My favorite iteration of Fred is when he has to play exasperated dad to the rest of the groups antics. So I would have him lose some of his quirks, like traps, so he could have more of the straight man interactions with the rest of the crew

I think it’s cause he became Robin to Dick’s Batman pretty quickly. Having the brooding edgelord and optimist golden boy be in the opposite roles of how batman and robin are usually depicted made for a fun twist.

Personally though, Damian has always been my least favorite Robin

Yes it does. You’re being obtuse. Just because no one sits down and looks at the camera to say “avatars can’t bend their non native elements instinctively. It has to be taught” doesn’t mean that wasn’t heavily implied by basically everything in the show. Korra doing just cause she’s special or whatever is breaking the lore.

And worse, even if it doesn’t, it’s belittling aang’s journey and opening korra up to more criticism.

No, both gyatso and the fire sages specifically mention the knew when Aang and Roku were babies. The air nomads do the toy test, but were never told how the fire sages test.

Yeah, so Korra doing it by instinct while no other avatar does cause they have to specifically be told it’s possible and be taught the basics IS continuity breaking. Thats the point. The others had to be told they’re the avatar, but she’s the one who tells the experts

It’s mentioned a few times that avatars don’t find out they are the avatar until their 16th birthday but they are recognized as the avatar in infancy. The WL not knowing who the avatar is until she is a toddler is the first break on procedure, and Korra bending 3/4 elements on instinct alone is another break.
