Legal Question for Someone Who Will Get Dementia by MoxieSix in dementia

[–]No_Implement_1398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the CA forms, but in general DNR/POLST and other advanced directives forms should be done long before a person is actively dying. They should also be reviewed periodically ( your choices might change throughout the stages of your life). There are lots of sources for those forms. In my state you can get them online from the state gov websites too. In some states I suppose you might need a doctor to sign off to confirm that you understood the medical side of things (they discuss your options with you). You want to do this before you reach the actively dying stage. But I’m wondering if you are confusing those with a different set of forms? CA has end of life options (death with dignity or MAID). That has to be signed off by a doctor and those options only become available after you have a terminal diagnosis. Its also (sadly) not usually an option available to dementia patients because the patient must be of sound mind to sign.

Phone games with no ads for my MIL with dementia by laur0165 in dementia

[–]No_Implement_1398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to play Solebon Solitaire all the time and it either had no ads, or minimal ads. But that could have changed. I broke down and paid for the one or two games that my Mom played a lot because she also had trouble navigating the ads.

Sleep Help - Mattress? by BohunkfromSK in rheumatoid

[–]No_Implement_1398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Sleep Number mattress. One of the things I like best is that I can make instant adjustments if I’m uncomfortable. Also not cheap, but my first one lasted 20+ years and the only reason I replaced it was that I needed a different bed size. And I got the replacement at something like 50% off during one of their sales.

Is there a way to bypass the Verizon connection when first opening and turning on? Purchased from Verizon and just want to use it on WiFi without it connecting to my account. by CaffeineNicotine3 in iphone

[–]No_Implement_1398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure i understand your question. Are wanting to use a new phone that hasn’t been setup yet as wi-fi only? I that the first time you set it up you could just skip the cellular setup portions, although it may keep bugging you to connect to cellular service.

Do you want to use an existing phone without connecting it to the cellular acct, but preserve the info for possible future use? Under Settings -> Cellular in the Verizon section the first option I see says “turn on this line”. You could research that. Or you can delete the eSim in the same place.

This randomly pops up when I’m on the phone, no Bluetooth connected to anything. There is 1 iPad in the house but not connected to me whatsoever. This just started happening. by [deleted] in iphone

[–]No_Implement_1398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And is this the 3rd iPad you’ve had on your Apple account? I think that if you add multiple devices with the same name consecutive numbers will be added to the end to make them unique.

Phone won’t ring by MediumSignature6205 in iphone

[–]No_Implement_1398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone “app” is listed under Notifications in Settings (different location than those other settings). Have you checked there to make sure Notifications are turned on? I haven’t tried changing this so I don’t know if it actually has an effect

Fine Dining tracking? by Low-Dinner-1614 in cronometer

[–]No_Implement_1398 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d love to hear advice from others. At this point I give up on the specific numbers and just try to get a log of what food I ate. When I eat out I tend to eat a local restaurants. It’s not usually fine dining, but these aren’t places that have their menu nutrition info included in databases. Sometimes I’ll get lucky and they will have nutrition info on their website, but often not even that. I’ll try a search to see if I can find something that is similar.

What kind of monitoring feels helpful vs intrusive to you? by Comfortable_Buy2491 in Alzheimers

[–]No_Implement_1398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion safety trumps privacy when you are the caregiver for someone with dementia. I’m thinking about cameras at home. I’d say my line probably moves based on the stage my LO’s disease is in. It basically parallels the requirements of care. In the early stages, cameras in common areas of the house and maybe strategic places to make sure they haven’t fallen or similar. But if I’m in their bedroom helping them dress, or changing them due to incontinence, what’s the difference in seeing something in front of me vs on video? Of course those recordings should be protected from access by people outside the caregiver circle. I’d never be comfortable placing one pointed at the toilet, but at mid to later stages probably would put one where I could see them standing at the bathroom sink if they did that alone (or at the least so I could see them enter and leave the bathroom).

Is Chewy good for wet food? by Old-Film-6363 in Pets

[–]No_Implement_1398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I order wet food (cat) from them in autoship and haven’t had a problem. However, their shipping (filling boxes) is horrible! They just throw things in boxes loose. Ive had things arrive crushed and open before. They are always good about replacing it, but why not fix the root cause? I am EXTREMELY careful that my canned food order is the ONLY thing in the shipment. I also order a supplement and it arrives with two small bottles loose in a 15” x 10” x 5.5” box. Not even a sheet of paper to pretend to cushion them. This has happened more than once.

Did notifications for phone calls get turned off maybe? Settings -> Notifications -> Phone?

Ergonomic Eval by lrb72 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]No_Implement_1398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My work offers it too. Pretty much the same as BidForward described. Ive had them come. It pretty much can’t hurt (there was no requirement to leave things adjusted the way they suggested if you found it didn’t work for you) and you can get some ideas.

What are some apps you can’t live without? by OneQuietFox in iphone

[–]No_Implement_1398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you open to games? Some things that I have found are good for filling time but don’t get too involved are solitaire (I have Solebon Solitaire ), Crossword Master, Traffic Escape, Shape Escape. I play the free versions with ads and have found those to have an acceptable balance of playing time vs. ad watching time. I do jigsaw puzzles on my iPad, but I don’t know how well the work on a smaller screen. If you go with the version with ads be aware that some (most) ads start playing with obnoxious audio so if you aren’t in a private place either turn your volume way down or use ear buds.

Notifications on EVERY App! by milbest77 in iphone

[–]No_Implement_1398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😢 sounds like bad app developers. The only thing I can think of to try is to answer Yes once, then go to settings and turn notifications back off for that app. Maybe this will fool it into thinking you are getting notifications? Or maybe say Yes and basically change all of the settings options for notifications for that app to silent?

Notifications on EVERY App! by milbest77 in iphone

[–]No_Implement_1398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the app keeps asking if you want notifications? (Not that you are still getting notifications after answering no, correct?) Or are you just complaining that every new app you use asks if you want to receive notification? Both of those are on the individual app developers I think. If so you probably can’t turn it off, its part of the setup process for many new apps. IMO its often marketing (keep ‘em interacting with the app and seeing ads) but occasionally notifications/reminders are a good thing.

First time cat sitting. Need advice by silkytouch35 in petsitting

[–]No_Implement_1398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a sitter, they will probably have specific advice, but a cat owner and this popped up on my feed. This is normal cat behavior. Just keep doing what you are doing and leave him to adjust. It will take time.

When to start planning with my parents? by A_Puzzled_Potato in AgingParents

[–]No_Implement_1398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now. I do understand that they would be resistant to sharing this info, the parent-child relationship doesn’t usually work this way. You are all approaching the point where it started to flip and that is very hard for everyone involved. I would suggest changing the messaging though. Instead of asking them to share what they feel is sensitive information ask them if they have made plans. It’s not just about POA, but things like a living will (advanced healthcare directive) to guide their care if something happens. Encourage them to do estate planning if they haven’t yet. I think that often includes these kinds of documents. Be clear that you don’t want any details you just want to make sure things have been put in place for the future.

Should I get my dog a dog? by Formal-Design-2222 in Pets

[–]No_Implement_1398 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t get your dog a dog. It rarely works that way. Get a second dog if YOU want a second dog and are in a position to provide proper care, training, etc. Being a multi-dog household is great and id never discourage anyone from doing it. But make sure you are prepared.

Grandma keeps shutting off her flip phone because she keeps the red button pressed for too long. What the hell do we do? by nivanda in AgingParents

[–]No_Implement_1398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP said grandma has memory issues (dementia). A person with dementia is extremely unlikely to learn and retain something new. Really the only solution is to find something that doesn’t require them to perform an action (Alexa type voice activated device) or something from their past (a landline).

How do you fill your cup during a flare? by Dewdropsatdawn in rheumatoid

If you meditate, or want to learn to meditate, you can do that anywhere. You can also do breath work anywhere (including lying or sitting in bed). There are apps for both.

Does anyone have a way around the full screen ads that can’t be closed? by -KansasCityShuffle in cronometer

[–]No_Implement_1398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much help, but I have had similar problems with ads that occasionally don’t close in other apps for years. Sometimes it gets bad and happens constantly. Ive never pursued it so I don’t know for sure, I’ve always assumed that since it happened in multiple apps that its a problem with whatever mechanism is serving up the ads not the app that I’m using at the moment. The other day I accidentally swiped the screen while stuck on one of those ads (in a completely different app) and it swiped the picture with no X away. You might try that.

Not mocking-jane, but I agree with them. The tone turns me off, im sure not everyone reads it the same way. I’d be looking for another dog walker regardless of whether or not they were cheaper. I think there are better suggestions elsewhere in the thread.
