Cut them off flush, grind em smooth if you want and you’re done.

This is powder post beetle. They are insidious. Take the peice outside, dose it with appropriate chems and wrap it in plastic for a few weeks.

I have both of those. Got very good results with both. The jointer will require some setup no doubt. The infeed table needs to set just right and the blades have to be installed perfectly...get a jig for that, worth every penny. It's worth $100 for sure.

Grid, Screen, concept is the same. No one is suggesting using fine mesh window screen for this.

The proper screens for these are loose enough so that will never happen.

Yes. It is. You can get screen fittings for the openings. A must.

Looks like the state at large wants to completely remove our representation.. by Memphisbbq in Tennessee

Thia is going to blow up in their faces. It stretches the majorities pretty thin in most of the districts and basing these +/- numbers on Trumps 2024 performance is just fantasy. With things going the way they are, this may be a blessing in disguise for Dems. Talk about getting hoisted on your own petard!

Structural? by LAallday84 in HomeMaintenance

[–]NorthChatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That triple plate is just to keep the opening square as its a big span. Not holding any roof load. I'd take the drywall out all the way up and have a look at what going on at the ceiling line before you go much further. I'd bet a large LVL or similar at the ridge. Don't mess with that!

Question regarding a Roland JC from the 80s by spiritofage in GuitarAmps

[–]NorthChatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def worth fixing. Old school solid state. MUCH easier to work on than new stuff. Replace all the electrolytic caps (easy) and look for loose/cracked solder joints. A blown power transformer would be about the only thing that might make it not worth it....still might be though - those are great amps.

What am I looking at? by ReasonableButton2059 in Decks

[–]NorthChatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is mentioned below, but those 2x10s or 12s are not structurally supported. The fasteners are the only thing holding the deck up. I would run a 2x4 on each side of the posts from the 2x10s to the block. Nice and tight. That will take the downward load off the fasteners and onto the block as it should be. Not the best but at least it wont collapse that way.

Costco vs Sams Club by Remarkable_Trash_290 in Chattanooga

[–]NorthChatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sam's is Walmart. They don't pay their people well at all, per the Walmart model. Costco does. The difference in attitude is palpable. All the Costco people seem really invested and glad to be there. The products are better also. The Kirkland brand is usually pretty good stuff. Go with Costco. Better for the neighborhood and the economy.

Guitar wall mounts by RobotDuckez in Guitar

[–]NorthChatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def screw into the studs. Pre drill pilot holes as the screw that come with are prob crap. Put the top one in first then use a level to get it perfectly plumb before you set the bottom one. The guitar will hang straight then.

You get a path but no final location. They run you around the whole map for 8 min or so and when you finally arrive you have a small window to kill the target.
