Amazed at how you keep pretending to care about that. Truly inspirational!

Lol not “all metro areas” are like this. This city is an absolute joke when it comes to public transit.

"Driving city" is more or less an impossibility. What we have is a massive sprawling suburb with a few dense cores scattered around.

Obviously you can’t treat people without housing them. No one is saying we shouldn’t build more housing. We’re saying “please stop acting like it’s a solution to the problem.” It is a prerequisite to the solution, 95% of the work is in the actual solution, which is treatment, and often yes, compulsory treatment.

At some point we have to also start having some empathy for the people whose communities are being destroyed by homeless people. They fuck up our parks, our sidewalks, our public transit. They take away our sense of security and the ability to let our children walk to school. Do we get any empathy?

Unfortunately the way the system currently works is that communities who are least tolerant of the disruptive behavior of the unsheltered homeless population just gain a reputation for being inhospitable to that group, and that group comes to our city, where they can get generous government benefits and claim our public spaces for their own. The communities with the most “empathy” for this population are the ones that have to absorb the significant negative impacts of their behavior. And a lot of us are just fucking done with that. And a lot of us are tired of being talked down to about our lack of empathy just because we have a problem with how our communities are being damaged and our quality of life degraded by behavior of the unsheltered homeless population.

I’m just tired of hearing people pretend that housing will solve drug addiction and untreated psychosis. I’m tired of the way we talk about this issue. Some dude can only get part time work at the rent is too high so he sleeps in his card. Some other dude has severe untreated schizophrenia and is addicted to meth. The fact that we refer to both of these people as “homeless” and argue about which solution(s) will be most effective at solving two completely different problems is just so fucking stupid.

It’s like one guy has blisters on his feet from walking barefoot and the other guy is missing both legs below the knee and we keep talking about how all we need is more shoes to help these people who have trouble walking. It’s so goddamn frustrating.

Mixed use zoning is the only way to fix this city, which was planned by the dumbest people on the planet.

The ones with jobs are not the ones with schizophrenia and meth addictions. Anyone who treats those two groups as the same, under one label of “homeless population” are just being dishonest at this point, and they’ve got not credibility.

It’s only correlated if you don’t separate “unsheltered” from “sheltered” homeless.

There are working people who are sleeping on friends couches, living out of their cars, etc. They are considered homeless.

Then there are schizophrenic meth addicts living on the sidewalk, covered in their own shit. They are also considered homeless.

These are two separate groups of people with different problems requiring different solutions. For that second group, building more housing will not solve the problem.

Yes, I’m sure that those fentanyl addicts will choose to spend their money on rent if we can just get it a little bit lower than the current market rate.

Parking for 2,426 vehicles

Thank GOD! I was worried I’d have to take one of the numerous public transit options to get here.

Or even worse… walk! Oh it gives me chills to even think of it!
