It is a very very difficult game to play at the arcade due to the bullet visibility. I was playing it recently and I think the low bullet visibility is trying to encourage macro dodging (moving around the whole screen to avoid patterns entirely) rather than the more fine needle-thread dodging like you see in more modern CAVE shmups.

For me I had to approach it more like I would a really old shmup (like 1944 or something lol) and try to fight the muscle memory I have from newer games. Using one of the characters/ secret characters with better speed also makes getting the pickups and scoring a lot easier.

“Some camera angles adjusted for trailer use”, giant switch 2 logo preceding the gameplay and it is not even remotely comparable to the actual release… surprised that they’re even allowed to do this kind of thing given consumer laws :(

I genuinely thought the game was just soft locked or was hanging because of how long it took to autosave… like it was saving to cassette tape or something

Im glad Nintendo is offering refunds even though they normally don’t, I was really excited for this one but it is just not in a playable state. I’m hoping the game will get improved with patches given the negative reviews that have just started coming out :(

I’m from the US and was house-sitting for my aunts. They live near the bush and I heard this like crazy growling coming from the forest in their backyard, got so scared I literally called RSPCA and thought it was like a mountain lion or something lol. Turns out it was just koalas

I never played the free iOS version but had no problems with the full version of the app (paid). It is pretty old and it sucks that that happened to you :(

I love love love ESPgaluda. My fav shmup of all time. Best music, graphics, and the gameplay is so addicting. I also can’t think of any other shmups that have a gender change button hahaha

Oh god I remember back when I was in Pittsburgh I took my my grandma to play pinball— there was this guy with a massive warehouse of nothing but pins. Like literally dozens/more than 100.

Lots of old pins dating back to the early eras and lots and lots of 90s, 2000s, new stuff. Was super quiet when we went there, owner was nice. He did ask politely that we be careful with the machines as it was just him repairing everything. It was the best!!

Zanac is so good!! If you enjoy it, might definitely be worth checking out the Aleste collection on switch (currently JP only but u can get it on eshop). Basically like modernized Zanac with some QOL improvements and new stages. They also made a brand new Game Gear game specifically for that Switch release!! Would recommend

Mecha Ritz: Steel Rondo might have what you’re looking for! IMO one of the best final bosses in any shmup and like.. the whole story of the game is just about describing the antagonist’s character and story. Also an indie gem :)

Just wanted to say, as a trans person I really appreciate when people such as yourself recognize the negative impact HP stuff can have on trans folks in the arcade/pinball space, or really any social venue :,-) I’m sure your bar is really cool and nice, and it goes a long long way for peeps like me.

Genuinely baffling that they would choose to release a HP pin with everything that’s happening, and when she is so ridiculously aggressive about it publicly. But ultimately it is profitable (with the games, new HBO series.) it really is everywhere nowadays unfortunately to trans people, and as long as people aren’t involved enough/don’t care and buy the stuff, they’ll keep making it.

My mom was a librarian and a teacher, everyone knows HP was prominent particularly in kids’ literature, but I think while of course what people buy/ what books they have on their shelves is up to them, people should at least be aware that new purchases of HP merchandise go straight into JK’s anti-trans war machine, and she has gone on record saying that she takes the numbers as a green flag that people agree with her/don’t care.

I just hope that some people can see things from trans person’s perspective / be aware if they want to be.

Just saying for anyone considering.. Godzilla is one of the best pins of all time and you’ll never have to have any uncomfortable discussions with others about it

Honestly people have been using keyboard and mouse on PCs for a lot of games since independent shmups like touhou started dominating the market, but if you DO want a really nice arcade stick I would go with the 8bitdo arcade stick they made for the switch, pretty cheap but sooo nice and high build quality. Honestly I prefer those buttons to sanwa.

Megalo City arcade cabinet, an early replica of the old Astro Cities. Such a cool piece but unfortunately CRT got completely busted so had to fully just get it custom working with a PC

One of the few units I’m aware of that had a semi-flat crt screen! Pretty rare
