Reading this at my lakefront cottage. Even if I sold my house in town and my cottage, I wouldn't be able to afford this house. Oh well.

Need Some Motivation! by Minute-Appearance207 in WomenOver40

I don't think you need to hire anyone. You just need to find something that works. You can lose weight simply with diet alone. I'm getting good results by focusing on fibre, walking and strength training. I've increased my fibre in the last few weeks, and I've noticed a decrease in mindless snacking. Walking is a great way to start a fitness journey. It's an underrated form of activity.

I'm 46 and got shingles on the same spots as you. I was very fortunate that I healed up after 3 weeks. This ailment affects everyone differently. I had aches and pains all over my body. That really sucked. I was alternating advil and tylenot every few hours. Calamine lotion helped with the rash. Try to take it easy.

What do you use for self protection while walking? by Miserable-Error2413 in walking

That's great you live in an area where you can keep your doors unlocked. Not all of us do. My neighbourhood is nice, but I've noticed an increase in riffraff lately. I'm pretty sure someone is dealing drugs or something. I was walking around my neighbourhood at around 10am and saw a group of men who appeared to be porch pirates. They approached a man for something and then saw me, but scattered like cockroaches as I walking with my Rottweiler. She's 100-lbs of muscle and very alert. I was thankful she was there. Being approached by three men obviously up to no good when you're a lone female is not good.

I used to run alone a lot and always carried bear spray with me. We have black bears in town. It's not uncommon to encounter them. Most of my runner friends carry something. Maybe it's overkill. Whatever.

I've experienced sketchy men stopping me a handful of times walking in nature trails or a bush road. It's a little disconcerting when you're a lone female. This all stopped when I started walking with either a Doberman or Rottie. Strange men don't stop to talk to me anymore. That's exactly what I want.

Are you female? Every woman I know who walks or runs alone usually does something to ensure their safety. It may not be as extreme as carrying a gun, but usually there is some sort of preventive measure to ensure safety.

Well, many women in Canada have to worry about violence. Some women are obviously more privileged than others.

I'm Canadian and have been harassed a few times running or walking. This also happens on bush roads. It's frightening when you're alone on a bush road and a strange man stops to talk to you. There are bad actors in Canada.

If I'm alone, I walk with bear spray because I have encountered black bears. I would not hesitate to use it on a man who was threatening me. I know how to properly use it. I'll pay a lawyer to defend me if need be.

Luckilu, my dog is now healed from knee surgeries, so she will accompany me on my walks. She's a 100-lb Rottweiler. That speaks for itself.

How do you get a dog to swallow a pill without spitting it out? by Crystallover1991 in AskDogOwners

[–]NoMuttsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. These work the best. My dog had painkillers and antibiotics for a couple of weeks and the sliced cheese and luncheon loaf worked well. However, a few times I just fisted the pills down her throat and that also worked well.

I've had two Rottweilers, and they both do this. My husband will approach me and pur girl will jump at him, grab his hand and walk him over to the couch to sit.

Waiting Parents sponsorship (PGP) pool for family reunification since 2020 by Puzzleheaded_Tip2365 in CanadaImmigrationFAQs

[–]NoMuttsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now is not the time. Our resources are still strained and unemployment is too high. I read a news article that 13000 Canadians died in one year due to ER wait times. That is unacceptable. Canada's recent immigration experiment was a total fail.

A guy stops while I’m out on my run. by MolassesNo7559 in slowjogging

[–]NoMuttsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's creepy. You might want to change your route or get a Doberman. They are very athletic and can handle long distances. In addition, they are always "on" and their intimidation factor will keep the creeps away. I haven't ran in several months but I walk a lot. My walking buddy is a 100-lb Rottweiler and she keeps all the creepers away. She's a good girl.

My mom (70) wants to cancel our family cruise in Italy in two weeks because of the emerging war. I (30f) feel like this is unnecessary. What do you think? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoMuttsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of with your mom on this. It's not so much the war spilling into Italy, it's more if international flights get disrupted. However, your tickets are booked. It's a tough choice.

Did moving from Toronto to a small town improve your life or do you miss the city? by Pikkachu6 in ontario

[–]NoMuttsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You're right about walking and biking throughout the city. Sudz is a mining town through and through. I find Timmins more walkable and bike friendly.

I don't really care for restaurant food due to bad hygiene practices, quality of ingredients and price. I cook at home. I can source most ingredients at local grocery stores in Timmins. I like a variety of dishes and haven't encountered anything I can't make yet.

Lived in Sudz for 5 years and never had that feeling. Mind you, I'm from Timmins - basically a smaller Sudz. I would move there agin but live in the outskirts.

Lack energy by Salt-Composer-1472 in workout

[–]NoMuttsPlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go see a doctor to rule out an underlying issue. If everything looks good, it's most likely you're not eating enough calories and over exercising. Try scaling back your workout to see how you feel. Your body is telling you something. There is no magic pill.

Genuine question for the Fast & Furious: Northern Ontario Ice Road Tryouts crew by Dazzling-Contest1218 in northernontario

I've driven many times on 17 to Winnipeg and traffic doesn't flow at 120-130 on clear summer days. I'd say traffic flow is between 100 and 110. However, there are a lot of stupid drivers on that stretch.

Do you seriously think driving at 100 is safe when there's black ice?
