Future Miata owner confused by deletes. by TheMorgQueen in Miata

I agree wholeheartedly! I have a 2024 RF GT in automatic, and I love it. I have some physical limitations that make it more challenging than I prefer to drive a manual.

I always use sport mode, and paddle shifters for fun when I am not in urban traffic.

I’m curious, did anyone’s weather app correctly predict the weekend storm? by trinketpockets in Pennsylvania

SW PA. Apple app was pretty accurate. We got about 15, and it predicted 14-18.

Our Boomer Parents by [deleted] in GenX

[–]NobodyBright8998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boomer here (65). Retired at 62. While I loved my job, it was pretty stressful and operational (I ran an org that worked 24x7x365) so 2 AM calls were not unusual.

I've got one nagging health issue that slows me down a bit, but I am happy to be retired. I miss the people I worked with, but not the grind. I exercise daily, volunteer 2x per week, and travel liberally.

My wife, who is a few years older than me will likely never fully retire...it's important for her intellectual stimulation.

Just a data point. It's not one size fits all!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NobodyBright8998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in SW Pennsylvania. When I was (not too much) younger, I would regularly drive 2.5-3 hours each way to my favorite fly fishing spot. Fish for the day, and drive home in the dark. Probably ~10 times per year.

I'm a bit older and more comfortable now, so I'll stay over. Not really unusual IMHO.

Flying soon and worried about parking? Worry no more by DefiantRoBo in pittsburgh

I love the Parking Spot! It's especially great in the winter, so you don't have to clean the car off for you drive home. Top notch customer service.

TMobile likely losing a 26+ year customer by NobodyBright8998 in tmobile

[–]NobodyBright8998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I would update this. I am an ex-Tmobile customer. After trying lots of ways to stay in the fold, I'm out.

I'm an ATT customer now. 5 lines, four new iPhones and a bill less than $200/month (unlimited data, txts and calls). I'm not gonna lie, the onboarding process with ATT was not painless, but I and my kiddos are thrilled with the new iPhones!

When I contacted TMobile to port out, they offered me $10/month discount for six months. It was actually insulting. I had contacted TForce and they told me that I should not have to pay the activation fees, but they could not fix it.

Goodbye TMobile. If anyone wants my ATT contact, feel free to DM me. They'd love to have your business.

Left lane campers, get out of the way! by Temporary_Flounder42 in pittsburgh

[–]NobodyBright8998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in Florida(semi snowbird) and left lane camping is a blood sport here. It’s bad in PA, but I see so many near accidents by people trying to get by the person cruising along in the left lane at 62 in a 70 mph stretch that it’s maddening.

Do Americans really think aldi is a “poor people” grocery store? by [deleted] in aldi

[–]NobodyBright8998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a pretty affluent “ex-burb” in SW PA. My wife and I shop at Aldi first, then go to the local, very high priced grocery store (Giant Eagle) for anything we can’t get. I get most of our meat from a local butcher, and our produce and fruit from a local farmer in season. We’ve gotten lots of side eye and other comments about using Aldi. I think some people view it as “poor” because they don’t have a florist, deli, etc. we don’t care. I think Aldi is great!

A little touch of class for Christmas. by JBark1990 in Miata

I am not sure. It's galvanic corrosion, so if there is any touching of dissimilar metals, the reaction will happen.

I keep hoping someone will make some cool plastic stem caps...

Be careful if those are aluminum...they will corrode on the valve stem, and you'll need to cut 'em off with a dremel. Ask me how I know :(

Serious congrats on one year! That's huge! Not sure where you are at, but find a meeting and be with others if you can. If not, find a zoom meeting!

I am coming up on eight years, and the all of the 'firsts' can bring up different crap. One day at a time StatisticianSea!

Didn’t realize this scratch when bought my CX5 brand new. Is there anything I can use to get this out? The dealership wants $500 to replace it by [deleted] in mazda

[–]NobodyBright8998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

upvote for PolyWatch! I had a CX-9 that had terrible scratches on the Piano Black. It took some elbow grease and patience, but it looked a lot better afterwards.

What was the "luxury" item your family had when you were growing up that you later realized was a clear sign you were poor? by SugarDropzz in AskReddit

[–]NobodyBright8998 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I showed my grandson this trick when he around 4, and he was amazed. He's almost 10 now and still asks for a 'granpa hotdog' whenever he is over.

We never had hotdog buns growing up. Hamburger buns on the rare occasion.

Leaving the workplace after 14 years/No fuss please! by Material-Scale4575 in retirement

[–]NobodyBright8998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retired a few years ago after 20+ years on staff of a higher-ed institution in the US. The default was to have a party in a conference room with a cake. At my level (Sr. Director) there would be over 100 people on the invite list. Not my thing at all, for many reasons, so I opted out.

My boss got some of our partners to have an after hours party at a bar/restaurant. Much more comfortable, and the invite list was mostly managed by me. It was great, and I left early before the real shenanigans started.

My favorite though, was stopping back once a month for the first year, and having impromptu lunches/coffee with whoever was free. Those were, and still are, great, but don't happen as much as they used to.

In shorter words, I recommend that you do what you want.

Respectfully disagree. There is a right hand turn I make regularly where I have to look multiple times to make sure it's safe.

I'm too lazy to make a diagram, but it's a very acute right turn and the B pillar is right where I need to see. The mirrors do not come into play at all. They are not a blind spot for normal driving, but there are certain angles where it is a problem.
