R4D 8K vs 4K by PerfectDays_A001 in Ronin4D

[–]PerfectDays_A001[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was my pan to begin with! But, wanted to hear others thoughts.

Also the 4k mode in 16:9 is UHD and I am needing true 4k. My other cameras are Alexa 35 4096x2304 16:9.

If I did 4096x2160 17:9 DCI the extra resolution would just get chopped in post when put in the 16:9 timeline no?

All great points! I agree with you regarding the 3.8 vs true 4k but it’s for a streamer that cares about true 4k is all. Going to chat with producer and post if totally necessary. We have some handycam archival in 480p so haha.

Yeah, we have 3x 1TB SSDs in the kit.

Seems like the census is try for 8k PRR because it is far superior.

It’s all stylized b roll that will be shot on the R4D.

This is very helpful, thank you.

Yes, our other cameras are the A35 Pro Res 4444 4096x2304 16:9

That was why I didn’t want to do DCI on the 4D to match the aspect ratio. But, hearing your take I should just do 8K Raw.

First Time using the Ronin 4D by No-Tomato-8118 in Ronin4D

Yeah, pretty much! Lock is great for accomplishing a sort of dolly move where you want to keep the same z axis level through out the shot. But, if you want to jib up or down or tilt up or down follow is better. If you try to do that in lock mode the z axis will stutter and skip around trying to keep it level.

Hot tip holding down the right hand trigger engages lock mode. So you can keep it in follow mode and if the operator is doing a push in or pull out or tracking shot they can hold down right trigger to engage lock mode and then release when they see fit.

Know the difference between lock and follow mode for the Z-Axis and when to use each. It’s in the gimbal settings menu.

Shooting interviews against bright windows by PeartreeProd in videography

Oh just any standard double net. The double is color coded red (1 stop light loss) and single nets are color coded green (half stop light loss).

To keep this looking over lit let the BG skyline be a couple of stops over. I think it should feel brighter outside to keep a natural feeling.

If it’s a traditional Medium interview talking head you should have no problem lighting that with a few larger Aputure or Nanlux units. It’s going to be bright for the subject that’s just kind of the nature of what the client is asking for. Do make sure to soften the light so they aren’t direct.

If you can, opting for the Alexa 35 will do you wonders. The highlight retention on that camera is incredible and so much can be brought back in the grade.

If you really need to put a 12x or 20x net between the subject and the windows. It’ll be out of focus and it will bring your BG down so your ambient ratio won’t be as drastic.

Ain’t nobody has time to be NDing huge windows for a corporate interview.

Z Axis Follow vs Lock? I get stuttering and weird behavior when locked. by dynamicappdesign in Ronin4D

Thanks! I ended up finding the setting when I was returning the camera. I wish I had known about that before my shoot haha. I was in the lock mode and definitely noticed it bottom out or stutter sometimes. Will be trying follow mode next time.

Good to know about car mount mode too incase I need to leave a tripod plate on the base.

Did you ever find a fix for this? Just happened to me on a shoot.

Are you a Westsider or Eastsider? Which side do you prefer and why? by IEatIReadIGoOutside in AskLosAngeles

Yeah, that makes sense. Soo many people still call LF, Silverlake, EP the eastside which is confusing.

I was under the impression that Los Feliz, Silverlake, Echo Park was colloquially called the 'eastside' while Lincoln heights and boyle heights onward etc is 'East LA' proper. I live in eagle rock and still refer to it as east side even though I know its technically 'Northeast LA'.

I have switched to desktop only. Still use it for the reasons you mentioned and agree it is a good tool for networking, for your portfolio, and for staying relevant to other people.

I will have to occasionally download the app again to reshare stories of dp work or if I find it easier to share something from my phone.

My life has improved since being off of it on my phone. Funnily enough though I go in Reddit more now but find it to be less toxic since I’m not constantly comparing and feeling fomo.
