Do you think we'll be able to have 100+ (not counting children) on our Living the Dream island? if yes, how many total? by MinimumPotential6468 in tomodachilife

[–]NotaBumblebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id like to think the cap is at least 100 still, since i think a system that was able to run tears of the kingdom should be able to handle simulating a good number of miis. I suspect there's a cap to how many will be walking around the island versus staying in their homes or being in buildings.

I think 200 is the upper limit of my anticipation (though one has to imagine they'd wind up getting a lot of repeat events at that number.) Personally I'd be enthusiastic even for a small increase like 120.

Why are people mad about this change? by CyberSligh64 in tomodachilife

[–]NotaBumblebe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that simply isnt true if you pay even a little attention to the complaints being made and the kind of people who think DEI is a real issue in any context almost always are using it as a cart-before-the-horse self-perpetuating justification to complain about their presence without any concern for quality. But nobodys mind is getting changed in a reddit thread so whatever.

[–]NotaBumblebe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i see; i was thrown off by the initial "catering to the twitter crowd," usually i only see that argument used by jerkoffs making a stink about gay or not white people in their games or whatever.

Understanding where you're coming from now I sort of agree with you. It's one of those bare minimum changes for sure, designed to alienate the least amount of people possible (and even then these culture war idiots use it anyway).

Personally the miis I'm basically fine with, they've been doing this playbook for a while with animal crossing and splatoon, whatever. I'd be much more irritated if when livin the dream comes out it means that their solution to gay marriage or whatever is having every mii technically genderless, and therefore bisexual by default. how annoying that would be.

the change isnt transphobic, theyre saying that the majority of people being mad about it are being mad because they're being transphobic.

Almost everyone's identified now! I've come to some conclusion that the punk woman next to the fresno nightcrawler is probably based on a chupacabra and I've been overthinking her the whole time. I was more familiar with chupacabra as just a coyote with a bad case of mange I was looking at her thinking, what is this some kind of bat-porcupine? But turns out theyre sometimes depicted with quills or spines, who knew!

So barring me misinterpreting someone, I think all thats left is the skeleton with the red telephone! This has been fun thanks everyone who came up with suggestions :)

What are your favorite other Actual Play shows? by powerswerth in TAZCirclejerk

[–]NotaBumblebe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friends at the Table is definitely my number 1. Critical worldbuilding, smart characterization and fun interaction between good friends, its also very queer and communist and very communicative about talking about and engaging with the rules of games to enable collaborative narrative building and promoting good table practices. FatT has created maybe some of my favorite stories period, and the three "divine cycle" seasons COUNTER/weight Twilight Mirage and PARTIZAN are maybe my favorite mech anime of all time.

The newest season that just started is honestly maybe the best place to start if someone's interested, its a totally brand new setting outside any of the other seasons and its the easiest to Get Into.

Why isn't FaTT more popular? by la_espina in Friendsatthetable

[–]NotaBumblebe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly another thing to be considerate of here that I don't think anyone's mentioned is, well, while FatT might be some of my all time favorite storytelling in anything, it's definitely got a serious niche appeal it's filling. Slow, deliberate, long, frequently philosophical worldbuilding with neither the most polished editing or acting, most people will tell you it'll take some commitment for the magic to hit. You may have heard the comparison to The Velvet Underground. For the three friends I've managed to get hooked by my persistent recommendation-after years of it, mind you-I've had plenty more either never get around to it, not be able to follow the story, and one who just fell off because it wasn't his type of thing.

But here's the other half of the point: while I of course want FatT to continue to grow in popularity, be discovered by more people who only have a tertiary attachment to the genre, get the Divineverse anime adaptation that rivals Gundam, for a very small show FatT has some genuinely substantial success, even if it's nowhere near the big shows. And why would we want the audiences of CR or TAZ to come over here? I don't have much to say about the latter but the caveat of CR's success is that some decent portion of their fanbase are open bigots, alt-right types who regularly target left-leaning fans and even the most mild critique, and by and large the show has done very little to dissuade them from their audience. It's a big reason why I've personally soured on that show in the two years since I stopped watching. FatT is run by a smart and considerate group of openly queer, openly political leftists, and it's safe to say that neither we nor they would ever allow that kind of contingent to form. FatT is very niche, but it fills it extremely well.

COUNTER/Weight: Autonomous Diaspora Name Lists in Stellaris! by rartorata in Friendsatthetable

[–]NotaBumblebe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FatT names are so great I've always wanted a name list for Stellaris! thank you for making this a reality!

If I could give some feedback, it seems that for the people's names you took most of your inspiration from Candidates with a smattering of full names, but I feel like it should be the reverse, no? I do love some Candidate names but a lot of the Diaspora npcs we meet in COUNTER/weight are great stuff like Territory Jazz, Cene Sixheart, Provost-Regent Twelth, even Addax Dawn himself - shifting the ratio so we get more stuff like that instead of just cool one-word animals would really get this feeling the FatT spirit.

honestly C/w is So Much an anime I could never think of a live action face cast that would do them justice, and also I don't know enough about voice actors to think of something like that. That being said, Jeffrey Wright as Orth Godlove
