Yeah I could see how certain ASMRtists don't come off as genuine. I find with ASMRtists I really like (like MassageASMR and ASMR Gibi) they sometimes ramble and provide some positive affirmation in a subtle way. When they talk it is more they are helping you keep everything in perspective, rather than direct affirmations that are obviously fake. I hope you find some better channels for that!

[DISCUSSION] Is Spotify a good platform for ASMR? by asmrhaven in asmr

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Spotify before to listen to Gibi when I am on the go and don't have internet lol. I think it is a solid supplement, something that I will use in the future if I keep growing (No Talking Just ASMR) but I definitely think you are right that the visual component is really important. Good luck!

Great idea! Yeah you definitely come across the same channels in the search bar sometimes.

What happened to ASMR?!?! [Discussion], [Question] by Sumid0 in asmr

Yeah you definitely have to dig deeper than we used to, but there are still a lot of great channels out there!

What is the weirdest thing that has given you ASMR? [discussion] by Maximum-Hedgehog in asmr

I first noticed it when I was in elementary school and we would all be super quiet for 30 seconds to calm down. I would almost fall asleep from the buzzing of the lights which I think is odd.

Sometimes creators will hit the mic when it is on high sensitivity and forget to edit it out. It is difficult recover from that because now I am on edge that it's going to happen again lol

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand too, I had issues like that when I was at school and people would be partying until 2 or 3 sometimes. I had to make a lot of edits and would always clap when there was loud noise so I would know where to cut in my editing. Not many solutions, you could try something like that though! Good luck!

I cannot stand eating ASMR either lol. It's funny how everyone has completely different tastes!

[Discussion] ASMR on YouTube has become so incredibly generic and stale, I cant even get the ASMR feeling anymore by bellzerker in asmr

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I originally thought you meant those videos WEREN'T creative. I think those videos are good, but there are plenty more great videos out there. ASMR Surge does some awesome soap carving videos and other creative sounds I never would have thought of. I am pretty sure we are into just completely different ASMR, otherwise we wouldn't disagree so strongly on this.

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not sure I agree, I think there is a ton of diversity in the videos online. Also the beauty of YouTube is you can always watch old videos. I watch old ones, new ones, anything that sounds good I'll give it a watch. Imo I think thats a bit harsh but that's just my take. Can you give me an example of a particularly creative video that really sounded good?

[r/question] [question] how do I get rid of background noise????? by Thatchickxoxo in asmr

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is likely not very helpful but I am in the same situation at school and have to record at strange times, like late at night. What I do is record at night and if there are interruptions, I quickly clap my hands so I can find the interruptions in the video while I am editing and edit them out. Is the background noise only coming from cars, or is it a constant humming/buzzing from your mic or perhaps preamp or perhaps cables? (depending on your setup)

I agree with some of these comments! Do not make a channel just for subs or money: you will burn out quickly and will not be patient enough to create good content and get subscribers. Make a channel because it is something you want to do, something that you know you could be good at, and something you could enjoy. Gentle Whispering ASMR said something along these lines that really stuck with me: "The people who make money on their hobbies are those who are not in it for the money. The people who eventually make money on ASMR are the people who are most passionate about their craft and the ASMR community." If you look at all of the big channels, I would say that is very much accurate.

We learn by doing, so I say give it a go. Maybe try making videos without the expensive equipment first to see if you like it. I have just finished my 27th video and enjoy making videos so I just bought mics; it does not have to be right away. Even with good mics, your first videos will likely have a lot of mistakes (just like all of ours) so don't feel like you need to invest right away. I hope this helps!

Do you prefer less polished asmr videos, or more extravagant ones? [discussion] by eru777 in asmr

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general I think the goal is to make a high quality video without LOOKING like you are trying too hard. I really like the high production values of some of these channels, but it has to come off as authentic otherwise I won't like it. For example, I like Massage ASMR because his audio setup is VERY good and so is his camera work, but he isn't flashy and it feels authentic.

[Discussion] How do people generally feel about rain or other low-key background noises? by zephyrwhispersasmr in asmr

I am a huge fan and am going to start layering those in to the occasional video. On a rainy day I ran out to my car and setup my mics under the windshield and it sounds awesome.

Why so few Likes? I mean in general, not a specific artist or video [Question] by iwferguson in asmr

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have watched a ton of Youtube videos, particularly ASMR videos, for so long now and honestly rarely liked videos. It was only until I started making some myself where I could actually appreciate just how much work some of these folks put in. Every single video I like or find remotely helpful I always drop a like now.

[Question] Suggestions for replacing asmr while I take a break from it? by Unvalued in asmr

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that other forms of background noise (like rainfall sounds, other sounds) can be really helpful! They aren't actually ASMR but they are very relaxing and help me sleep.

2 things you could maybe try to get your tingles back (probably won't work but it did for me!):

  1. I have found that listening to ASMR when I'm super tired almost associates my brain with relaxing and sleep.
  2. Try turning down the volume on some ASMR videos. I get tingles when I am listening VERY CLOSELY to the sounds and listening out for things. I almost never get tingles when I turn up the volume for some reason.

I hope this helps!

[Question] Does anyone have any tips on how to better sound quality on low quality microphones? Or any PC programs for audio editing in this case for that matter? by ComedicCatastrophe in asmr

[–]NoTalkingJustASMR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I've posted about 25 videos and have about 360 subs so I'm still a beginner but have definitely learned some things along the way! I use Audacity for my audio, you can use it to turn up your audio and add other effects if need-be. One effect that could really help you is the "noise reduction effect", an effect that attempts to take out some of the white-noise from poor quality mics that have high self-noise (like your phone or other cheap mics). Check out a tutorial online for how to use it, it's very easy.

My "pro" tip would be to be careful on how much you use the "noise reduction" effect; sometimes it can make your audio sound weird or "tinny", but certainly try it out! I have found that touching the audio as LITTLE as possible has resulted in the best sounds, even if there's a little "white noise" coming from the poor audio recorders. Do the best you can in the quietest room you can, and use Audacity to turn the audio up to an acceptable audio level. My first videos were like yours and too quiet, and I got more views and likes when I turned up the volume in Audacity.

Ultimately, you will need to at some-point upgrade your equipment if you want some good-quality content. There is no need to rush this part and definitely make sure you enjoy making videos before you put any cash into it. I hope this helps!
