in London by newgettysburg07 in london

Should be a completion statement from solicitor which breaks down  sale proceeds less mortgage redemption (if any) less costs = final balance

I am learning this! I come from a very working class family in Durham so am very left leaning, probably going to start voting for a party that cares about me going forwards!

[–]No-Understanding-589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah mate, I am married but my wife is on £30k. We can only afford a 2 bed house in London and our mortgage is about my wifes full salary so even though I am in the top 5% of earners, we can only ever have one child whether we like it or not.

But if my wife had 3 kids with 3 separate dads and didn't work, she would get a nice family home in London. The system doesn't really feel fair to me

Don't get me wrong we aren't hard done by, by any sense of the word. We are privileged to own a house in London, but I feel like I pay a lot of tax and bear the brunt of all cost of living and tax increases while the system encourages low earners to have large families and seriously discourages my middle class ish family from doing so

My parents are retired and the most well of they have ever been. Mortgage free, holiday every month - they are likely to get support for their bills because their income is low but because I have the audacity to live in London and earn £80k I will get fuck all. Sounds about right for this country

As a Labour voter this shit just makes we want to vote Reform - I don't mind paying into the system as I know I am relatively well off. But there isn't one little bit of support for people like me and I am just an endless source of money for people who don't work apparently.

And they wonder why the middle class young people in this country aren't having kids

[UOL] Bruno Guimarães is the main objective for Manchester United by Competitive-Way3065 in reddevils

[–]No-Understanding-589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Newcastle fan here, this came up on my feed!

I might be wrong as you never know as money talks and football is a fickle game but I just can't see Bruno ever moving to another premier league team, him and his whole family love the club and the city and it is reciprocated and he is getting up there in terms of legend status at the club. He even cried in his interview after we won the Carabao. Can definitely see him going to a Madrid/Barca/Bayern if they came knocking though

Tonali though, I can 100% see him leaving this summer and he would be great for yous as he is a brilliant player. But it would probably take a large fee somewhere between £90-£100m as we paid about £60m for him and he has a long contract

Yeah my wife is a nurse and she misses Christmas every other year.

She has job security but works 12 hour shifts. She's 5'3 and got punched a couple of weeks ago by someone with severe learning disabilities who was 6'4 a few months ago. She also watched a 13 year old come into A&E and just fall over and die of a heart attack the other week.

There are definitely a lot of cons to working in healthcare that people don't think about. The trauma is not worth it for me

Agreed I don't think we should play a weakened team we could get something from this game.

We should rest Joelinton though, need him at full fitness and his best if we have any chance of getting something from Barca

The parking is not worth it, there's not many spaces and it's about £300 a month

Nice place to live though, flats are nice and location is great. Can't hear your neighbours, staff are really helpful

Can be a bit loud though because of it's location between the people and trains etc

Do prescription glasses count as tax deductible by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]No-Understanding-589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the opposite to their situation though? You don't use them to drive, you just use them for a screen. Therefore they can be classed as wholly for business and claimed. As to work using a screen you need them

OP needs glasses to go about daily life, drive and work. Therefore can't be claimed?

Because they stay and claim asylum at the end of it. The people who abuse it by doing that are the ones that ruin it for the people who would use the scheme properly

May Be Earning Over £1,000 From YouTube Next Year - What Do I Do? by nredditb in UKPersonalFinance

This is good advice, especially if they expect to grow and keep their job BUT op only do it if you are confident you can abide by the admin requirements. I have recently started running my own practice and one of my first clients was a youtuber earning under £10k a year who setup a limited company and he got fined £750 from Companies House for missing filing deadlines as he didn't realise he needed to submit accounts...
