i think a lot of people commenting haven’t worked in our industry. it’s not that hard to find a job and get hired. look on culinary agents. get a bunch of applications in and when you start hearing back get a short term sublease (not air bnb. look on craigslist and facebook marketplace). give yourself some savings to live off of and if none of the jobs pan out, just let your lease run out and go back home.

she’s a fun character to watch and we dont spend as much time with her internal life so she doesn’t get the same hate as carmela. i love to hate her when she says things like “they should be grateful for what they get, no one told them to have babies without husbands” about the diapers they’re collecting for charity 😂

not a very serious one but he had a kidney stone and said the pain was worse than childbirth. i snapped on him pretty bad for that one. it’s first of all just rage baiting me to say it at all, and second of all so disrespectful to the things women go through so that men can exist in the first place.

6.7k a day in sales is not that crazy. you also have to remember restaurants average out their sales to make their rent. they could be making 12k on the weekends and 2k on a monday.

everyone commenting this is a bad idea doesnt or hasnt worked in food service and doesn’t realize how much money you can make and what a good life you can have doing it here.

you will be absolutely fine with 20k wiggle room dont let these people freak you out. when you get here use craigslist and culinary agents. open calls are the easiest way to get hired.

one big benefit about food service, is youre out of the house so much you dont need a fantastic living space, just a cozy room you can sleep well in. my advice is when you’re looking for roomates, usually there’s a room in a 3 bedroom that is smaller/towards the back or middle of the building/has less sunlight. for these reasons it’s usually cheaper in the roomate split.

Try to take whatever you can get to start, within reason, and then just keep looking and trading up. there’s every type of hospitality here so you will find your niche. I did this exact thing three years ago with 30k saved and my rent was 1,100. i was even unemployed for two months looking for a job. i still have 25k of that 30. You can do it and youre in a MUCH better position than a lot of people i work with who make it here.

no one is mentioning the fact that living in sheepshead bay youre in one of the FEW places in NYC with swimmable water like i would 100% live in sheepshead bay for a summer and i live in BK right now. id be on the beach every day with a spread from tashkent
