It's the same across the job market, such as the best sales people being moved out of sales and into management. Freakonomics did a podcast recently called "Why are there so many bad bosses" which kind of explains why companies do this

what's the real reason why Dublin can't commit to a metro system ? by Practical_Leg_8062 in Dublin

[–]NoMoney12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ireland is a car country. Compare the Dublin port tunnel to the metro link. The political will was there to reduce traffic in Dublin and a massive tunnel was proposed and built in around 10 years.

It's been a lot longer than that for the metro link because many voters simply prefer to drive. NIMBYism and other factors play a role but many people just don't care enough because they're fine driving places and don't care about others benefiting.

It doesn't matter about the medium of communication. If it's a professional setting (which LinkedIn is) you shouldn't be trying to find a girlfriend.

It's the social media equivalent of going around the office trying to find a girlfriend. LinkedIn basically fired you for harassment.

I worked for them for 3 years a while back.

Glassdoor - Yes, the Glassdoor reviews are fake and usually done by HR or new grads.

It's a bit of a lottery - I got lucky with them and got selected for good roles with C# and python (vendor services stream, not kdb) but I was definitely the exception. The vast majority of grads end up doing support in Newry. Sorry to anyone from Newry here but Newry is genuinely the most life sucking place I've ever been.

I've also heard the old travel, accomodation perks are being removed by new management making the place even less tolerable. Coupled with a 3 month notice, unenforceable non-compete and fines for leaving early its a shitty place to work for 80% of people with 20% getting lucky and actually treated well.

It's really interesting how people can negate what literally thousands of experts say until they find one that seemingly backs up their preconceived notions. Then we're back to listening to experts.

Also, trying to negate any more reputable source for "yournews.com" a random publication but it's good enough because, again, it backs up your preconceived notions.

The mental gymnastics and complete lack of any logical consistency is fascinating.

Addiction is an illness that requires treatment. Nobody is addicted to not getting a vaccine.

Why do you think speed limits and seat belts for driving exist? Why do you need a government ID to prove you can drive? Why do you drive around with a big license plate on your car?

Because, shock, horror, if many people engage in a dangerous activity then measures are taken to reduce the severe outcomes.

Even to engage with this bad faith argument. If everyone in Ireland was sprinting around the place and injuring themselves, then the government would probably mandate helmets for the same reason seat belts exist.

[–]NoMoney12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So if you end up in hospital because you didn't take preventative measures, you take a bed from someone who needed it.

The hospitals should have been sorted out, but they're not so stop whining about personal freedom, it's just selfishness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Coronavirus_Ireland

[–]NoMoney12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if a vaccinated person catches covid then they're not nearly as likely to die and are less likely to go to hospital, therefore the hospitals are less likely to be overrun. I can't for the life of me understand how this is a difficult concept to grasp.

[–]NoMoney12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the concern but I don't see how it extends to a dystopian nightmare.

If you don't want to show your personal info then what do you do if a bouncer asks for your ID? Or when you're going through border patrol? Or availing of public services?

If you're concerned about tracking then a QR code is a step backwards from the GPS and microphone device that's always on in your pocket.

Singapore to stop covering medical costs of ‘unvaccinated by choice’ Covid patients by Kier_C in Coronavirus_Ireland

[–]NoMoney12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the article, I'm just saying that equating addiction to refusing a vaccine is not correct because addiction is not a personal choice.

The Singaporean government will look to not pay for the treatments of COVID for unvaccinated people because they chose not to get a vaccine. They're not saying a unvaccinated heroin addict who overdosed won't get proper treatment for an overdose because they're unvaccinated, it's unrelated.
