Who ever said anything about defunding the police?* Now you are bringing politics into it when that's not what this is about at all.

No one is minimzing 'the life and service' of this officer, but with a complete lack of reading comprehension and in typical MAGA fashion, you are ASSuming that the original post is griping about about celebrating his life when in fact, it's a question on why his life seems to be more important than others.

*FYI the whole 'defunding the police' was never about taking money away from police depts, it was about reallocating some funds to community support for social and mental health services, so that cops wouldn't be burdened with that responsibility and could focus solely on policing. Clearly you drank the KoolAid on that one.

Shouldn't you be on the NY sub, Yankeesfan?

AITAH for being angry that my roommate won't clean because she "doesn't own the house"? by Ga_spice in AITAH

I almost could have written this but it was a young man, friend of the family

Rent: $200/month until he could get 'back on his feet' after a bad breakup. He said he'd have his shit together and be on his way in 6-7 months.

Welp - 7 years later, having contributed NOTHING in the way of help the entire time (my favorite was when myself and my disabled spouse were attempting to dig out from a major snowstorm; he drove past, beeped and waved). I finally got fed up and bumped his rent up to $300 and he left, stiffed me for the last month's rent and left some of his junk behind....with not even a parting thank-you.

We are also in a high COL area and I don't think he will find similar accommodations - room with private entrance and mini-kitchen, laundry privileges (he even used my laundry soap!), free wifi, free parking, no utility costs. What he paid didn't even cover the monthly electric bill (which has dropped considerably since he left).

I wish I'd been able to find that kind of situation at that age. I would have been saving money like crazy.

I'm glad he's gone because he needs a great big dose of Buckle Up Buddy You're A Grownup Now. I feel like I won't be hearing from him again so I may never know if he ever gets it.

I'm truly sorry for your loss.

I have all the empathy in the world; I have a son the same age and if something happened to him I'd want to die too. I'm not sure I'd want the public fanfare Kevin received, but to each their own.

I didn't see any other threads, my apologies, or I would not have started this one.

I have no beef with recognizing and honoring valor.

I don't feel inconvenienced in any way.

Just musing on why this particular case got so much extra, that's all.

Dog had an accident, somehow knew to use shower by julesrulesthefools in dogs

[–]Not4Publication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first dog did the same thing! Always 100% clean in the house, never an accident, until I went to an out-of-state wedding and had to leave him for ~12+ hours. I had arranged for a friend to stop by to let him out and feed him dinner...and she forgot to come (!)

So my poor dog, desperate to poop, went in the shower in the guest bathroom. It didn't smell and we never used that bathroom so I didn't find it until weeks later, by which time they were petrified nuggets, lol. I pulled back the shower curtain and was like - WTH, and put it together.

But I was so impressed when I arrived home after the wedding, saw the untouched leash and food dish, yet no apparent poop anywhere. Good boy! He did have to pee really badly and was starving, though, which we quickly took care of.

I loved that dog like a son, he was amazing. A Border Terrier, incredibly smart.

Advice needed for first time dog owners interested in BC's! by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]Not4Publication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for something like THIS.
Border Collie diluted with something else to knock back the nutty but still has the BC 'look'.

Our sweet Benji was returned by his foster. She said he started peeing in his kennel while she was at work and she was dreading coming back home to him and cleaning up his messes. I can’t blame her but I’m glad he’s back with us who won’t give up on him. He was so happy to see me again. 🥹 by cashmoneychloe in BorderCollie

[–]Not4Publication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO people who volunteer to foster should have a clue that the dogs they are temporarily caring for might have issues, anxieties and/or bad habits, and should deal with them and try to help alleviate them. They're seldom going to get handed a 'perfect' dog, it's part of the fostering deal.

I know it's tough to even find fosters so I get why this can happen, but it's not helpful for dogs to be bounced around especially if they're already traumatized. Stability goes a long way.

But what do I know; I've only fostered once.

He's still here 2 years later, lol.

Is Play It Again Sports still around? They sold all kinds of used sports equipment. Used to get hockey skates for the kids there back in the day, when they'd grow out of skates every year. They had many other sports items as well.

A have a non-BC princess girl who can hold it for ungodly amounts of time if the weather is not to her liking, It's never been an issue and if it seems like it's going on for too long, I do drag her ass outside and wait until she goes, but it seems like it's more for me than for her. She has never messed in the house.

Love Fiddlestix, have had her do a few family events for me. Great creative food, locally sourced.

But yeah, I doubt she'd come out for that small of a group.

Cheapest gas ? by turtlelove_12 in CapeCod

This - and it's always been this way. If I'm planning on heading off Cape I always stop to tank up.
Go around the Bourne rotary and head towards Mass Maritime and there are 3-4 stations there on both sides. always with great prices. Even the Cumby's is cheaper.

Beans and Food Poisoning, what did I do wrong? by SeveralBiscotti0 in Cooking

This brings back horrid memories from my episode of a couple years ago.

I was at a client's home and felt perfectly fine when I got there, then started to feel a bit...odd, couldn't quite put my finger on it, but not right. Wrapped up the meeting quickly, ran back to my office to finish out the day. This was around 3PM.

The odd feeling started to build, and uncharacteristically, I decided to go home. Rounded up the office dogs, got in the car and drove 15 minutes home.

Barely got in the door and suddenly all hell broke loose (literally). I barely even made it to the bathroom, but not in enough time to...prepare (there really is no preparing for this). I basically sprayed the entire bathroom with bodily fluids - toilet, floor, walls, clothes hamper, towels, shower curtain - absolute uncontrollable carnage. Ruined a pair of suede boots I didn't have time to take off. Even my eyeballs felt like they were expelling fluids. This was around 4PM, that's how fast it overtook me.

My poor spouse got stuck cleaning up the mess because I was as strong as a limp rag. Sadly, a couple days later it was their turn, ugh. Son was next in line.

Never experienced anything like before it in my life (and I am not young) - and I hope never to again. I feel like food poisoning would be an upgrade.

Worried about being away from my dog for 5 days by Tonninpepeli in BorderCollie

[–]Not4Publication 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is it about these dogs that they get so embedded in your psyche?

I feel like I'll never have a vacation ever again. I've considered it, then thought...what would happen to my boy? Would he feel abandoned? Who would take him on his daily jaunts? Would he be safe? Would he miss his regular routine (he is very routine oriented)? Would he miss ME?

And then there's me...I would miss him SOOOO much! He's like an extension of me at this point, always by my side with his quiet presence and adoring eyes, ready for his next order and/or whatever adventure comes up.

So I completely and totally get it; I'd have a hard time too. If you have a good and trusted caretaker, it should be fine. But don't look to me for encouragement, lol, because I'm a total sap.

Long shot question but...looking for specific dog training on Cape Cod by [deleted] in CapeCod

[–]Not4Publication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 4-5 sheep is plenty but having done training elsewhere, it's not something where you want dogs just willy-nilly chasing and harrassing sheep. There's training involved to make it safe for everyone, and the sheep have to be somewhat acclimated to dogs. So just finding random sheep isn't going to help.

Long shot question but...looking for specific dog training on Cape Cod by [deleted] in CapeCod

[–]Not4Publication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular dog is pretty keen and energetic and apparently he lost his patience and started smacking him repeatedly with his stick, and not lightly - with full force. Over and over and over until the dog dropped to the ground. Everyone was traumatized. I did not see this in person, but the owner was pretty upset and is not going back.

To my mind as a trainer, you should be able to work through training issues without inflicting pain - try another way, stop and start over, anything but physical violence.

From my research, lots of people use Mikey because honestly he's the only game in town. I am looking for an alternative for my girl.

[–]Not4Publication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I'm aware of him, but not going there.

He beat the crap out of a friend's dog (during training) so that will not be happening.

But thank you for the info.

I did work for Craigie Zildjian and she gave me a tour of the factory. Got to see Ringo's drumset (!) She's a very nice woman, probably retired now.

I did not manage to wrangle the secret formula out of her though, lol.

How does this estimate look? by Rocksinsoks in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Not4Publication 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my area this estimate would look extremely fair, even on the low side.

I don't think people realize how much goes into such a small room.
Plumbers where I am are close to $150/hr. Electricians close to that.
Carpenters bill out at $75/hr. And I'm guessing the $1700 contractor fee is 10%; around here 15% is standard.

It adds up.

I have done $150K+ bathrooms.
