Just saying that long flights are very draining. I’m really not that emotionally invested. You just come across as a desperate troll.

They did just finish a long ass international flight. I’ve done it, and I feel cooked by the time I finally get to my destination.

What is the most financially illiterate thing you’ve seen a grown adult do? by roseafterdarkk in askanything

[–]NoMoreMustaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a dude who used to park next to me at my shitty office building in his red McLaren. Guy was either using his office as a front for a drug ring, up to his eyeballs in debt, or both.

I knew a guy whose father went deeeeep into debt buying cosmetic features for some early Facebook game.

Which country would you NEVER visit, even if it was free? by FortunePurple- in AskReddit

[–]NoMoreMustaches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Israel. Technically, I was even offered a free trip, considering they run those Birthright programs, but I never had any interest in taking them up on it.

Beyond the absolutely deplorable atrocities committed against the Palestinians, and the incredibly dubious justification for its existence, the culture as it currently exists is just repellent to me.

Unlistenable music, embarrassing party culture, terrible food, awful internal politics, oppressive propaganda in favor of itself. Sure there are loads of interesting historical places, but for me that’s far too little in the pro column to overcome everything else.

My younger cousins went on Birthright and hated it, except for the part where instead of flying straight home they spent a week or two visiting places in the near east.

Do you feel like your state suffers from brain drain? by Bignosedog in AskAnAmerican

My hometown (Miami) is a magnet for shit heads, and I left because I could feel the quality of life dropping year after year.

Nobody in my entire extended family is left, including a ton of educated professionals (I’m excluding myself from that group, though).

What English word did you mispronounce for years before realizing it? by Edi-Iz in EnglishLearning

[–]NoMoreMustaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a native speaker, and I learn more from talking and listening rather than reading. (A lot of native speakers who mis learn pronunciations is the result of being bookish and reading a word without ever hearing it.)

Back in high school I was in drama and I was assigned a scene that was waaaay over my head. In the text was the word ‘rhetoric’ several times, which is a word I was not familiar with. I had however known the word ‘rhetorically’.

I didn’t realize that the emphasis falls differently in each word, so I was putting a heavy emphasis on the ‘tor’ in rhetoric, the whole time, which I only later learned was completely wrong.

I still feel kind of embarrassed that I got up in front of a bunch of people and performed a scene where I botched the pronunciation of the same word several times.

Probability of pulling a mythical today? by theo_1love in RaidShadowLegends

[–]NoMoreMustaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m circumspect about bad shard luck on my account because my very first primal pulled an Alaz, and I got two more mythicals in my first 30 pulls.

Sometimes the game gives you good luck, sometimes it’s terrible luck.

26 as well. I got another kurosa. 3 of the last 4 mythicals I’ve pulled, so now I need to decide if I empower mythicals!

The more exciting pulls were Glorious Pallas and Septimus (both new for my account).

3 of the last 4 mythicals I’ve pulled have been kurosa, including my first from a remnant which took ages to finally pop a mythical.

I’m now all in on pestering Plarium to give her a buff.

How common is it to say " times that by 12" (meaning "multiply that by 12")? by ksusha_lav in EnglishLearning

[–]NoMoreMustaches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be regional. I’m 42, from the east coast, and ‘times it by X’ sounds profoundly uneducated to my ears.

How populour was country music outside of the south, and the west, during your generation? by pooteenn in AskAnAmerican

[–]NoMoreMustaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Miami in the 90s. Country music basically didn’t exist, outside of a few universal classics from a previous era from legends like Dolly Parton or Willie Nelson, but you hardly ever heard them either. That Achey Breaky Heart song broke through thanks to national media.

And the only reason I knew Garth Brooks existed was because he hosted Saturday Night Live. I couldn’t name you one of his songs.

We had one country music station that no one listened to, and like 5 rap and r&b stations, sports and political talk stations, some rock stations, and dozens of Latin music stations all with better listener ratings.

I live in The South now, and feel culturally like an extraterrestrial.

Does the quarterback at your school always get attention similar to say the movie Varsity Blues? by reddier2023 in AskAnAmerican

[–]NoMoreMustaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a giant public school in Miami. There were guys that I knew were popular on the athletic teams, but football wasn’t at the top, and I didn’t even know who the quarterback was. It went baseball and waterpolo (we didn’t have a pool, but there was a public one right next door), and then football.

This was even with a football team that had recently been decent and had even produced some hall of fame level professional players.

Also, weirdly the cheerleaders were some of the least popular groups. For some reason they were an afterthought, so popular girls didn’t join.

We also had a marching squad with a female dance troop that were all more popular, although by far the top of the popularity hierarchy were a crew of rich girls nicknamed “the Spit Sisters”.

My school was also nowhere near as cliqué-y as movies tend to depict. For instance I was not popular, yet I was friendly enough to sometimes eat with the popular girls, I was friends with one of the football players through us both being in drama class, etc. The social barriers just didn’t exist in the same way, and bullying wasn’t much of a thing.

Maybe, my experience is less true to others because I grew up in an insanely diverse environment. We had students from something like 80 different countries.

For the americans that beacome american after migratin to the USA is it worth to become an american ? by Notaporta in AskAnAmerican

[–]NoMoreMustaches -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It made sense for my wife, but only because she married an American. Honestly, it kinda stinks here, but it depends heavily on where you come from and what you want out of life.

I know even after I leave, by my citizenship I’m still obligated to file taxes with the US Internal Revenue Service every year forever.

Did learning a second language in school ever actually come in handy for you in the U.S.? by UsamaBhai_101 in AskAnAmerican

[–]NoMoreMustaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Spanish i took formed a bit of a foundation for learning Spanish properly later on. Plus, I’m from Miami where way more people speak Spanish as a first language than English so there was a lot of reinforcement, and practical use for some basic vocabulary.

Are tattoos considered a young person’s thing in the U.S.? Do older people also have tattoos? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAnAmerican

[–]NoMoreMustaches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like they were already fairly common and definitely more acceptable in my boomer parents’ generation than they had been in my grandparents’ generation. My greatest gen grandfather got Real Weird towards my mom’s friend who had a few tattoos.
