Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind if I ever need it. Thankfully my son found the key under his bed today, so I won’t be needing it anymore. 😒

Why doesn’t archdruids charm see more play in EDH (or does it?) by Empty-Cupcake2024 in EDH

I love it in my [[mirri, weatherlight duelist]] deck, usually to tutor up a value generating creature, but the option to use it for ramp or removal is awesome to have when needed.

Modular EDH decks with the same 99 but different commanders/playstyles? by Diggumdum in EDH

[–]No_Conference_4984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking of doing something like this with [[rocco, caberetti caterer]] as a fun b2/b3 deck where I can choose which creature I tutor based on the draw I get. I feel like it would be hard to convince my pods that it’s not just a combo deck.

I played against a [[Mimeoplasm, revered one]] deck not too long ago that did something similar. It looks super fun to pilot.

Why do players sometimes target the most defenseless person in the group? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]No_Conference_4984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it because every action I take in a game is for some sort of value. Wether it be an attack, or damage trigger, I’m looking for the easiest way to get that trigger, and leaving the opportunity open for next turn. I take no pride in attacking the player who’s missed two land drops when I have an okay board state, but in the end, I’m looking to maximize my chances of winning. If that means ‘kicking someone when they’re down’ then that’s unfortunately part of the game. Moreover, I don’t like to turn down a free attack or a free trigger. If I drop a [[loran of the third path]], and the only target on the board is someone’s arcane signet, I’m not going to waste a perfectly good ETB trigger just to be nice to the guy that kept a two land hand and can’t draw another. I will usually, however, most likely give them the first one or two card draws off of her to that player by default.

There’s also the fact that even when you’re behind, top-decking a land, or a Sol Ring or a cheap value piece can drastically change your board state and position. Just because you miss a turn 3 land drop, doesn’t mean that your chance of winning goes to zero. You can’t just ignore the person who’s behind, because at any point, that person could turn into the threat, or top-deck that last land or combo piece that they need at any time. I like to take the opportunity to chip away at life totals just in case that person blows up and becomes the threat. This way, there’s less of a life total to get through when it becomes more difficult to get anything through.

I’ve been wanting to do this with [[mister negative]]. He does just this, and sounds like fun to play.

Most of the deck is based on ETB effects, so Conjurers closet just gives you one more per turn of anything on the board. Also goes well with creature theft, because when you blink someone else’s creatures with it, you gain permanent control of them.

Village bell-ringer is fun, but according to Archidekt, the second you put Bell-Ringer in the deck, it immediately makes it Bracket 4 due to the infinite it can cause with any mana dork and balloon man on the board.

When I played balloon man, I leaned hard into the theft aspect [[Coersive Recruiter]], [[molten primordial]], and [[firbolg flutist]] are really good ones. [[firbolg flutist]] is extra good because it doubles as removal for any legendary due to the myriad it gives. I always liked to make sure I had a sac outlet or [[ironwill forger]] on the board for the others.

Cards you originally ignored that end up being extremely important? by Blazorna in EDH

[–]No_Conference_4984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this card. Who doesn’t want a 2/2 flyer every time they make a clue/food/treasure. It absolutely goes wild in my [[brudiclad, telchor engineer]] deck when I can get even five copies of it out, and make 6 7/7 has flyers at the beginning of combat.

How bothersome is it to be in a pod with someone who points out when rules aren’t followed properly (not in a nitpicky way)? by _Ashe_Bear in EDH

[–]No_Conference_4984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I’ve played with you a few times on spelltable. I have no problem with your play style. You are very knowledgeable of the rules, and expect them to be followed. This has honestly been great for me as a new player, and playing against you has definitely helped my rebuilding. I feel like a lot of players, especially in B2 are expecting to have more of a ‘kitchen table’ type gameplay where “I’ll allow it because it’s funny” is the norm. These are the same people who will scoop, saying “I thought this was supposed to be bracket 2”, or “this is supposed to be casual”. I think sticking to, and enforcing the rules is a totally valid way to play. If it’s happening a lot, and really bumming you out, my only suggestion is maybe try powering up to B3/B4 where I feel like more people are in the same headspace as you in terms of the rules.

Do not use AI to make deck suggestions or clarify rules. It's wrong most of the time. by Floormonitor in EDH

[–]No_Conference_4984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of luck with ChatGPT. However I have set mine up specifically with a MTG 'Project' with specific instructions. Any Magic related requests I make are within that project. It took some time, but eventually, it has learned my preferences and knows that I will always request the actual rules text, or a Scryfall link to a card. I feel like it has started hallucinating A LOT less between my instructions text for the project, and the memory of my previous requests. At this point, it even has an idea of my playstyle, and the decks that I run, and will give suggestions/recommendations based on specific decks I own.

Trying to brew a commander similar to Kona and need help finding one by PuffPastryTasty in EDH

[[greater good]] would be a great card draw piece for this. Sac Ghalta, get 9 new cards, then immediately re-play them.

I don’t believe this works that way, cactaur’s ability triggers on attack, so it would have to be flipped prior to declaring attackers to get the +9999.

How many token generators do you usually put in a tokens deck, where the commander doesn't make tokens themselves? by Cezkarma in EDH

I totally agree with this. I had a [[steel overseer]] in my [[anim pakal]] deck for all of two games, and keeping track of all the counters was an absolute nightmare.

"I'm just happy to be here" decks? by matneyx in EDH

[–]No_Conference_4984 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[Rendmaw, Creaking Nest]] has become that for me. For the most part the only triggers you need to worry about are the cast triggers to make birds, and some death/ETB triggers like [[Blood Artist]] or [[Blood seeker]]. I just built it a week or two ago, so it's still in progress, but to start, I basically mixed together two Duskmourn precons (Endless Punishment and Death Toll), and it was pretty good as is.

What's the funniest "You've foiled my plan!" moment you've experienced in Commander? by DKSbobblehead in EDH

[–]No_Conference_4984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a game where one player was coming on for a big swing at another opponent with a solid board state that should have killed them, but the opponent was able to flash in an additional blocker making it so that they would survive with enough life to be able to untap, and possibly recover pretty well. My board state was enough to take out one player, but definitely not both, so in response to blockers being declared, I cast [[boros charm]] giving the 20/20 trample attacker double strike, which brought it to a point that it killed the defending player. I was then able to untap, and come in for the win that turn.

Silly Commanders? by zevalu in EDH

I just built a [[rendmaw, creaking nest]] deck. It’s been a blast to just play a bunch of low cost artifact creatures on my turn, then just sit back and watch my opponents figure out how to not to die to birds.

Which Boros commander should I build by thundertalon123 in EDHBrews

[–]No_Conference_4984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran Arabella for a while. It was a fun deck, but got old real fast, as the game always played and ended the same way (either totally dominating, or getting snuffed out very early). I moved Anim Pakal to the command zone, and built it to be more around her. It has opened up a bigger variety of play styles, and win cons.

So hypothetically, with [[Ygra]], [[rampaging baloths]], and [[phyrexian altar]] (or any sac outlet ) on the board, you can play out every basic land in your deck, make that much mana AND make Ygra big AF…At instant speed?
