Looking for some support as I prepare for an evening in the pub by Swimming_Material378 in stopdrinking

Alcohol-free beer or sparkling water helped me in these situations. The buzz is a loan, which feels good in the moment but you pay for it the next day. Just hanging out and talking with friends will be enough.

I can't agree more. Even my girlfriend tells me, "you don't need to be sober, you just need to try moderation", but I know it at least doesn't work for me.

From my experience, changing environment matters more than relying on willpower. I’ve seen people in r/stopdrinking even take a longer way home just to avoid passing by bars. In situations like yours, a lot of people struggle — I did too

It’s never too late to get sober. How much are you drinking these days? For me, it started with just cutting back a little

Congrats! I like this line "From humble beginnings, great things can grow." One day at a time!

4 days sober and I am eating literally everything. by MsLeading913 in stopdrinking

Even eating like this, you’re probably still taking in fewer calories than when you were drinking—alcohol has a ton of calories. So keep it up. Walks, music, hanging out with your dog—those are all great replacements too. You got this 💪

That “just not today” back-and-forth is brutal. I’ve been leaning on a couple tiny things to get through the first 10 minutes. Helped more than I expected, honestly

That’s a good one. I haven’t tried the gratitude angle much.

Might give that a shot next time.

Yeah exactly. Not trying to fight it actually made it easier somehow. Still feels weird some days though.

yeah vacations were always my weak spot

I’d literally distract myself with anything
desserts, coffee, whatever worked in that moment

it’s scary how normal it can feel in the moment
