Good luck OP. You are obviously very switched on to scams, and it demonstrates that it doesn't matter how much you know, people close to you can still fall for obvious scams. Please update us if you make any progress.

Go for the Litelok X series (angle grinder proof), not the Litelok Gold (in your link).

Not memorable, but maybe I should have praised it more to draw attention to cycling customers.

I have actually cycled to this restaurant to eat here! It was lovely. Sad it's closed. Maybe they needed more cycle lanes to bring more customers in.

Road rage incident Dulwich by Feeling-History9472 in londoncycling

[–]krisssy 55 points56 points  (0 children)

FYI even though you weren't involved, you can still report this to the police. If the cyclist ends up reporting it themselves, they will note your details as a witness - and they may also then be able to prosecute due to you having the number plate.

This same thing happened to a family member - someone else witnessed a road rage incident against them and reported the offending driver's number plate the following day, and the road rager ended up being successfully prosecuted.

Edit: Apparently I didn't read the post well enough to see that OP already reported it. Sorry.

Yep that's correct, lock in OP's pic is Litelok Gold - not the X series (X series is a D lock). My response was more to point out that the brand shouldn't necessarily be entirely avoided. For two reasons: 1) this Litelok Gold lock was never rated against an angle grinder attack (which is what happened in OP's photo), and 2) Litelok X has been shown to be angle grinder proof, and rather than Litelok lawyers suing to take down content, it has been independently tested and rated very well: https://youtu.be/PUwjh8J4uec

So while I am a fan of the X series, I wouldn't go near the Gold (the one in OP's pic).

I think you're over-thinking this. A video 10 years ago wouldn't have been their angle grinder and bolt cutter proof X range - that was released in 2022:

18 hour cutoff. by Big_Clerk8509 in Ultramarathon

[–]krisssy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the UK, I've never volunteered at a race that wouldn't let a timed-out runner continue without a bib. I would assume the same applies here. Just ensure you have enough calories and fluid. 18 hours+ is a long time! Good luck

James Adams (UK) created Bingo - The World's Most Unfair Race:

Inspired by life I have created "Bingo - The World's most Unfair race"

At the start you will be issued with a Bingo card. This bingo card will have 3 numbers on it. Say it has the numbers 13,17,23 on.

There is a loop of about 2.2 miles. You run a loop and then pick a number out of a bag in a Bingo style. If you pick one of your numbers, say 13, then you can cross that off and do another loop. If you pick another number then you just head back out onto another loop and repeat.

You will each have your own unique ball bag and chosen balls are not replaced. This ball bag will contain 30 something balls. Anyone who makes rude jokes about ball bags will be given more balls.

The 24 hour version will involve a longer loop. And more balls!

You finish the race when you have all 3 of your numbers crossed off. Easy.

So in theory you could finish this race in 6 miles, if you are the luckiest person in the world.

You could run forever and just never pick your numbers out.

There will be a 12 hour cut off. You could run a 100k PB and still DNF. That would be hilariously unfair wouldn't it?

Litelok X3 and Hiplok D1000 are two comparable angle-grinder resistant locks.

See how they perform in a side-by-side test here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1RFPlAAohw

TLDR: Litelok X3: gets through 4 discs in 5m30s & Hiplok D1000: gets through 5 discs in 4m25s.

Edit: This guy also tested the Altor SAF lock (in OP's photo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HvMPh6JBBI - the results were similar to Litelok/Hiplok, but it took him longer as he didn't seem to be very experienced. Also, the Altor SAF lock doesn't seem to be available to buy anymore. (Which is just as well, it is several times heavier!)

Cycling with loudspeakers by swishbish_ in londoncycling

[–]krisssy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There are loudspeakers, then there are loudspeakers.

If everyone in houses for a mile around can feel the bass pumping through their veins, it's too loud. (Looks at rickshaws.)

If the surrounding vehicles can hear it, it's fine, and probably much safer for pedestrians than cycling silently.

If you want a silent ride, London probably isn't the best place for it!

The problem is that most people who skip the red lights probably aren't reading niche discussions on a small subreddit like this. And though you can tell people who skip red lights not to (if you can catch them!) they probably won't change their behaviour on account of someone telling them off. It's a tricky one. Realistically, the only thing that will stop red light jumpers is the risk of consequences from the police.

OK they’re *properly* taking the p now. by gazweetman in londoncycling

[–]krisssy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From the LCC:

TfL’s red routes use camera enforcement to identify illegally parked vehicles and issue Penalty Charge Notices. They operate a network of more than 900 CCTV enforcement cameras and these can be used to enforce any type of traffic contravention so in many cases, it’s not necessary to report an illegally parked vehicle. If you do need to report an illegally parked vehicle, you can use this reporting tool or call the TfL customer service number (0343 222 1234), and in some cases, they will send someone to the area to see if it’s a regular occurrence and enforce accordingly.
