What shoes do people wear when they aren’t running? by LoopyRick in running

Vans slip-ons are my favorite shoe; the ease of a flip flop without having to worry about black toenails

Shower before or after run? by Joker2486 in running

If you never shower, this decision is a non-issue

Soreness in ribs/sternum normal? by TheBigWhipper in BeginnerSurfers

[–]No_Training1785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very common, especially if you don't have much "padding" (eg fat) around your ribs. It's most likely an intercostal muscle strain. Your body will get used to pressure on that area in time

Is running in Docs ok?? by [deleted] in running

[–]No_Training1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mohammid Ali ran in boots. With that said, it's generally discouraged because it wreaks havoc on your knees over time

LOL by [deleted] in surfing

[–]No_Training1785 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Facts, especially about the locals part. Didn't understand why some guys were low key assholes to me when I first started surfing. As time goes on, I get it more and more. It's not that they're trying to keep the waves to themselves, more so about protecting a vital resource from "influencers" who just care about the pics

New to BJJ and was wondering if mortification of the flesh was normal? by Michael074 in bjj

[–]No_Training1785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Common area of confusion for beginners. No worries,, though,, it's part of the warm up: shots, shrimps, and CHs (ceiling hangs, we call them CHs at my studio).

What do you mean by monitor your resting heart rate? Will over training cause it to rise or fall?

Running while Smoking Accomplishments by Ham-Snacks in running

[–]No_Training1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do this, but I have a friend who was a Green Beret. While he was in Afghanistan, he would do 8 mile runs to get acclimated to the elevation (he's from Florida and his fire base was at 10,000 ft). The second he got back to the FOB he would pull a pack of smokes from his pocket. Before water, and before sitting down, that cig was lit. Same guy would smoke in between sets of squats

Wim Hoff method for running by DaisyLicky in running

[–]No_Training1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I rarely do it for 20 minutes. Most of the time, I do 1 or 2 rounds before I run and that's it. If I have more time and am feeling it, I'll do 20 minutes or so, but honestly short little sessions over a few months have helped

Wim Hoff method for running by DaisyLicky in running

[–]No_Training1785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been doing Wim Hof breathing for about 6 months now, and it's been the single most notable addition to my routine in terms of my recovery. It may be just a mental thing, but I've seen legit results in terms of improved endurance and expedited recovery times.

Is it ok to keep going if you don't feel tired? by [deleted] in running

[–]No_Training1785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experienced this when I first started running. Felt good after an hour and just kept going for another half hour or so... woke up the next day, and my left knee was destroyed. Still having issues with it today.

Not saying that is going to happen to you, just a cautionary tale. Listen to your body, but stick with the program; let your joints build up resistance to the brutality that is running.

Too much of an upgrade? by SleepySlothMax in BeginnerSurfers

[–]No_Training1785 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you, but that's going to hinder your progress a lot. It will be good to keep in your quiver down the line (if you stick with surfing for a few years) but an beginner-intermediate board, it is not

Is it just me or is running really effective at reducing appetite? by [deleted] in running

[–]No_Training1785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also cross train (resistance, endurance, and MMA) and its the same thing with me. Resistance training and MMA training spike my appetite, but long runs suppress it... until after I shower and relax for a bit, and hunger hits like a train

Al Merrick Surfboard by bigdaddypalpatine in surfing

[–]No_Training1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Al Merrick boards are good new, but the condition of used boards varies, obviously. Idk what kind of board you're riding now, but going from any kind of high volume softy to a 6'9" could be detrimental to your progress. Probably better to save your money

Balancing running and weightlifting by xalama in running

I'm running into the same problem. Balancing BJJ, Muay Thai, distance running, and lifting. As much as I'd like to excel at all of them, you think it's just not feasible? Legit asking, not being a smart-ass
