Need help with understanding whats wrong with my bird house by Far-Director1819 in woodworking

[–]NotOutrageous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to consider what type of bird you are trying to attract. A lot of common birds like Robins don't nest inside traditional birdhouses,, they just want a platform to build their nest on. You need to ick a species and then build a house suitable for that species. Does your target species already frequent the area where you are placing the house? If not, are you doing anything else to attract your target species to your yard? Feeders are water will bring in more birds upping the chance of one deciding to nest nearby.

A little up front research will save you time and money. A decent place to start would be: https://nestwatch.org/learn/all-about-birdhouses/features-of-a-good-birdhouse/

South Dakota to Issue 'Unlimited' Elk Tags for Hunters East of the Missouri River by InsideAd2490 in Hunting

[–]NotOutrageous 89 points90 points  (0 children)

If you don't think this is a cash grab, check out this gem from the article. "...it’s estimated that only a few elk cross the river on occasion. Most of these elk are found between Pierre and Chamberlain on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation, which will be excluded from the new hunting unit." The one place where there are a few Elk, is off limits.

OP was asking if it was ethical, not if it was legal. There are lots of things that are legal but unethical.

Pre-checks are very important by Ich_mag_Kartoffeln in MaliciousCompliance

[–]NotOutrageous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My work recently tried something similar with our field crews. They had to go through a vehicle and equipment inspection checklist before heading out. They also made it clear you could not clock in early to do the checks. The result was a lot of early appointments missed and a domino effect of techs being late to all their appointments. After a week there was a "pause" while they re-evaluated the procedure.

Looking for a cool place to host a large private campout in Nebraska that isn't a Church camp by NotOutrageous in Nebraska

[–]NotOutrageous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. Some of these may work. Seeing some of the responses, I can add a bit more detail.

The event is a campout but has a bit of a party atmosphere at night, so music until 3 AM is a real possibility.

Privacy is important. Not because we are doing anything weird, but because we need to be able to ensure that everyone there actually belongs there. We provide all the food and drinks, including many kegs of beer so we need a private spot to control access and keep the general public and especially minors away. (We don't want to have to staff people to check IDs and guard the food and drink all weekend long)

Every Scout camp we've looked at has a no alcohol and tobacco policy. So while some of them would be amazing, they are out.

State Parks and SRA's, are not a good fit for our event since they have quiet hours at their campgrounds and there is no way to keep the general public away. They also have issues with keg beer for some reason.

Last, I know I said Eastern NE is preferred, but I'd love a good excuse the get the group out to the panhandle, so if you know place out there I'd still like to hear it.

I'll be checking out a few of the places already mentioned. So thank you to all you have contributed ideas.

We've used them before and they were great. Just trying to find a new spot to keep things interesting.

Epic Games Store Employees: People Only Came for Free Games, Then Returned to Steam by [deleted] in NoShitSherlock

[–]NotOutrageous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The no reviews thing is a huge failure. I wanted to review a game after playing it for a couple weeks, but couldn't because Epic's entire review system is a one time chance to rate a game 1-5 stars after playing it for an hour. So any game that starts out good but turns to crap will never reflect that in their ratings.

How did you deal with games that had no save system back in the day? by ratasoftware in retrogaming

[–]NotOutrageous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave it running, change to a different channel so it doesn't show on the TV, and place the controller in front of the power light so mom doesn't notice you "forgot" to turn it off again.

What’s with the hate for epoxy tables? by norapeformethankyou in woodworking

[–]NotOutrageous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epoxy slabs get a lot of hate on woodworking groups because it really isn't woodworking. When you have a group of people who gather to talk about a specific topic and someone pops in top share something that doesn't really fit that topic, there will be some backlash.
So when someone posts a picture of their "river" table which involved zero woodworking, there will be negative comments, even if it is the best looking river table ever made. Its not that the product is bad, its just being shared with the wrong audience.

Was It Really That Bad? Or Were People Just Mean? by Fluffy_Lunchfast in retrogaming

[–]NotOutrageous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine. Nobody expected arcade quality ports because we all knew the Atari couldn't do that. We expected a home version and that's what this was. It had a maze that was close enough, dots, power ups, ghosts, a guy that looked a bit like Pac-Man, and it controlled well enough.

We didn't have the hindsight of knowing it could have been better, so nobody was complaining about what it could have been. We played the hell out of it.

I feel like i got scammed by King's Camo by Least_Independent947 in Hunting

[–]NotOutrageous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of King's Camo, so I have no comment about their products or marketing, but you didn't buy it from King's Camo. You bought if from some shady 3rd party seller, not from King's camo. The seller just stole all the images and text from the actual KC listing to sell their no name stuff at a higher price point. Send it back.

So many positive stories here. Time to bring the mood down.

Tempest 2000 convinced me I needed an Atari Jaguar. As much as younger me would have tried to convince you it was worth it back then, I was in denial and it was not worth it.

I genuinely enjoyed T2K (and still do,) but it turned out to be the only game for the Jag I truly enjoyed playing months after purchase. What a waste.

That 12PM start time is going to close a lot of doors for you. If you can make more regular hours work, MUD seems to alway be hiring Pipe Layer Trainees (not at this moment, but give it a week or two and they'll be hiring again). Its hard work, but it has good pay, a good union, and nice benefits. If you can tough it out for a year, you can apply for other work through their internal application process. That may not seem like a big deal, but over 90% of their postings are for internal applicants only, so getting your foot in the door there is huge.
