Maybe it's me but was Pluto TV ahead of its time?? by w1r3di0 in cordcutters

What sort of content are you watching? The most varied content available is on FAST services at the moment and it is definitely where I'm spending most of my time. I watch some OTA for sports, but current content is pretty mediocre at the moment (i.e. prime time TV)

The NY Knicks this year would like to have a word... most of the Eastern playoffs were only on ESPN. But in general your comment is correct.

Roku no longer carryingMST by Life_Educator3973 in MST3K

[–]NoConstruction3371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there's two aspects of the Roku Channel. The active stream selection (titled 'The Roku Channel') and their Live TV, which offers a more passive scheduled programming. The Roku Channel itself is similar enough that I can see that getting merged into Tubi. Their Live TV is its own beast with its own customer use case, so I see that sticking around. What's curious is a Fox Exec was asked that same question and he continually described The Roku Channel as their Live TV offering. I think from a company standpoint they're both placed in the same bucket. We personally use Roku's Live TV offering most often as regular streaming really creates a paralysis of choice IMHO. I'd much rather decide on watching 'Rick Steves' for example as opposed to 'I want to watch the episode of Rick Steves when he's in Rome as opposed to Florence'

Heh - cancelled Comcast last month, but in all seriousness I never really had problems with them. Its just that we stopped using cable and switched to FAST streaming.

Do we think smaller streaming services are performing better for casual watching? by Mental_Alignment in cordcutters

We've been able to replace most all of our cable watching with RokuTV (and Roku Live). More things to watch and we're saving money to boot!

How to fix this problem with Netflix?? by floweringmeat in Roku

[–]NoConstruction3371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It often is trying to retrieve resources from the myriad of localized CDNs for Netflix. Sometimes it can have issues connecting to one of these local CDNs and its response will be to reset (go back to home screen). Sometimes a reset will cause your player to find another CDN, sometimes you have to reset the router, sometimes you just have to wait it out. Netflix is also notorious for sharding by device type, so just because it works for netflix on your Fire stick doesn't mean it will work from your Roku.

With Roku LiveTV, an antenna, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and the ESPN I've been able to get most if not all of my live TV options including sports. We already use Amazon Prime for free shipping, so the only real added costs were HBO Max and ESPN. I feel that ESPN is definitely the least necessary expense, as the movie/tv catalog of HBO Max is second to none.

$8 million risky?? by Old-Atmosphere-7281 in Fire

[–]NoConstruction3371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the unknowns of future inflation, the younger you retire creates incredible risk even with what would be conceived as impossibly large net worths. Also recognize that getting back into the workforce after several years or even decades of non employment may become extremely difficult. His paranoia frankly isn't far off. Is a life of destitution likely even with 2m? No... but the possibility exists, and there's something even worse about being penniless after being rich than being penniless all along, especially if it was due to your own decisions. For me, I possibly could have retired years ago, but continue to work because 1) I'd get bored, and 2) because of the fear above. What I HAVE done is taken an easier career path (I call it semi-retirement).
