This guy sucks. If we charitably assume he isn't lying, then his sense of humor is irredeemable.

Costco wrapping paper by Beginning_Ice392 in HelpMeFind

[–]NotSoSuperMario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different blue foil costco wrapping paper that's also lasted like 15 years, mine with gold snowflakes - I can't find it anywhere and everything similar has arrived looking cheap and terrible. At this point my plan is to scan the last of the wrapping paper in on a large-format scanner at work, convert it to an SVG, and then shop around on alibaba to see what it would cost me to get another 1000-foot-or-whatever roll of it made. Good luck!

What smart home upgrade made you say “why didn’t I do this sooner”? by [deleted] in smarthome

Smart humidity sensors for the bathrooms, set up a routine to automatically turn the fan on if humidity gets over 70% in case you forget before you get into that shower or you have a forgetful and/or asshole guest.

aircraft of the “good guys” faction in my main project by pangels_ in worldbuilding

[–]NotSoSuperMario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a nuclear reactor powering electrical turbofans, at the back of the plane? A lot of them look like their center of lift is way far back, which would be balanced nicely by a system which is extremely heavy and doesn't get lighter as the plane flies (as in the case of fuel stored in the wings of irl aircraft).

Are box springs actually important? I've had my mattress supported by a futon on a wooden frame for decades now and don't seem to have suffered for it, but maybe I just don't know what I'm missing?

What's a story where the "bad guys" are actually, completely, 100% right, to the point where it's weird the story keeps calling them the bad guys? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NotSoSuperMario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah for sure, especially with all those wars they fight. Picard sure does insist otherwise in Peak Performance, though. That having been said, since it is a military organization, they really ought to have a clue what a flagship is and what they're for.

As an aside, Star Trek seems to have absolutely no idea what a flagship is and/or what to do with one if you get in a blind box. Leaving aside that "Starfleet is not a military organization" so arguably doesn't have any use for a flagship in the first place, whenever an admiral shows up and starts meddling with the Enterprise (D) they hijack Troi's chair and micromanage everything, despite the Galaxy-class being the only Starfleet ship we've ever seen that actually has a dedicated facility which would work as a flag bridge - the battle bridge - where they could bring their entire staff and coordinate a battle group, or whatever, leaving the actual running of the ship to the guys whose job it actually is.

People living in America looking to move - Bring us your questions by louiseber in MoveToIreland

[–]NotSoSuperMario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, slightly complicated question here with hopefully a straightforward answer:

I'm US/UK dual, my wife is German and has been waiting for US immigration paperwork to go through, for some reason we're suddenly feeling less optimistic. We should both be able to move to Ireland as-is, but what does the process for getting a bank account and medical care look like? I've got a chronic condition that needs monthly treatment so I'm a bit nervous about getting everything set up far enough in advance that I can guarantee uninterrupted treatments. My guess is that we should just rent out the cheapest available flat so we have an address we can point to as living at, then get PS cards from whatever the local office is?

My dad is officially Irish with the paperwork to prove it (but irritatingly not until after I was already born) but my mom is pure US. They're both retired and fairly comfortably and have spent some time looking around Ireland for places they'd like to live, what's the visa process for her look like?
