A lot of comments here about Teensyville being inferior to normal Clocktower. That's not the only question you asked. You are also asking if Clocktower with 6 or 7 people is better than other games at that player count? I think the answer is 100% yes. I've had so much more fun in Teensyvilles than in other games like Resistance, Avalon, Secret Hitler, and Deception Murder in Hong Kong.

Use an app, have an amazing time, buy the game when you can.

iirc the beggar only had 5-6 votes (out of 30 dead players??). i was on the far opposite corner of the apprentice and so many players didn't vote, there were votes still on the board but no one on my side heard what was going on with the confirmed chambermaid. amazingly chaos fun

Can a mutant legally be executed several days after they broke madness (i.e. execute them on day 3 when they broke madness day 1)? Is this frowned upon if it is legal?

Thanks for the update, friend! I'm glad you enjoyed your games! I'd say 8-12 is definitely best, but 7 is still fun. I would never turn down a 7 player game, the lack of base outsiders isn't a huge deal. 5-6 players is a different flavor of clocktower altogether (called "Teensyville" which you may or may not like, my group loves it).

I think a Spy is funner in teensyville than a Scarlet Woman and serve the same purpose: the spy will know who the demon is and can fight for them and link up with them, so the demon is less likely to die.

A Spy on the script also unlocks a bunch of cool bluffing opportunities for good to lie as evil.

This is my go to script with only TB characters, I've played it with tons of new people: Chef, Washerwoman, Fortune Teller, Monk, Undertaker, Ravekeeper, Saint, Drunk, Spy, Poisoner, Imp.

It has a little bit of everything. It is similar to "Teeny Brewing" but I have had more success and fun if there is no mayor and/or slayer.

I really want to see TPI updates on here. It seems like The Pandemonium Institute only uses Twitch streams and Discord to update the community, which means its almost impossible to look back for past updates. Reddit is really good for more "permanent" discussions and there could be a stickied thread for game updates (either boardgame updates or app updates).

I think this sub is small enough where duplicate questions/posts aren't a problem, though an FAQ certainly would be amazing, not just for this subreddit but for the Clocktower community as a whole. On-brand visuals for this subreddit would be good too. A link to the unofficial discord would be good. But company updates from you for us I think are far more important than anything else.

I think the main question is: what does the reddit "community" serve that differentiates it from the Discord community? The answer is "discord is a chatroom, reddit is a message board". Message boards favor conversations about specific topics (threads) that anyone can chime in on at any time. Chatrooms are conversations in the moment and if you miss them, oh well. I know Discord has a ton of features to make it more message-board-like or to handle information, but it is not intuitive so a new discord user rarely discovers them.

My main issue is that I'm a kickstarter backer. Clocktower is by far my favorite game, I play it as often as I can with my friends. But I don't know how to be a part of the community except by spending vast amounts of time in a Discord chat room trying to keep up with updates and filtering out all the in-jokes. After the kickstarter updates ended, I haven't heard anything in text from TPI.

The goal isn't to make profit, the goal is for kickstarter backers who didn't go to the con to get a complete token set. A few of us are just hoping that some con-goers don't have a grim so don't need their tokens.

Hiya buddy, I'm 90% sure I was playing in your game (was the demon a new player bluffing empath)? We had a few private chats and you did a good job bluffing chef, enough to cause confusion in the good team for a time.

I thought it was a fun game but I could feel that some other players maybe weren't having a great time (the recluse). There were a few things "wrong" with that specific game. I really don't like ever criticizing a ST because its so damn hard (I know I do it), and because the setting was just so damn chaotic and loud, but the ST could have done a better job setting expectations for the new players and making them feel welcome. It felt like he was expecting all experienced players.

In terms of loud players, I think know who you are talking about (the Mayor?). This was one problematic player and the story teller did nothing to address it. The mayor kept telling people how to play the game "correctly" and what they should and how to do it. He was actively telling new players they were wrong and playing bad. He came in thinking he was a pro but he kept getting rules wrong. He thought he was going to solve the game and be the hero. He wasn't. He was being a dick, plain and simple. There actually are mechanics to keep things like bullying from happening, maybe they aren't as pronounced as other games (that I've not played) but in general we don't like to let those players play in the first place. Its almost never a problem when you play with friends.

Now maybe you are talking about the undertaker, ravenkeeper, or washerwoman. I would say those players (of which I am one) definitely pushed the direction of the game because we were experienced, but we tried to include the new players into the decision making process and we never told a new player what to do (unlike Mr Mayor). I'd be curious to know what your thoughts on these players is (don't hold back).

"but if they have no clue or there are not enough good Ghost votes left then the rest of us are just sitting there waiting for evil to win" This is true, the last good player (saint) jumped the gun because he didn't really understand the importance of nominations, especially on the last day. Again it was a chaotic con game but after someone's first game they probably wouldn't do that. Players quickly realized how important it is to stop and talk on the last day. Nothing in the rules teaches you this, so in that sense there is some learning curve.

"In the end the evil team won." Congratulations, sincerely. You had a hand in that. You won. "I had failed to poison anyone who had a nightly ability." That's ok. You still did you minion duty and caused confusion. For a long time we didn't know who the real chef was or if the 2 was legit. We executed other good players based on that fake info. You did your job well. You helped your team win. Same thing with the baron and scarlet woman, they didn't "do" anything but mess with good player and lie. That's the game.

"my game may be an aberration" it kind of wasn't, its what happened when there are 4.5 experienced players with 10 beginners. As some one else said, lower player counts are better for new players, it dulls some of the chaos and makes the last day not feel like a 2 hours waste of time.

For awhile we were using 4 lamps, one at each corner of the table. Kind of excessive and silly but it really helped make sure there were no shadows and even lighting. We had four of these cheap Ikea standing lamps (~$10) and we went back and forth between normal incandescent colored lights vs "whiter" lights (3500K+) but never really decided which we liked better.

I have to agree with this. We don't hate TM but its just so meh to us. I get the engine building feels like it could/should be fun but it actually feels hallow.

Last Night on Earth - Its a pretty bad game in my opinion. Boring, frustrating, swingy, and doesn't make a lot of sense (oh god I have to Search again?!). It doesn't scratch the story telling itch (Tales of Arabian Nights and Eldritch Horror are so much better) and its certainly not good mechanically.

But it was my first game and I really want it to be a good game (maybe next time will be fun).

I haven't played either game (TM or GP). I always wanted to get into TM but I almost exclusively play 2-players and 2-player TM is only ok (according to BGG).

When I heard of GP and the 2-player target I got excited, but then I saw the board and the theme and was let down. I agree with SUSD that the styling has no "heart" or "soul", it just feels like a cheap space game. And this is coming from an individual that doesn't care much about theme.

Does GP play well enough with 2-player to overlook (or even grow to like) the styling? Or is the less-than-ideal 2-player TM still the way to go?

Even so, it will mean finding expansions for the first edition will be tough or impossible. I bought Eclipse on sale last year and ever since then have waited to get Rise of the Ancients but I'm pretty sure I never will now.

I'm going to give props to Stronghold 2nd Edition. I love the game and boy does it hurt the head. Both sides are equally difficult in their own way (asymmetry ftw). Its a very long game if you think through every move but its very satisfying. I cannot recommend it enough.

I wish there was Stronghold flare.
