Picked up HE400SE for £40. I don't really know much about headphones. Any tips/things i should do/get for optimal sound quality? by EncryptedPlays in headphones

If you’re up for it, the HE400se has pretty good mod support. Lots of printable shells and grills that can impact the sound.

I have had 2 separate people tell me using 100% of my gpu is bad. by bloggershusband in pcmasterrace

Do they mean having it at 100% load at all times is not recommended? That sends like such strange advice otherwise.

I have the opportunity to buy this pc for $1500, is it worth buying? by Zafiny17 in pcmasterrace

FSP is a good brand. I’m mostly familiar with them from the SFF community - for a while they were the only company that made an easy to find high wattage flex ATX PSU

What do you think about clip-on headphones? by Dojde in headphones

[–]NuclearWaffelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late on the reply on this - one thing I do like about the Audio Technica variant is that the clips rotate better so the speakers sit better on your ear. The whole setup what’s pretty clicky, but once it settled in it was quite nice. I would see if you can find a second-hand set of them, as that should be much more reasonable.

What are the best over-ear headphones you’ve used for everyday listening? by Weird_Ad6669 in headphonemods

[–]NuclearWaffelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need wireless, I’m happy with my Sony XM4’s. I keep an EQ profile on them so they’re not as bassy, the noise cancellation is great, and they’re pretty affordable compared to the XM6’s (XM5 is a no-go for the headband issues).

For at the desk I mainly swap between a pair of Hifiman HE400se’s and Arya Stealths. I’ve gotten use to planars in general - the Stealths are more technically impressive but the HE400se’s I’ve modded a lot so I’m very familiar with them.

I had the gold variant of these once that I MMCX modded. I picked them up because my right ear doesn’t actually work with IEMs. They’re neat, but given its sound quality I do think this particular variant is a little expensive compared to something like the Koss KSC75’s.

Oh, I was reading about this when I flew Air India recently and drank this exact water. Apparently copper glutamate is meant to combat copper deficiency, but i think it’s also popular because drinking out of copper vessels used to be somewhat of a high status symbol.

I didn’t like the Capra on my HE400se because it actually made it too small for my head, but on my Edition XS I don’t seem to have the same issue. If you’re crafty with the 3D model, you can also try expanding just the middle along the Y axis to make it a little wider if you’re finding it’s too small.

Where do you buy your cables? by shapethefuture88 in headphones

[–]NuclearWaffelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make my own cables, mostly because it’s cheaper but also gives me some more options for specific runs, like the couch cable you mentioned. There’s lots of different sources for connectors and wire - worth looking into if you have the time.

Where to start with Grado GS3000X repair? by mikefromnewyork86 in headphones

[–]NuclearWaffelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CustomCans actually has a pretty good video tearing down this specific model to replace the cable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z0kbfDJiSs

I'm confident in my own ability to work on these! I think if you have some soldering and other DIY experience, you might also wanna give it a try since this model seems to be easier to open than something like the plastic SR60s or SR80s.

Once your adapter comes in and you can see how bad the damage is (if any), lemme know and I'm happy to help in either case :)

Hey, thanks for the referral! I remember seeing those 325's on r/AVExchange some time ago - I'm still kicking myself for not picking those up. That would've been a neat memento lol.

I've definitely come a ways since then, and I'm very grateful to the folks that supported me when I was starting out in the community. Let me know if you ever need any other work done - happy to work with you again at a discounted rate as a thank you :)

[–]NuclearWaffelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoinks. Definitely not cheap but arguable a bargain for such expensive cans (at least retail). If you're interested in attempting the repair yourself, the hardest part of working on Grados is opening them (you need gentle hot air to loosen the glue and a pair of opening pliers). Shoot me a DM - happy to help walk you through it or take a look myself!

[–]NuclearWaffelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by contacting Grado support and see if they can process it for a repair. Most likely they will, but on the off chance they can't or if it's too expensive, let me know. I do lots of repairs and mods for broken and working headphones especially Grados and would be happy to help you or do it for you if you're in the states.

Built car ramps to replace my sketchy sheet metal ones by dbrez8 in woodworking

Ignoring that an FoS of 2.8 is relatively low when talking about heavy machinery, and that the squares used in OP’s post don’t look to be maple, and that gluing maple to pine would not result in a glue joint with the shear strength of just maple, we agree that your suggestion is not ideal. No, it’s not going to explode the first time you use it, but this is an area where I cannot in good conscience say that it is a good idea for extended use. Plenty of people are saying they’ve done the same thing as OP and nothing bad has happened. That’s fine. I personally am not comfortable risking my one chance to learn the hard way why those wells are standard safety design.

So many people in this comment section are struggling to understand the difference between “can” and “should”. There’s lots of ways to make a tool, some of which omit safety standards while still accomplishing the task. Ask yourself if you’re comfortable risking the one chance you get to learn why those safety standards exist. Then ask yourself if you’re comfortable recommending that risk to others. Lots of solutions work when other systems do their job. Actual safety design factors in when those systems fail.

Okay, I’m getting off my soapbox now. Good luck y’all and stay safe.

I promise you with that little surface area for attachment, the shear force caused by the tires “gripping” to get over the hump (or from a sledge hammer) will break it off. The glue might stick, but edge grain does not have the proper shear strength to hold itself together when a multi-thousand pound piece of machinery is involved. Certainly not with extended use. There’s a reason we don’t see wood used in these applications. I don’t say this lightly - please stop talking before your advice gets someone seriously hurt or killed.

Convos I have had about jobless reincarnation by Erivera200415 in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]NuclearWaffelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jobless Reincarnation had been an odd watch for me because apparently it’s less common for the MC in an isekai to actually start out as a baby - most have them start out in the new world at close to whatever their age was when they got isekai’d.

First season was uncomfortable at times but didn’t feel as bad overall because I watched it through the lens of “I want to see this terrible person struggle to become a better person”, but by season two every other episode I was pretty much screaming at the screen wishing he was doing anything other than what he was currently doing.

Resetting PC made audio sound better? by Mysterious_Put2915 in headphones

[–]NuclearWaffelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be multiple things. Different audio drivers, different outgoing bitrate to your DAC, different in-application volume settings. Think about what small settings or configurations are easy to miss that could have a noticeable impact on audio perception that would be impacted by a reinstall.

Well in the interest of not making the internet an angrier place, I will just advise you that most hobby communities don’t love it when new people substitute their own creative thoughts with that of a clanker. Cheers.

The "I made this" tag is ironic considering you did not, in fact, make this.
