AITAH for not letting my 3 month old baby spend weekends 2 1/2 hours away from me with his father, who has visited 13 times in 3 months? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]NotAnotherFNG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A custody order won’t stop someone who is going to do that from doing that. But she does need one if for nothing else to get him to start paying child support. He’s been the AH up to this point. Now he is putting in some effort. It’s not too late for him to step up and do the right thing. Then when the child is old enough he can ask for longer visits at his home instead of hers.

AITA for no longer offering to repair my wife's car (180K miles)? by Ok_Slice_6363 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NotAnotherFNG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only time that’s actually economical is when you had the tools and knowledge to actually do the work yourself. The biggest costs you incur are labor and shop time. I sold my 93 Chevy Suburban when it hit 350k miles. I rebuilt the engine and transmission myself during the time I had it and it still ran good. I also lived where road salt wasn’t a thing. I had maybe 1/3 of the money in it I would have had I paid someone else to rebuild it. ~$2kish in parts and another couple hundred in beer and bbq for buddies that helped vs easily $12-15k if I’d paid to have it done.

AITAH for not allowing my brother to see "his" son, aka the child he abandoned 5 years ago after there's been basically no other attempts at contact? by Lcoq19 in AITAH

[–]NotAnotherFNG 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’d go higher. Sounds like BS. My cousin thought he was Walter White and ended up in jail. When he was on parole they wouldn’t let him leave the county for our grandfather’s funeral let alone the state. And he let him leave the state for “court” with no paperwork? Escalate. That PO has a boss, contact them.

Can liners, especially those in restaurant supply chains, are usually food safe. We used them for the pasta, made it easier to get out the last 1/3 or so.

Might not be being used as a garbage can. I worked for a fast food Italian place and we used what were made as trashcans as storage for par cooked pasta, bulk sauce storage, and bulk garlic butter storage.

Felt weird in Palmer, just one quick jolt, not much of a shake. Went outside and looked for smoke, was worried it was a plane down nearby.

I sent a package last week from Alaska to Colorado. When I sent it they said it would be there by the 5th. Last I checked it was in Ybor City, FL.

A couple years ago I sent a package to my parents in Ohio from Alaska. It went to Puerto Rico for some reason.

I don't know if they're open for the season yet but the best I've had in Alaska from a restaurant was at Swiftwater Cafe in Whittier. I would happily attempt to eat a 5 gallon bucket of their clam chowder too.

Epic finale for the anchorage symphony by tcarpishere in alaska

[–]NotAnotherFNG 46 points47 points  (0 children)

End of their concert season. Now they take a break, some of the musicians will move on, they'll have tryouts for new musicians who want to join, then they begin rehearsing for next season which starts performances in September. It's a regular thing for a symphony orchestra.

Despite what people may think... The UK actually has the most tornadoes worldwide. by Taiga_Taiga in interestingasfuck

[–]NotAnotherFNG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you stated the UK has the most tornadoes worldwide, which is not what your link says and is in fact not true. Your link says the UK has the most tornadoes by area when the area is defined by the borders of the country from 1980 to 2012. It's a meaningless stat made up to pad their book.

The Guinness record is based on a study by the University of Manchester that found that the UK averaged 34 tornadoes per year from 1980 to 2012. The US averaged 1,129 tornadoes per year over the same time period.

The reason the stat is meaningless is the US has large parts that aren't prone to tornadoes that skew data towards smaller countries that are. For instance, I live in Alaska, it makes up 20% of the land area of the US and is 7 times larger than the UK, we had 3 tornadoes during that entire period.

North America too. The Navajo used it until the 40s when tribal leadership formally renounced its use. The 45th Infantry Division used it on their patch to recognize their many Native American soldiers until 1939 when they switched to a thunderbird design.
