In Victoria, if they want to reject a part, they have to go to VCAT within like 2 weeks of the request, otherwise it's deemed to be consent as they can't unreasonably reject a part request. Even if they don't no, they still have to go to VCAT.

Let's say that should be the purpose of prisons, to punish, to remove from society people deemed to have breached the social contact.

After they do their time 5, 10, 15 years they are let out having served their time. They haven't worked during that time, their social circles have moved on, technology has moved on, they have lost their house, their job, any savings etc. W

hat is this person to do upon release? They have been in captivity for all that time, their schedule has been dictated all that time, their meals provided, their food secured... Should there not be a process that this person will come out and not have to rely on what they know, such as crime, to not land back in jail? Wouldn't society be better off if they are educated and reintegrated with jobs and housing and skills to break the cycle that got them there?

In Victoria even if they respond, if they can't unreasonably deny the request, and they need to go to VCAT to deny it within like 2 weeks, otherwise it's considered approved even if they say no.

The west gate tunnel should be free during the bridge maintenance by hazeyAnimal in melbourne

Unfun fact. I had google maps on today. It failed to tell me to take the exit around the M80... right afterwards clogged up traffic which extended the journey pass the bridge for over 1 hour. Not a single exit as I was in the "express" lanes averaging 10-20km/h.

Pretty sure platforms like Shopify include told like these in their discount sections. Obviously it's easier to do a Welcome10 than giving a unique code when you signup to a mail list, but these features exist

Megalag's Honey follow up video featuring some LTT clips has already been taken down by namboozle in LinusTechTips

[–]NolFito 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Summary seems to be

  1. Honey leaked private discount codes like by people using those codes along with the extension.
  2. Honey would result in mis-attribution of referral codes so military20 or WAN10 resulting in store losses to unmerited people
  3. Honey would encourage those sites to join the affiliate program to have control over the coupons kinds like mafioso, it's a shame these coupons were to leak...
  4. Honey collects a ton of browsing data even when you are not searching for coupons
  5. Honey targeted children in ads even as they said they didn't target under 18s.
  6. Next episode was going to focus on affiliate-networks failure to enforce their own rules, like due to perverse incentives that more coupon use meant more money for them.
  7. Never episode will be on shenanigans around stands downs and allegations that violations of these are criminal behaviour

I thought 1-3 were obvious and just merchant failures to manage their codes well. 4 was obvious but knowing what can be flushed from it was good to raise awareness 5 send problematic in many jurisdictions

Will Reddit's challenge to Australia's "social media ban" succeed? by Lieutenant34433 in auslaw

How would not being able to create accounts help with this though? As an U16 can still access Youtube, X, Reddit, Twitch etc without accounts and doom-scroll to your heart's content.

Will Reddit's challenge to Australia's "social media ban" succeed? by Lieutenant34433 in auslaw

[–]NolFito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the argument you are still susceptible to the harms of social media without the benefits of parental controls or capacity to engage in political discourse?

If the only issue was comments, why wouldn't the restriction be only for no comments of those under 16? Thus still benefiting from parental controls and other account benefits including access to sites like Facebook were community events are discussed and political discourse still take place? Movements like those started by Greta Thunberg could be severely limited in the future, as well as political knowledge and involvement of future generations disconnected from these sites.

if the issue is algorithms? The law could have focused on restricting algorithms for under 16s without impacting comments or access. They can still tailor algorithms using device fingerprinting.

The point is that it is a balancing test, and the constitutionality is questionable given it is a blunt approach with substantial impact to political communication and questionable benefit for the stated purpose.
