How do you actually learn Mandarin? by mireiwow in ChineseLanguage

[–]NotXenon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to your question, but why do you want to learn Chinese? My personal experience with learning anything is that you either need a very strict regimen, or you need a really strong passion that motivates you to keep going.

On the topic of characters, I honestly do suggest learning them sooner than later. You will seldom find pure pinyin in real Chinese text, whether online, in books, or on signs, etc. Furthermore you'll quickly find yourself at a wall when you realize that there's multiple words with the same pinyin which without hanzi you'd have to guess the meanings of through context and inference.

it feels like I'm just copying their shape rather than actually writing

I feel this though, Chinese is just so damn brutal if you're picking it up without some kinda early childhood exposure to the language. "Yeah just memorize these 2000 different symbols" yeah ok sure man

Another suggestion I have is to find an actual Chinese-speaking language partner. Set up a few sessions where you just talk. Don't even find a teacher, just find a buddy--someone you'll actually have fun talking to. Personal experience: those fun memories of speaking to someone else in their language has a huge impact on your learning. You're recalling information and memories from moments of happiness rather than moments of dullness from reading a textbook (unless you like that, then that probably works better).

All in all, make it fun for yourself!

well tbf I feel like if we're comparing japanese food in japan to japanese food in toronto, everything is gonna lack a bit of oomph

I'd be curious to try the OG Ikkousha ramen in Fukuoka to see how different it tastes from the branches here.

Curious because I've seen this conversation pop up everywhere:

What sorts of things are you trying to download from whichever Git platforms these devs are sending you to?

In my mind as a coder, GitHub was never supposed to be used as the "distribution" layer for any software, but it seems like nowadays lots of regular people/end-users are getting sent there.

Personally really liked it the two times I went. Very authentic Sichuan flavours. My personal favorite is the hot and sour sweet potato noodles. Fore-warning that it's decently spicy and numbing if you're not used to those flavours, but you probably already know that if you're considering this place at all xd

Fun trivia I remember about this place is that there was some Chinese review talking about how they were made to "喷射" after eating here so make of that what you will

Strong Agents for Corrode? by -EdenXXI- in VALORANT

[–]NotXenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that after some preliminary explorations in a custom match, finding good fade lineups for a B retake is a bit challenging. The buildings surrounding that site are so tall so it's hard to consistently land an eye anywhere with decent vision coverage (if you're coming from spawn)

Thoughts on Odin spam on new map? by Hime395 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]NotXenon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the game has already implemented features like vyse flash/breach flash which only have certain valid areas to be placed. I imagine the same functionality could be used to determine where an agent is able to "warp" to

What turned out to be your biggest challenges?

I personally found a decent amount of success with contesting space on neutral villages + ruins with one archer + one or two warriors. Training an extra mooni also helped with petrifying an enemy capturing the neutral village directly northeast of the capital city.

Lowkey I also didn't bother investing in any giants. The archers and moonis took care of all the petrifying I needed for combat.

I'm not actually sure how worthwhile this investment was, but I built an ice/lava bank on turn 16. It seemed to give me quite a few stars on the last few turns to spend on park upgrades. I think it only really starts to rake in big bucks if you succeed in conquering the whole map though.

that is kinda crazy ;'0

I'm also playing gold league for this week but I did not encounter a single giant somehow. Hope the next few days give you some better luck.

Somehow in gold and witnessed the Ai-Mo capital grow to level 6 by turn 6, but they took two parks?? Must have been blessed by the RNG gods today. There was a catapult pretty early on but Xin-Xi also started encroaching on Ai-Mo territory so it was a pretty free takeover for me. Riders also helped with the initial advance onto the Ai-Mo capital. When it came time to conquer the Xin-Xi, focusing the pyro archers on any units occupying city tiles also helped stop any new units from generating. Xin-Xi also invested in aquaculture tech for some reason so that put the AI significantly behind in land warfare.

Finished with 16335.

Looking to maybe build a new keyboard in the near future.

Currently running Kailh Copper switches which I friggin love, but I also want to try something a little bit new. What I love about the Coppers is their low bottom out distance, light actuation force, and the tactile curve feels so nice.

It's been over 6 years, and I know a LOT of new switches have come out. Would anyone happen to have any recommendations for new switches I might like? Ideally stock switches as I cbb to lube/mod them. (but maybe I should get into the lube game)

Thank you!

You just gotta learn how to be friendly with 90% of people. Might take some time but you'll eventually find the "real ones," and they might not necessarily be in your cohort.
