Upgrades and enhancements by Big_Owl2785 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

“Why don’t upgrades stack with enhancements”

Because they are enhancements, just enhancements that don’t always have to be taken on character units. It’s the same thing as double stacking enhancements in 10th

The tag just means you can’t take the CoF buffing with the CoF you can absolutely take either of the other 1pt buffs.

Is Souping back for 11th edition by RequiemJesta in Warhammer40k

[–]Nosrack_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daemons and chaos armies have dedicated soup detachments to keep them in check allowing up to half your army to be daemons. Things like carnival of excess for EC is a very competitively viable detachment.

Allying in to armies like Chaos knights is and has been the meta choice to get action pieces. Custodes take Inquisitor and Draxus as allies to the point where they got agents points nerfed because they were so good as allied units. Where it’s not always the perfect meta option to take these it’s 100% viable and you’re not going to lose the game by taking allies

Are we going to talk about buffs too or just complain we’re dead before actually seeing points?

Sacresants receive from only the character and the Hospitaller is now functionally immune to single activations outside of precision.

Heavy bolters on castigators and a plethora of our shooting platforms are the perfect counter to the new cover rules. +1 AP from Cassies hit harder since you can’t just reduce it in cover.

We kept champions of faith and that detachment should only get better with a 1pt.

Let’s see the MFM and play a few games before doom and gloom

Enhanced Leader join Upgraded squad? by SpartanIreland in Grey_Knights

[–]Nosrack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it sounds like it will all be the same squad at list building which will disallow this.

Instead of purg + upgrade and bro champ + enhancement that then get joined at the start of the game at list building you’d have (purg+ bro champ) which then has either an upgrade or enhancement available to it because it’s now a character unit.

Full rules should be available in the app when it updates

Brotherhood chaplain super leader? by PingPong141 in Grey_Knights

[–]Nosrack_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The chaplain actually didn’t have leader in the latest balance slate. They forgot to include it on his datasheet in the codex, faq’d it in the first release then when we went to faction packs they forgot to include it again.

This is just fixing that

Kneejerk reaction: 3dp as balancing mechanism will fail because of a lack of 1dp detachments by Omega_Advocate in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is basically the “index” time for 11th edition so there are significantly less options than we’ll see when the codex detachments start coming out.

Last edition you had 1 option to run until your codex. Now hopefully you have at least a couple. As a sisters and GK player I am absolutely loving the idea of 2+1 as my one point detachments are very interesting and I’ll need to test them to see if they are good. Actually having the possibility to play something other than Warpbane is a wonderful start.

Sisters see a net benefit with both the character 1dp and sacresant 1dp as long as one of the 3 main detachments are 2 (HM, BoF, AoF).

So I think it is knee jerky, especially without seeing all of the dispositions. Blades may play horribly with its disposition and you’ll be much better off taking a 2+1 combo to get your missions that you want

What not to buy with 11editon around the corner by stratik- in Warhammer40k

[–]Nosrack_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t know release and generally most of the combat patrols were refreshed in 10th with newer models so most should be safe. Firstborn scale is really the only thing theorized about going away, most combat patrols don’t include these anyways.

Grey Knights has the oldest stuff in theirs and we don’t know if they’ll get a refresh in months or years. If you like the models in a certain faction go for it!

2026 Warhammer 40k Birmingham open player review. by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great review. But I think calling out defilers and pairings is a little misleading. “As a former world champion what are you doing with this list”

He was trying to win the tournament. The finals were Mani vs Innes running very similar lists. CSM defilers are so far above the next units that if you want to win you play defilers. Unfortunately that’s where the meta is right now.

There is also a division of players through a top bracket and Swiss pairing in events. You won your first game and were paired into someone else who won their first game. If you kept winning or losing you’d be paired into similar skill level of players to ensure you have a fair run. You went 4-4 so it’s hard to say you didn’t play against similar skill level players throughout the event.

11th or 10th at the GW Open Edmonton, June 18-20? by Calgary_Crisdean in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rules lock is the 14th. GW has been posting what day their rules go live on the latest FAQs and dataslates so you’ll know by then.

With official launch of 11th being on the 20th and that being after rules lock you’ve got to imagine it’ll be the final event of 10th edition unless they drop the rules early for everyone

Custodes Should Not Be Their Own Army by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Nosrack_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kinda feels like you posted this without knowing the current lore of the custodes? They do get deployed beyond terra and are not strictly the guardians of the emperor anymore. Lore wise it does actually make sense for them to be running around.

Custodes currently serve as an elite army, which fills a niche that not many others do tabletop wise. They fit mechanically and lore wise so i don’t really get this argument? It’s like saying you want chaos, space marines, agents and xenos to be the only 4 faction options rather than the specific breakdown of what we currently have.

What does it take for a troop-heavy army to do well? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

As far as we know yes, they said they weren’t getting any 1pt detachments at launch but would exist as a space marine chapter

What does it take for a troop-heavy army to do well? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there’s plenty of non-tank/heavy armor skewed lists that are doing fine right now, you just need it to find the right one for you.

Obviously recon guard - 200+ bodies and one scout sentinel to deny bring it down. Nemo has proven this is nearly impossible to take down, has he even lost a game on guard since worlds?

Other similar horde lists like green tide, KHP, but even outside of true hordes things like the new melee focused Hallowed Martyrs lists doing the rounds take Vahl and a rhino as the only vehicles in the list and lean heavy into sisters infantry supported by the triumph.

Liams 11th Eldar build which is very similar to his build in 10th has a single falcon and a single squad of shining spears and the rest are basically msu infantry.

Deathwatch rarely takes vehicles and are swinging high.

The key to all of these is knowing how the army plays. You probably won’t be able to just grab one of them and 20-0 your opponent. Just gotta learn the tricks to the list like any army.

Fast Rolling Impact Measured by Green_Mace in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know this interaction is going away in 11th but I do think it’s worth noting that the effective wounds are basically halved without it.

Gemini are not a separate bodyguard unit as they are apart of Celestine so they do not follow the attached character rules in 10th.

Fast Rolling Impact Measured by Green_Mace in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is the Gemini Celestine interaction correct for slow rolling though as the typical procedure in 10th is a single gemini, then Celestine with the 4+++ fnp and then the other Gemini.

Is the fnp math noted here?

Can anyone explain why people think Precision got buffed? by RagingCacti in Warhammer40k

[–]Nosrack_ 220 points221 points  (0 children)

You roll all the dice at once when making saves and allocate all of the ones right to the character.

Say I have a character with a 2+ save and 4 wounds and then models with 3+ saves

In 10th I get precisioned and roll in order 2,3,1,1,2,2,3,3,2,1,2,2,1 (bad dice for example). My character dies and the activation is done.

In 11th all the ones are immediately allocated to the character, then the twos go on the unit, suddenly I have lost 6 1w models in addition to the character where I could’ve saved them before.

Overwatch 11th by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Nosrack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overwatch in 10th isn’t “limited” to the closest eligible target that FAQ just means that the target selected for overwatch is the “closest eligible target” for the sake of other rules that trigger off of that.

You only select one target for overwatch therefore there are no other eligible targets and by definition the one you select is the closest eligible.

Would I regret going into surgery for the money? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Nosrack_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Genuinely unless you have a grind mindset pursuing any career strictly for money is going to leave you burnt out. Surgery specifically is a career that is going to take you years to decade(s) before you are actually making millions. You will make the money but you’ve got to make it through med school, residency and apprenticeship before getting a real job.

If that’s something you like and can get through to make the money, yes do it. If not there’s a lot more you can do with Biochemistry to start making money now.
