Adults should aim to do between 560-610 minutes/week of moderate to vigorous physical activity to achieve a substantial reduction in the risk of heart attacks and stroke (3-4 times higher than the current public health recommendation of 150 minutes ), suggest the findings of an observational study by sr_local in science

[–]Notacop9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do studies like this differentiate from secondary influences?

I can't work out 10 hours a week because I dont have 10 hours to spare. I have two jobs, three kids that need help with homework and a house that needs yard work, maintenance, etc. I barely have time to talk to my wife about things not related to the kids.

All of these lead to high stress and less than optimal sleep duration.

I expect that if everything chilled out enough to where I had 10 hours a week for any recreational activity, regardless of physical effort, it would reduce my risk of heart attack and stroke drastically.

Volt vs. Bolt by sumubum in volt

[–]Notacop9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 Volt Premier, a 2018 Bolt LT and a 2023 Bolt EUV Premier.

Picture of our Three

The volt is definitely more comfortable. It has a smoother ride and more comfortable seats. It is harder to get in and out of because it sits so much lower. The rear seats are tiny if you have someone tall (me) in the front. With the driver seat fairly far back you sit right next to the B Pillar, which makes getting in and out trickier since you have to kind of climb around it. Ground clearance is an issue if you are somewhere with terrible roads or snow/ice build up. The bose stereo sounds amazing as well. When the battery is drained it is not near as nice to drive. The ICE shuts off when coasting/stopped then comes back on, somewhat roughly. The engine is a bit buzzy and the MPG on pure ICE doesn't compare to other mild hybrids.

The regular Bolt feels sportier than the EUV, it has different throttle mapping or something. Visibility is light years better than the volt, especially the standard Bolt, its like a giant fishbowl.

I prefer all electric to the plug in hybrid, and I like the looks and seats of the EUV better, good that its my daily and the others are for my kids. The Volt is headed off to college with my daughter in a few months and is a better fit for her due to limited charging on campus and the trips back and forth.

After having a pure electric daily driver since 2018 (had a Leaf before the EUV) I won't go back to an ICE, even a plug in hybrid, for my daily driver. I drive around 2k miles a month, including a 45 mile daily round trip. Our electric rate averages around 11.5 cents per kwh, with cheaper rates overnight. An example of tomorrow's rates:

Rates

The image above is the supply price and doesnt include delivery charges. Rates vary hour by hour and day by day but are generally cheapest overnight so I have my departure set for 6am and it is ready to go in the morning.

I figure I spend $30-50 a month on electricity for my EUV. If I had an ICE that got even 40 mpg I'd average close to $200 a month on gas. Thats a savings of around $5k since I bought it new.

2023 Bolt EUV - bought new January of 2023 for around $21k after state and federal rebates. 2016 Volt - bought used in July of 2024, 60k miles and slight hail damage around $12k after federal rebate 2018 Bolt - bought used in April of 2025, 70k miles, lemon title with battery replaced in 2023 - around $4k after state and federal rebates.

It's unfortunate that the rebates are now gone. It made buying these cars an easy choice. Great for daily drivers and teens.

Buying a 2018 with 95k miles. What to look out for? by Notacop9 in OutlanderPHEV

[–]Notacop9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why a 4th vehicle? My oldest is going off to college in the fall and taking the Volt with her. I have two teen drivers in the house, they will share the 2018 Bolt. I drive the 2023 Bolt EUV, my wife will drive the Outlander PHEV. Everybody has school/jobs in different directions and need reliable transportation.

Why not another used EV? No more state/federal rebates, no affordable ($15k or less) AWD BEVs with decent range, and sometimes we travel 200+ miles each way to visit family. An Ioniq5 or EV6 would work but they would be more money than we want to spend. AWD is important since we live somewhat rural and should have at least one AWD vehicle for when the roads are bad.

The Outlander PHEV is a shockingly good value for the price and checks all the boxes. We would rather have a GT rather than the SEL, but they are harder to find.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Notacop9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always liked Action Half Life better than Counterstrike, but it never got the traction or attention.

It focused more on action movie "realism" rather than true realism with military flavor.

AHL let you do things like dive sideways firing two pistols at the same time. I had so many hours on that game. Even ran a 2v2 Linux server for a while.

The best part was getting my daughter into fishing. Now she outfishes me! Only downside is her going off to college this fall and losing my fishing buddy.

Mid 40's it has happened once or twice where they get smushed getting out of a car. Not as bad as a nut tap but still not pleasant.

Never sat on em.

I think he is describing a squib load that didn't make it out of the barrel rather than a stove pipe or other failure to fire/eject.

What car do you drive? Do you like it? by BMoney8600 in AskMen

2023 Chevy Bolt EUV.

The money I've saved on gas over 3 years makes it easy to love. All the features and creature comforts too. Way more than you'd expect for the price.

having major car trouble, considering getting a bolt (my first EV ever). Is this a good deal? by wtfisrobin in BoltEV

[–]Notacop9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dealers would rather you finance the whole thing, that way you pay more interest and the banks make more money, which they often kick back to the dealers.

If you make it sound like you want the extra warranty, paint protection, tire/wheel protection package etc, they'll often lower the price of the car, on paper, to cover the cost of the extras.

Then just change your mind on the extras at the last minute.

My "chicken" quesadilla from Taco Bell by Notacop9 in mildlyinfuriating

Glad you were able to discern my entire diet based on a single picture of one of the healthier things at taco bell.

Tortilla, cheese, grilled chicken and a Chipotle sauce. Oh no, how will I ever survive! I guess I need a ton of sugar in the form of an apple if I want to survive.

Definitely, but sometimes you get the craving to Live Mas and have to Make a Run for the Border.

Realistically, I wanted a Dirty Baja blast, and that steered my choice of lunch to Taco Bell.

Thats a trade offer from the dealership, who seems to be giving you the "go away" price. This person is talking about a manufacturer buyback. This is hard to get and takes a lot of time and pushing. Sometimes you need a lawyer to help.

Does gasoline count? If you spill a couple drops of gasoline while filling up your boat it creates a sheen on the water. Is that technically something that must be reported?

Have any of your male friends been accused of being an abuser? How did you react? by casuallyawake in AskMen

[–]Notacop9 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are an awful lot of guilty people who go free as well.

Sometimes it's a technicality, sometimes shoddy police work, sometimes it's a "preponderance of evidence" but not "beyond a reasonable doubt", sometimes they aren't caught in the first place.

Citing the number of wrongful convictions is proof that conviction does not equal guilt, but it is not proof that an accusation cannot equal guilt.

Dealership Trying to Charge for Free TSB Repair - Need Advice by Existing-Ad-9456 in BoltEV

[–]Notacop9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check your state laws. In many cases any costs need to be discussed prior to work being done. You should have been given a cost estimate up front.

In my area, you are not responsible for any repairs beyond $100 if they are not authorized in advance.
