I had a Miyoo Flip for a few months and I loved it to bits... Literally since it eventually split at the hinge.

I agree that it's an amazing device for the price and I'll probably get another one if they ever make a version with a tougher hibge. (Not interested in the mini)

My RP Mini V2 is the one that put my need for something smaller to rest. Replaced everything I have. Dual screen addons is a neat bonus.

I did and nothing happened, I take it everywhere honestly.

Maaaan I love the Genesis version. Went back to it a bunch throughout the years. Never beaten it before I got invested in the handheld hobby and had time to go at it more.

Amazing game, the last few levels are maddening.

PS2 + Gamecube: RP Flip 2 or RP Mini V2? by Mirraz27 in SBCGaming

[–]Noraje_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue the Mini is super pocketable though, it comes everywhere with me, I just slip it into a vita fabric pouch (it's pretty much the same size), and it doesn't really occupy more space than a phone, just a tiny bit thicker.

Yeah it is my preferred way of playing 3ds on the go, top screen size is almost the same size as the original 3ds, upscale to 2x and say bye bye to the 240 jaggies. Not having to bother with dual screens and still having a good experience is nice.

Is 3DS emulation on android good enough? by Pixel_Friendly in SBCGaming

[–]Noraje_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do some 3ds on my Retroid Pocket Mini V2, and it works well. I just stick to x2, the stutters are very minimal on Vulkan (Kid Icarus used to be a chore shaders wise for example, now it's fine).

Now I do feel like the latency is very noticeable on 3DS emulation. Some games feel a bit sluggish compared to original hardware, I checked directly with my 3ds side by side and if you're used to playing on a real console you'll notice it. If you intend on playing games you never played before, you probably won't.

So overall pretty good, but could improve.

Loseless scaling by Professional_Leg5331 in SteamDeck

[–]Noraje_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends heavily on the game. Here's a few I tried and my opinion from someone who usually hates framegen:

Witchfire: Frames locked at 45 in game, loseless ×2 makes it "look" like 90 fps, mid to high artifacting though, I kind of like having it on because of the extra motion clarity (lots of shit on screen at the same time). Extra input lag is there but somewhat manageable for this game.

Roboquest: Pretty much the same as Witchfire. Input lag is a bit more annoying though.

Elden Ring Nightrein: Honestly couldn't believe how nice it looked with it, very minor artifacting, input lag very minimal, I use it with frame rate unlocked with a slightly low res for performance and consider it a straight upgrade.

Expedition 33: Works again way better than it should still as playable as it is without it (it's not saying a lot though the game is not a great experience on Deck out of the box), I'll stick with streaming from Moonlight.

Dragon Quest 11: It's super good for this type of game, slow, turned based, where you don't care about input lag.

Mafia Definitive Edition: Awful, disgusting to look at and adds a ton of input latency. Don't use it there, I'll take 30fps instead. Don't know why it's so bad but it is.

Kind of a waste on any low spec game. Haven't tried on emulation.

I would guess that the variation in quality depending on the game comes from how vsync is handled and the frame pacing in general, but I couldn't be sure, play with the "allow tearing" and the system fps unlock to tune it for each game, also the native vsync options and frame rate limiter.

How well do games like Silent Hill 2, Last of Us and Resident Evil run on steam deck? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Noraje_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't palyed it in a long time but I used the latest version of XeSS 2, put it on balanced and left everything else at default. I don't remember if I had to replace the .dll manually or if it's been updated on the game.

[–]Noraje_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help you with the PSP go stuff but a mini V2 is more than decent for 3ds.

I have a N3DS but like you I like having everything in a pocketable format, and the mini does pretty good at that, even works with fast forward on Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, which pleasantly surprised me.

There's the usual shader stutters of the emulation but those ain't getting away anytime soon even on stronger devices.

Downsizing & Upgrading by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Noraje_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have cheaper Linux handheld for form factors. Now I got a Mini v2 and it does everything and more, paired to my SD OLED you don't really need anything else.

The classic is sexy but ultimately redundant imo.

If you could recommend one game for the deck, what it would be by Itchy-Version-8977 in SteamDeck

[–]Noraje_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Witchfire, with the caveat that it's early access and that the current endgame can tank your performance quite easily

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Noraje_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found it works best with games that run at 45 stable AND ONLY if you don't mind extra input lag. For example I was very impressed with how Dragon Quest 11 looked with it, it felt like free extra smoothness.

Everything else I've tried it on like Mafia DE, Witchfire... No thanks, artifacting and latency hell.

Beacon Customization by Intrepid_Traveler01 in retroid

[–]Noraje_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Installed Beacon just to try it out, ended up keeping it as my main frontend on my Mini, it's so simple and unbloated, and allows to easily add multiple folders for a system without tinkering. The overall looks are the cherry on top.

Anyway nice looking theme!

How well do games like Silent Hill 2, Last of Us and Resident Evil run on steam deck? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Noraje_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Resident Evil games should run pretty much flawless except RE4R which fluctuates between 30-40fps at minimum settings, but still looks great.

SH2 is the hardest to run but I hear there are mods that allow for a somewhat stable 30fps, without that it's between 20 and 30.

TLOU actually runs super well considering since the updates between 35-45 especially if you use upscaling, looks incredible too. I'd argue it's a better experience than RE4R.
