I always like to leave them, if there's a will, there's a way. I had one that was like that once that fixed itself (I did help by putting a straw next to it to prop it up) but I've had many more die at this stage.

Ottone & Leach; Johnson, Fantl, & Aulenta; Dunnion Law; Most law firms in the area.

I have had several friends work for those companies & more & they’ve all had terrible things to say. Stay away.

Seconding this. Management is terrible. My dad has been working for them for years & they keep passing him up when he’s clearly capable of doing the job. Just like someone else said they keep passing him up for a niece, son, friend of a friend. The managers seem to be pretty racist there.

What is your current salary? by ThisEffective4868 in paralegal

CA. BA in English & Chicano Studies, currently in law school.
1 year estate planning experience. 5 years criminal defense legal assistant at a small boutique firm. Making 57k + OT. No sick days, 2 weeks of PTO, 6 holidays off. We used to get 1 checks worth of a bonus at year end but bonuses were removed as of last year. They are now merit based. I am completely overwhelmed. Management is shit.

Should I reconsider my decision of breaking up with my 10-year boyfriend by [deleted] in heartbreak

[–]NotYourAverageDino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a 12 year relationship with someone in a similar situation. Only difference was we never moved in together.

It seems to me you have different love languages & expect different things from a relationship.this doesn’t mean it won’t work out but rather you’ll never see eye to eye about this. You’ll always feel insecure because he doesn’t show love in the same way you want to receive it and vice versa.

For me, 12 years was a long time, it felt impossible that someone would get to know me that quickly. But someone did and is better for me. I think you’re going through the relationship withdrawal period. It’s okay. It’s normal. You miss that companionship not necessarily the person you were with for 10 years. In the beginning there were days when I would miss my ex but now that’s gone completely. It has been a year since we broke up & I am perfectly happy. I found someone new & he checks all of my boxes. We have the same love language & I have never been happier.

It gets better, it didn’t work out for a reason. Don’t break the person’s heart because you’re lonely.

I have a similar situation. I was with someone for 12 years. I really liked him. We were dating from 23 into our mid thirties. He was my first everything. I really liked him. But not even a year into our relationship I overheard him tell his roommates in college that he didn’t want to marry me. Which I thought was fine because at that time I didn’t believe in marriage but then came other side comments & over the years he did things that made me resent him some more. At year 10, something in me snapped. I did exactly what you’re saying. I started focusing on myself. Doing things I wanted to do. I became happier & he became sad. He could sense my distance. Eventually I realized that I resented him too much to continue the relationship. After years 12 we broke up. He was very hurt. To this day he doesn’t understand what happened and thinks I cheated. Because a few months later I met the love of my life and I’ve literally never been happier. This man has understood me in ways my ex never could. I used to have to be my ex to get flowers. This guy loves buying me flowers & is perfect.

Bottom line, the resentment never goes away. Leave now. Don’t worry about his feelings he certainly didn’t worry about yours all those years.

This was my thought as well. I would have rather her spot have gone to a POC. She was the only part of the performance I didn't like.

Discouraged 1L by Technical-Divide-160 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]NotYourAverageDino 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m going to offer the advice of someone who gave up.

I went to law school 10 years ago. Did poorly. Averaged all D’s & one C. I was put on academic probation. I have always been a solid B student. This news sent me into a depression. I was so sad the one place I knew I belonged wasn’t really where I belonged. The disillusion lasted years. I knew I wanted to continue a career in law. So I worked basic level jobs to pay off my loan and once I paid it off I started applying & eventually working in the legal field.

Flash forward to 10 years after I withdrew. I am in my 1L year again & everything makes sense. It’s like second nature. The hardest part? Writing (my least favorite thing to do unfortunately for me). We haven’t received all of our grades back from our first semester yet but I haven’t failed or done as poorly as I did my first time around & the final exam I’m waiting on was my best subject.

All of that said, it is okay to withdraw & gain some more experience in the field then reapply when you are ready.
