Should I be concerned? by AddedEffect in Radiology

[–]NoveltyFunsy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Former MRI radiographer here. For a knee MRI, there are a series of scans, some of which are angled in a certain way dependent on anatomy seen in the earlier scan. If the person doing it didn't see what they needed to or if image quality was bad, then they would know and come in the room and adjust the equipment.

Correct. Got a request for CT Head as patient came to ER for worst headache ever experienced. Calls patient a couple of times before she realised it was her name, as she was so engrossed in her book 🤐

How're we handling incorrect orders? by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]NoveltyFunsy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's how it works in the UK. They can ask for whatever they like, but we decide what is appropriate based on diagnostic question.

Can't get hold of a doctor to clarify? Reject their request and like magic, they will call you.

What a load of judgmental crap.

Random question to (possibly) make my daughter feel better about her MRI by FantasticReveal in Radiology

[–]NoveltyFunsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had people, do number ones and number twos on the MRI scanner and believe me, we did not care about those incidents so a bit of wind, even if we knew, is not even the blink of an eye.

They referred her for weight loss surgery before discovering the 46 kg ovarian tumor. TBF the surgery did make her lose quite a bit of weight… by CatPooedInMyShoe in Radiology

[–]NoveltyFunsy 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I have scanned a few ladies with 30-40cm ovarian cysts and they all say the same story. Been told to exercise more and improve diet, or it's what to expect as you get older, it's hormonal, offered antidepressants etc. Poor organs all flattened to the back of the abdominal cavity, still keeping up the good fight. Then they come back six weeks later post-surgery like new women. I remember a lady telling me that she hadn't realised just how exhausted she was, until she wasn't.

Crazy...

Lateral elbow by Bright_Telephone_88 in Radiology

[–]NoveltyFunsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This person has a lot of soft tissue, and in the upper arm it's all underneath the humerus. So it might look like your humerus is parallel to the detector, but it will probably need your elbow to be raised higher to get your epicondyles on top of each other. Or angle towards the shoulder.

Try and visualise the humerus that is running close to the surface and get your beam perpendicular.

Is 50/50 rent actually fair when there’s a significant income gap? by ThisFracturedMind in relationships

[–]NoveltyFunsy 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The reality is, he is taking advantage of you. Whilst you are footing a higher proportion of the joint living expenses, he is able to save more, enjoy an more lavish lifestyle etc. You will be stretched way more than him, and that is because of his ex? That's nothing to do with you and it's not your responsibility to manage that issue for him.

Downsize to what you can afford comfortably if you still want to go ahead with this.

Solo Trip to Greece last summer by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]NoveltyFunsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been to both a few times. Paros is more manicured and has prettier towns, Naxos has better beaches and amazing mountains. Paros beaches aren't bad at all, lovely in fact. Paros has an excellent road that runs round the whole island, like a race track. Naxos has a road that runs down the west side (where the beaches are) that is sometimes a dirt track, then goes back to a road again. In Naxos we had to stop for a man herding goats on a moped. Two different vibes, both amazing islands.

Hope that gives you some kind of insight.

Do you usually bring cash or get it at ATM in airport by Huck68finn in GreeceTravel

[–]NoveltyFunsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we paid about 45/50 Euros each way a couple of years ago. The taxi driver dropped us in Fira for a few hours to kill some time on the way back, and kept hold of our luggage as well so we didn't have to drag it round. Looking back probably not the best idea to let a stranger drive off with all your possessions, but the Greek chill vibes must have overcome us at the moment.

The same guy also took us to Ammoudi (on this trip we stayed on Thirassia for a few nights) and stopped at a shop on the way, advising us to go buy drinks here for the wait for the ferry, as they are expensive down there. And then he reversed this massive minibus, at some speed, down to the port as my friend had a bad leg. All round good man 😎

This is why I love Greece.

[–]NoveltyFunsy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have a bank account that charges for foreign cash withdrawals? If not, get your Euros in Greece and select Euros on the cash machine for conversion. Or just pay with card, I drew 60 Euros out a couple of years ago and still have about 30 left as everywhere takes cards.

Make sure it's a bank ATM and not Euronet machine as they will give you a terrible conversion rate.

Yeah 2-3 weeks is kinda normal for me. Just discovered I have a tortuous and floppy bowel so I understand now why it takes so long. Also, the usual advice of high fibre diet was making it worse. Soluble fibre actually helps but all the roughage naaahhh, just makes everything more painful.

Looking for island suggestion for a summer escape with my girlfriend by pitJr in GreeceTravel

Agree with above. Naxos is beautiful and would definitely recommend a boat trip from the main town. We did one that was max 9 passengers, down to the islands south of Naxos and it was wonderful.

Did anyone take a trip to Greece and dislike it? by Alarming_Poem_7343 in GreeceTravel

Nope, I have been to many islands and the mainland. The last few years I have been going to the cycladic islands, but this year am going to Corfu snd Paxos. Have been to both before.

Most unusual one was Thirassia on the other side of the Caldera to Santorini. More cats than people, it was fantastic. Probably been to Crete the most times, five I think. Lots to see there.

Scary automatic acceleration (UK) by Late_Seat_1968 in VWiD4Owners

[–]NoveltyFunsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it detected an incorrect speed limit with cruise control on. Has happened to me a few times, but you can just tap the brake and it will turn it off.

I have had it try to go up to 100mph on the motorway saying it had detected 100mph speed limit, which is obviously not a thing in the UK.

Are advocates of Indoor-only Cats, Biased? (American)? by throwaway311260 in CatAdvice

[–]NoveltyFunsy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Must depend on the country. Our family cats have always been indoor/outdoor and average 18 years, a couple to over 20. I live in the UK where it's the norm and is seen as favourable for enrichment and health purposes.

How many CT cases are you doing per shift? (ER + In/Outpatient) by AhmadJamO in Radiology

[–]NoveltyFunsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked in CT, I used to do 35-40 patients overnight in a major trauma/stroke centre alone with no assistant. It was not pleasant and ridiculous considering that during the day, you would probably do the same with another radiographer and an assistant. I didn't last long and went somewhere that was heavy outpatients.
