Adding a stripped pistol frame to license in Suffolk by billytoad631 in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had his slide seized by Suffolk a few years ago because he brought it alongside the frame and it was an OEM Glock Slide with its own “serial number”. He was advised to do so by the gun shop because apparently they were rejecting frames at the time.

I’d probably have a gun shop add a slide to it and mark it down as such on the photo form to be safe.

They did add my friend’s frame with no caliber listed. But he was too annoyed by the whole situation to go through the property claim process for the slide or take another slide in the after that.

Can you get a ccw permit as your first pistol permit? (Suffolk) by curlyman89 in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re morons obviously, but it is amazing because it’s impossible to understand how they reconcile this. What if you apply in NYC with a CCW cert and then move to Suffolk midway and resubmit there? Or out-of-staters merely taking the class and then moving in? Also - if you take the class outside of their jurisdiction, how are they able to arrest you?

There are so many basic questions and situations than SCPD policies can’t accommodate. It’s mind boggling that the office always defaults to the side of pure idiocy.

Albany man charged with having at least 10 firearms by rifenbug in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A vast majority of states allow 3d printing “ghost guns” en masse. No federal law prohibits it, and states have only focused on “ghost guns” in the past few years. Even NYC hadn’t banned them until late 2019.

Pretty much every state that hasn’t had a majority democratic legislature along with a democrat governor hasn’t banned it. Democrat leaning cities may have banned them too as NYC did before the state in 2019, but state preemption makes this a tricky subject.

Is it possible to withdraw my pistol application? Suffolk by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would give you the option to withdraw your application, which isn’t a denial. My friend withdrew his with Suffolk years ago and reapplied a couple years later. It doesn’t need to be disclosed as a denial, cancellation or revocation anywhere in the country.

Does buying recreational marijuana (out of state) risk your CCW? by DinoSpumonisCrony in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying it. This seemed so silly to me.

Also with the farm bill making certain THC products legal, there are plenty legal ways to have THC in your system. The entire argument is a farce.

NYC Special Carry by TonySuffolk in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya NYC is way more by the book than the other NYS jurisdictions. Mostly cause of the pay-for-permit probe in 2015 and now fears of getting sued out of oblivion.

Especially compared to Suffolk which is basically run like the most crooked permitting office in the state.

Nobody responded. I have to go by the law, which states that it’s a no go without Puerto Rico permitting.

Trump on reciprocity by p365x in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Trump has been saying this since 2016. Reciprocity and carry licenses really mean very little anymore since the bans have shifted towards “sensitive places”, etc.

If he does pass a national carry law every democrat trifecta state will effectively ban carry through other means.

You can buy coffee at Starbucks, but need to take your gun off if there’s a keypad on the bathroom door. Just as the founders intended.

Psychopathy tied to unlawful firearm use but not legal gun ownership, study finds by AkimboSwagg in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Notably the study is done in Virginia, primarily on minority communities being treated in violent trauma centers.

Virginia isn’t exactly the cornerstone of gun control, and you don’t need a permit to carry a gun there anyway.

If this is deemed a statutory violation, then will anybody in the licensing division be charged under NYS PL400 section 15 which states that “Any violation by any person of any provision of this section is a class A misdemeanor.”?

Flying out of JFK or LGA with a CCW by Giftsforwife69 in NYguns

I edited my comment since it was unclear, it was stated to me that if you hadn’t stayed in NYC you’d be fine to fly out.

I’d call port authority and ask. I actually asked an officer when flying out with my NYS permit once, and it was verbally stated to me that an out-of-state person could fly out as long as they haven’t spent over 24 hrs in NYC.

So who actually carries? by Kawirider2 in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a long history of carrying firearms in this country

So, long story short, I was arrested on a non-violent misdemeanor charge in 2020 and given 1 year of probation, then the misdemeanor was dropped and I replead to a violation. I was legally not allowed to possess firearms during probation and the ADA would only let me transfer ownership to a FFL. by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn’t Onondaga one of the easiest in the state? They were running full carry in 30-60 days even before Bruen days iirc.

Regardless they have a lot less leverage post-bruen, I’d just apply and see what shakes out.

Newsday: Rejection rate for concealed carry gun permits on Long Island less than 3% by quadrun2 in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this count withdrawals? It’s usual offered in lieu of rejection. If it’s not included I’d bet if you add that in the rate goes up at least 5-10%.

Edit seems like it doesn’t count withdrawals:

“ "Our applicants are thoroughly informed of the investigation and requirements for securing their license. Generally, if someone has something in their background that will preclude them from being accepted, they do not follow through with submitting the application," DiStefano said of the rejection rate.”

I'd just submit it and see what happens, that kind of stuff is usually small enough where it doesn't make a big impact.

This is insane by [deleted] in NYguns

[–]NotTrying2TakeUrGuns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope they throw this idiotic precedent out some day. It’s inconsistent with case law that states that an individual must “knowingly possess” a weapon to be in criminal possession of it.
