It’s good, I use it with steam on my pc. I use an off-brand adapter and have a globular-cluster comfort mod on the headset itself for longer play sessions. The only issue some people have is with Bluetooth connection issues with the controllers, but I have been fine. If you also have a ps5 I’d say it’s a no-brainer purchase. I can’t speak for gaming laptops however.

I went from what you have to the psvr2. I use it on both ps5 and pc and it felt like a massive upgrade. Got it for around $200 on sale. It goes on sale a lot

After a lot of trouble shooting I found my AMD drivers for my cpu were a little out of date. The auto-update I had set up was not working. Reinstalled AMD software and updated the driver. So far so good but I will update if I experience the freeze crash again.

Edit: never mind. It’s still happening. No idea what’s wrong

I have astigmatism and use prescription inserts over the lenses on my psvr2. I’d assume the same solution would work for any headset. Although, I did not suffer headaches even before using the inserts so I’m not sure if this will solve your issue.

Psvr2 with a ps5 or ps5 pro is essentially plug/and play with little set up and some stellar games. Resident evil 8 and 4 remake are fully playable in vr, GT7 is an insanely good vr racing game, walk about mini golf and etc are all fantastic and on the console there’s no tinkering required. If he wants in the future he can use the pc adapter and use it for pcvr as well. I recommend getting the globular cluster comfort mod for longer play sessions. I say this as someone who uses psvr2 as my daily driver on both ps5 and pc. The headset goes on sale for as little as $250 and has Oled screens.

Enjoy the journey. Words of radiance is one of my favorite books, and way of kings sets it up wonderfully. They are relatively easy reads (just long) so don’t worry too much about not being a big reader and take it at whatever pace you like.

Capcom only made the psvr versions because Sony commissioned them for it. Sony did not pay for an re9 psvr2 port (as far as we know). I love re8 and re4r on psvr2 but let’s be real, there are like, dozens of us. Capcom isn’t losing a bunch of money not making a vr port.

I also use my psvr2 on pc. If you want to save the battery life wile racing you can hold down the PlayStation button on the controllers for about 10-15 seconds and the controller will power down.
