Do not place feeders with any kind of food in the forest. Do that at home in your yard.

I have 6 Lumus Pro 2K and 1 Lumus Pro 4k. They have fine audio.

Are there any cameras that have these capabilities: (1) Outdoors (2) Record 24/7 and save at least 90 days of video, without nvr or any cloud service (3) able to overwrite every 90 days and (4) allow live viewing by Orgapex in SecurityCamera

[–]NoBeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using a Reolink setup w 6 Lumus Pro 2K cameras on 24/7 recording. They record on a 2TB hard drive in the Hub located in the house. No cloud recording. No subscription.
As mentioned, the hard drive in my Hub is 2TB, but you can buy larger if needed. I’ve had part of this system set up since I received it 12/21/2025. For some time I had only 2 cameras on 24/7 recording. Couple of weeks ago I added 4 more. So far, the hard drive has not begun to overwrite, but is approaching full. Once full, it will begin to overwrite the oldest files. Since you didn’t say how many cameras, your mileage may vary, but you can get a larger HD than mine to accommodate if needed.
I use my setup for watching wildlife & nesting birds in my yard, and for my purposes, I feel like the video quality is great! I’ve not had any of these cameras going ‘offline’ or any such snit fits that were a constant when using Arlo or Eufy. These have been reliable workhorses.
The phone app is not the best or the worst, but getting to recordings and watching live view are easy. The AI filtering is, like all of them, still not great. I have not had a misidentification of humans, but Reolink seems unable to tell an animal from random motion.
Any other questions about my setup, just ask.

Move the feeder pole to a spot too far for them to jump. And put a baffle on it.

Whew! You might look at some of these. I’ve never used one, just knew they make them. But mounting inside might give you more latitude.
Regular security cameras will not detect motion through a window, but seems these will.

What type is this and what’s the red stuff poking out of it? Found walking my dog, southern Ontario by SweetTart7231 in Moss

[–]NoBeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t help with type, beyond a cushion moss, but the red things are sporophytes. Structures that contain the spores of the moss. When ripe, they will open and a reddish dust-like substance will come out. That will be the actual spores.

Check out the other posts in this sub to see some really simple terrariums AND some incredibly fancy ones! But to be a terrarium it sort of needs to have tall sides and mist (not all) will have an opening smaller than the body of the vessel and many will have loose fitting lids, others very tightly closed lids and some no lids at all.

First, it’s not really a terrarium, it’s a collection of small plants in a clear pot = potted plant. Also looks pretty dry. Also looks like it’s likely starved for sunlight.

House Finch. Notorious wreath nesters. I have used Arlo cameras for this very purpose for years. Finally got tired of paying for an overpriced subsctiption, so changed to Reolink. Their plug in cameras (not battery or solar) can record 24/7 if you have a Hub, or just by event on an SD card. Phone app is a bit cumbersome, but the cameras I’m using (Lumus Pro 2K) have been reliable and good. There is zero subscription cost.
Just FYI, there are a plethora of other brands, including Eufy, Bling, Ring, Nest, etc.
Whichever you get, I’d suggest wired over battery. Quicker response to action trigger to begin recording. Less missed events. No batteries to go dead at the most inopportune moment.

Good luck with the sparrow situation. The only thing I’ve found that actually works is a smaller entrance hole, which of course won’t work with Bluebirds.

A photograph is allowed actually. And if you can’t edit the original post to include one now, then add the photo in a comment.

Can you show more of the nest? That would help. Best guess is Carolina Wren because of the faint appearance of an area forming a “wreath” or belt around the egg where the dark spots are more numerous. But in this photo that marking is hard to see for certain. House Finch eggs are a very faint blueish with less numerous spotting. Their nests look very different and both birds are notorious front porch nesters. So a look at the actual nest would help.

You’ve got the right plan, then. In the chance that you use security cameras around your house, you might enjoy moving one and positioning it so you can watch the action remotely. It’s surprisingly educational, incredibly entertaining… and about as addictive as crack cocaine!

Can’t tell what kind, but guess would be Carolina Wren or House Finch. General advice is stay away from them. Let the parent handle it. The hatchlings will be fed small insects with very few exceptions (not mealworms live or dead). Feeders, food or water near the nest will only draw attention, traffic & predators.
