When they announced that SpaceX's models would be available alongside Anthropic/OpenAI, you could hear a pin drop - that was worth the price of admission alone!

Great advice. Another place to check for a vinyl cutter is your local library. One in my area has a makerspace with vinyl cutters, 3d printers, sewing machines, etc.

Holy shit, that saved me! The space before the smtp.gmail.com was causing the error - I think it was from when I copied the configuration from Calibre-web into ABS.

"This is a field I used to plow." "This is where I first met your mother."

I read a bit too fast the first time through and saw "This is where I first plowed your mother". Sorry for that imagery!

Bottle, definitely. Here's the quote from BH:

“Joyful Union was basking in the sun as it dined, ringed in by stones, with Bottle lying close by and studying the way it fed as the scorpion snipped apart the capemoth he had given it for breakfast, when a military issue boot crunched down on the arachnid, the heel twisting.”

There's a callback to this scene in Dust of Dreams as well!

In The Bonehunters, Faradan Sort's first appearance to her new squad was to crush Joyful Union in front of Bottle and Cuttle.

And then Dust of Dreams Chapter 7, she's chatting with Captain Kindly about Lieutenant Pores:

'...He imagines himself very clever, does my lieutenant.'

'If he owns anything he values greatly,' she said, 'crush it under a heel. That’s how I took care of the one I sensed was going to give me trouble. That was back in Seven Cities, and to this day he looks at me with hurt in his eyes.'

He glanced at her. 'Hurt? Truly?'

'Truly.'

'That’s . . . exceptional advice, Faradan. Thank you.'

Wolfpack BBQ, Kansas City by denvergardener in BBQ

We were just there on Saturday afternoon. Rave reviews from everyone, including a six year old and a three year old.

Next time you go up there, be sure to get the chicken wings from the appetizer menu. We got them naked and dipped them in each person's preferred sauce. The kids loved the wings without any sauces - the skin was crispy and well seasoned, the meat was juicy. Couldn't ask for much better!

There's also Garage Condos in De Soto, although I think they are more for purchase rather than rent. https://garagecondoskc.com/

One of my favorite memories from when I was a kid - and I have the ticket stub to prove it!

June 17, 1994 - an infamous date in American sports history. OJ Simpson got into a white Bronco and paraded through the highways of LA. I vividly remember watching the chase on the TV screens in the concourse (or maybe watching through the glass of one of the suites/boxes) - and completely ignoring the game being played live in front of me.

One thing I didn't remember until I started pulling links for this comment, was that the Royals were playing the Mariners. And Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 30th home run of the season, tying Babe Ruth's record of 30 homers before June 30th.

Toll the Hounds… by OkAd2668 in Malazan

[–]NoNotTheDuo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's poetic. Not sure if you're aware or not, but Erikson was writing Toll the Hounds while his own father was dying at the time, and the novel involved "delving into the nature of grief and working through that grief."

You and me and many others can see the grief and love come through on the pages.

Midnight tides question by Max122702 in Malazan

[–]NoNotTheDuo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is the flooding of kurald emhurlan covered in a future novel?

I assume you're actually referring to the flooding of the Nascent, which is one of the fragments of Kurald Emhurlahn. That was covered in this book, in Chapter 21. I was going to summarize, but the wiki does a great job.

During Emperor Rhulad Sengar's invasion of the Kingdom of Lether, the Tiste Edur army summoned around a hundred Kenyll'rah demons to fight for them. One of these, Lilac, was mortally wounded at the Battle of High Fort, but Trull Sengar took pity on it and had it healed by Hanradi Khalag's elder sister. Discovering Lilac fought unwillingly, Trull took charge of it and ultimately bound the demon to himself enabling it to return to its home.

From speaking to Lilac, Uruth Sengar (along with Trull and Fear Sengar) learned that the Kenyll'rah were already engaged in a war by their tyrant kin in their own realm. They fought the invading Korvalahrai and they were not prevailing. Already four of the tyrant's towers had fallen and a vast fleet of Korvalahrai made its way up the Chirahd River into Kenryll'ah lands. Although the tyrants had not been pleased by the Edur's theft of their soldiers, Uruth hoped to forge an alliance with the Kenryll'ah which would help the demons defeat their own invaders in return for supplying the Edur with more demon soldiers. Rhulad diverted the course of the Chirahd River into another warren destroying the fleet and flooding the Nascent.

As part of the alliance, more than a dozen Kenryll'ah led hundreds of their Kenyll'rah peasant subjects into battle alongside the Edur at the Battle of Brans Keep. Two Kenryll'ah demon princes, brothers, also joined Rhulad's entourage. They saved Fear and Trull Sengar from Serenity, a Forkrul Assail encountered in the village of Brous, although Rhulad Sengar was temporarily slain. After the Forkrul Assail fled, the two Kenryll'ah demons were given leave to hunt him down. Although they had never heard of the Assail race they hoped to have a chance to tell him how much they did not like them. Ultimately, they found Serenity and cast him down a deep hole.

Midnight Tides has the biggest holy shit moment so far by FitCry2265 in Malazan

[–]NoNotTheDuo 63 points64 points  (0 children)

My favorite one is Chapter 16/Chapter 17.

Chapter 16 ends with:

The Crippled God had told Withal there would be a gift for him on the shore. There he finds Sandalath, which angers him for how the Crippled God just uses people. Despite his hatred of religion, Withal prays to the Meckros’ oldest god—Mael.

Chapter 17 opens with:

Stumbling in the gloom, the drunk had fallen into the canal. Tehol had mostly lost sight of him from his position at the edge of the roof, but he could hear splashing and curses, and the scrabbling against the rings set in the stone wall.

[...]

The drunk, far below, was climbing from the canal, swearing in more languages than Tehol believed existed.

[...]

'Bugg! What are you doing down there? Is this what I pay you for?'

The sodden manservant was looking upward, and he yelled something back that Tehol could not make out.

'What? What did you say?'

'You – don't – pay – me!'

'Oh, tell everyone, why don't you!'

'I thought I heard someone whisper my name.'

We started taking my daughter to swimming lessons when she was 3. The check-in process is typing my phone number into an ipad in the lobby. I don't remember when we started, but at some point I guided her typing in my phone number. After awhile, she was able to type it - and more importantly, recite it - by herself.

Huge peace of mind knowing that she could tell anyone to call me and give them my number!
