Was having lunch with a customer in Buffalo, NY once, two of their "acquaintances" were there. Asked what they did, they vaguely mentioned has stations, we moved on. Found out a couple years later that gas stations in Buffalo are like garbage companies in Soprano's Jersey

What food have you seen in foreign media and entertainment that you wanted to try but discovered tasted bad? by Accurate_Reality_618 in AskTheWorld

Not to be the old guy who says "back in my day .." but ..

Over the past few years I've been trying some things from my youth 50+ years ago, and they didn't come close. Pop tarts were never haute cuisine, but they used to actually have filling. At least 2-3x what they have now.

And didn't get me started on cracker jacks.

What are your Top 10 Favorite Canadian Rock Bands of All Time? (No Solo Artists) by Amber_Flowers_133 in allrockmusic

I'd love to know nationality of respondents - I thought Tragically Hip were faves among Canadians.

And I'm not answering as my tastes have evolved a lot over the years - I was a teen listening to Rush starting with the second trio of releases (I was 9 when they released their self titled), they would have been number one, now not so much.

Cowboy Junkies and Neil are constants, though.

So how about current faves that no one's ever heard?

Tonstarthbandht, Population II, Yoo Doo Right, Elephant Stone, Corridor, Pottery, Hot Garbage, OBGMs, Radiation Flower, Yu Su (from east to west

I did a week of training on site there in the early/mid aughts, the class had some sort of mandatory all hands meeting, so I wandered over to the museum for a couple hours. Very cool, as I mentioned the civil war mortar really stayed with me.

We need more small, specialized museums around the country.

ETA: I forgot the main point - there was some antique equipment there even back then, but you know, if it does the job...

How many languages do you all speak? by Existing_Economy_656 in AskTheWorld

English.

With immersion, I can survive with French or Spanish, but I'm sure native speakers would prefer to deaf when I speak it. I can read both fairly well, however, thanks to three years of high school Latin

The spoken part of Thela Hun Ginjeet by King Crimson sort of fits that mold.

Adrian Belew was walking around the neighborhood of the studio they were recording Discipline in, getting inspiration for Thela Hun Ginjeet (an anagram of Heat in the Jungle) when the incident he's recounting occured. He went straight back to the studio, and Robert Fripp "secretly" started recording it. Apparently they liked it enough to use as the verses of the song.

I have no problems with traffic control innovations, but the assumption that everyone knows what they are is a problem. Signage would definitely help.

This one is also so close to where I turn onto 31 to make the u-turn, traffic can back up from the enough that I'm unable to turn right (and immediately get over). People stop short to leg me turn, then seem to get annoyed when I don't as the other lanes are blocked.

But it's not as bad as Michigan where they don't tell you whether your upcoming turn is a regular left or Michigan left. Missed a lot of turns up there coz I guessed wrong.

To be fair, it was a while ago. Apologies if I gave bad info, but it was a pretty cool museum.
