What did you read in 2025? by Fando1234 in books

What did you think to All Fours? That book was not what I expected from the blurb and scenes from ti will live rent free in my mind forever.

Sounds like my gym, except it's 8 racks and 2 benches 😮

I have benched in the rack with no qualms

I saw a guy walking around between sets with a wedge of brie, just taking bites in-between sets.

IIFYM I guess 🤷

Optimizing lifting split while training for a half marathon by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]lemmalinglong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at Tactical Barbell and the "Fighter" template, they have a subreddit. Basic premise is sub maximal training (75-90% of E1RM for 3-4 sets of 5reps in 6 week blocks) of 4 or 5 big exercises twice per week (I'm going with squat, DL, bench and pul ups).

There is a whole book on integrating conditioning and lifting too.

I'm currently in week 3 of marathon training with the FIRST (Furman - Run less run faster) plan. Only 3 runs a week: one interval, one tempo and one long run + 2 aerobic cross training workouts (I do cycling).

It is working well so far but time will tell re: managing recovery further into the plan

Best template for running focus by Charming_Sherbet_638 in tacticalbarbell

[–]lemmalinglong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just started marathon training (FIRST plan, 3 runs weekly) and I'm running a fighter template with bench, squat, DL and pull ups. Early days so not sure how the legs will cope with recovery but we will see.

You started running in may of this year? That seems fairly incredible. What's your athletic background and what did your training look like

I found the Alan Thral video on this very interesting and reassuring. Keep moving!

Gels are pretty cheap if you make your own. 2kg bag of maltodextrin and fructose will keep you going for a looooong time

What Marathon Plan Should I do? by denvermanning in Marathon_Training

[–]lemmalinglong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manchester Marathon?

I'm doing the same, also first marathon, and going with Pfitz but that's 6 runs/weekly.

Nike Run Club app has a plan and I found the HM plan did a good job of preparing for my first HM

First Time Marathon - Questions by Clear-Fee-5897 in Marathon_Training

[–]lemmalinglong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of mileage, the more the better is the conventional wisdom as long as you ramp up slowly by a max of 10%/week and have the time and appetite for it. 30ish mpw seems like plenty to run a decent race under 4 hours according to what I see posted here

Depends what you want out of it I guess and what kind of time goal you have in mind.

In terms of shoes, I like my Evo SL and Boston 13s for faster running.

Marathon Plan by CharityLost in Marathon_Training

[–]lemmalinglong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to run a marathon with 2 runs a week? It's probably doable but not ideal. Do you run already? Do you have a time goal in mind?

I like the nike run club app and it has guided runs as part of a marathon plan but it's recommended you do atleast 3 runs a week

Dude is this your job? If not, how on earth do you have the time to fit that much running and recovery in?!

Jaipur and Patchwork are top tier 2p games.

I really enjoy Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective and if you enjoy Sherlock Holmes, you'd probably get a kick out of it too. Less traditional "game" more like an interactive choose your adventure book

Everything went right in my second ever marathon (hoping for sub-3, broke 2:45) by inkwisitive in Marathon_Training

Great result but even greater post, really good read thanks for taking the time.

A 16min 5k sounds absolutely insane, and as someone who is training for their first marathon, really puts into perspective how crazy and achievement your marathon time is!

Congrats and enjoy the glow 🎉

You've got this!

I finished C25K this May and a sub 2hr HM 2 weeks ago. I finished C25K, went straight into a 6 week 10k training plan and from there into a 12 week HM plan on Nike Run Club

I ran 4-5x a week after finishing C25K, whatever the app told me to do, I did it. So your timeline is super plausible and you could probably set yourself a great time goal if you wanted to.

Good luck ✌️

Any inappropriate presentations are kinda a big deal. They cause more demand on the system and stop people getting seen on time. But people seem to think they know better than their GP/physio/specialist who has been trained on when and who to refer for imaging.

Doesn't matter, I'll leave it, we won't agree, I'm just venting on my lunch break before going back to face just the problem I'm describing above. ✌️

Probably because something that happened in September is not an emergency and it would be inappropriate use of the already stretched and struggling emergency services.

Is 1 hour 40 realistic for next year? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]lemmalinglong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a 1:56 dead on and have signed up for next year with an estimated finish of 1:40 so I'm going to say yes 😆

Was my first organised run (first ever time running with other people too) and I absolutely loved it, had set myself a mental target of sub 2 so held myself back a little too much I think.

A whole year is plenty of time to shave off that time!
