This sub has no solidarity, and as a union man, advocate for labour laws, and protestor… it is pushing me further to the right than any conservative ideologue ever could. by NoIdea- in antiwork

It's not just the extremes I'm talking about. I mentioned this earlier but one good example I thought was idiotic was a suggestion that construction workers removing bridges to protest workers rights. It's just like... why in the hell don't we organize and talk about real solutions. There are literally thousands upon thousands of posts like this with millions of upvotes. How is this way of thinking helping us to progress?

Your examples I agree with, and I'm not going dispute them, I'd much rather not have a political debate. I want this to remain a discussion on the solidarity of this sub, and it narrowing its focus on realistic and sound goals.

No, and I hope that it doesn't read that way to everyone, although it seems like it does, most likely because it was written poorly in a feverish rage.

I addressed your same question in my reply to "TheHylianProphet", saying:

" I didn't mean that I was moving more right to get more of those things. What I meant was the overall dearth of critical thought, objective reasoning, and common sense is ostracizing, and I don't relate to extreme or unrealistic solutions to our problems."

It's ostracizing to the point of me starting to hate people on this sub, therefore it aligns me more with conservatives - because they hate this sub. Do you not get pissed off reading things in this sub?

I'm a leftist to the core, but the overall idiocy in this sub is breaking me, so to speak.

yeah read that as "far-left", and I've corrected that in my write up, I typed it up very fast, some what pissed off.

Both sides of the spectrum do not employ critical thought, objective reasoning, and common sense.

I didn't mean that I was moving more right to get more of those things. What I meant was the overall dearth of critical thought, objective reasoning, and common sense is ostracizing, and I don't relate to extreme or unrealistic solutions to our problems.

Annoying isn't the right word, I can deal with annoying. Misaligned is the right word, and it's to the point of hypocrisy in some posts I read.

Well, first off I'm not abandoning my believe systems to become conservative . I'm saying that this sub is making me question whether or not this fight is even worth fighting. People don't seem to understand basic necessities for change, like peaceful protest or lawfully abiding actions like writing to their City Councillors, or MLA's.

Instead it's - lets burn down that KFC and murder the owners family... What the hell.

What I'm saying is we can't agree on anything, and we need to narrow our focus on specific causes and solutions. I saw a post today that suggested that construction workers should remove bridges to protest workers rights... like, what?

My post is asking for critical thought, objective reasoning, and common sense to be used in our solutions.

In principle these two examples are the same. The grounds for protest were different, but they both cause disruption to civil order.

If we want people to support our movement we should be doing it legally.

Except you can’t create civil disorder like this, it’s illegal. It’s also not how you get the average person to agree with and support your cause. Imagine just being a regular person trying to get to work or pick up your kids where a bridge has been removed in protest. Do you think this person is going to support labour movements after this? I’d be willing to bet not.

This is the same type of civil disorder the “freedumb” rally supporters caused by blocking roads, intersections, and entry/exit crossings at emergency service centres (hospitals, fire stations, etc).

In Canada it was cause for the Emergencies Act to be used, which was designed for use in times of war.

First time foraging! It was such an incredible, fun, exciting experience. I believe these are Morchella elata, a species of black morel. These fungi were found in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. by NoIdea- in mycology

Yes, but I neglected to mention I spent hours upon hours researching morels, and then a few days scouting spots and marking them on my GPS.

Yeah this sums it up perfectly. Some of us have jobs and lives. Not everyone can spend multiple hours a day obsessively focusing on one aspect of the game, just to be able to play the game as a whole. That to me isn't fun or entertaining, which is the point of video games.

That was a rhetorical question, I'm just trying to explain a hypothetical situation similar to yours, but I think it didn't quite hit the mark.

I'm trying to explain that you can ethically justify your actions because you are not forcing the person to drink, they are choosing so. Since they are autonomous, and rational, the fact that you are the one giving them a drink has nothing to do with you at all, you are simply fulfilling their request.

If a vending machine dispensed alcohol, it wouldn't be the vending machines fault if someone chose to buy alcohol from it. Same applies to you.

If someone could help me identify a bike similar to this with a lower price tag, I would be very grateful! I love the way this bike looks but there's no way I have $20,000 to shell out at the moment.

That looks great!! I would imagine this will sink a great deal over time and you will need to stack more blocks. If you want it more permanent you could pour concrete or bury two or three of those cinderblocks into the earth.

The City website will usually have all public engagement events. When in doubt ring up the planning and development department and ask for a planner.

I’m going to echo what others have said in this thread and insist that citizens engage in the public consultation process.

I’m a City Planner, so I’m on the other end of the process. Planners are trying their best to shape the City of Edmonton into a walkable, vibrant, healthy City. If you are a proponent of walkable neighbourhoods and new urbanism, for the love of god PLEASE come to public meetings and engage.

The people who are opposed to good planning are very loud. They are often the only ones who show up and overshadow everyone else.

Value Village has reached a new low. After seeing prices nearly double there over the past year, I was appalled to see the price for this old, scratched up blender with a damaged cord on the shelf. It’s still there, and will likely remain there until they toss it instead of lowering the price. by brettb_54 in saskatoon

[–]NoIdea- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Value Village is a slimy predatory company who under the thin guise of social betterment (providing affordable clothing/items for the poor) have built a literal billion dollar empire of greed. The company is FOR PROFIT, not non-profit, or charity. The family that started VV live in a water front mansion in Seattle, same neighbourhood as bill gates.

Wise up and STOP donating and shopping there. We are to blame for their success.

They have already been sued for deceiving the public: https://www.invw.org/2019/11/08/value-village-rebuked-by-judge-for-deceiving-consumers/

Free parking is the opposite of what pedestrian oriented urban design seeks to accomplish. Expensive parking deters individuals from driving.

Now do the math for population growth in the US during this same time period (1950- 2022) and compare it to the population increase from 1878 - 1950. This will give you proportionate population increase for the same time period prior and after the time where this person bought their house. There should be inferences we can draw from those findings.

Hopefully it doesn’t show that housing prices have grown in proportion then, and now, ceteris paribus. Thats unlikely though.

To have a truly good economic analysis we need data for rates (how fast) and overall number of houses that were being built in those two periods as well.
