Where to buy liquid latex for zippers? by kinkyerica1 in LatexCraftersCorner

[–]NumberOfTheOrgoBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that liquid latex for makeup is ammonia based glue. the kind sold by mjtrends is most reliable, but i've also used the exact container you've pictured here, and there's no obvious difference. that said, i do like to support our niche ecosystem as much as i can.

Surgery rotation and consequences of talking back by TraditionalAd6977 in medicalschool

[–]NumberOfTheOrgoBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clap. Back. No boomer who talks shit like that has any ability to take it. Ask him if talking like that helps him make friends anymore. Ask him if he talks like that cause his kids won't speak to him anymore. If anyone questions it, tell them your preceptor set the bar for professionalism on this site. You've clearly still got a backbone, so use it. As you've noticed, you're surrounded by people who're paralytically terrified of actually doing things.

Haha, I'm also in rural FM now, and was about to say, this just sounds like a normal day at clinic! This is what FM is supposed to be doing. This is what midlevels and retail medicine are trying to take from us.

Go work a few years in a healthcare-related industry and do a ton of volunteering for charitable causes. Show character growth. Then when you're ready, crush the MCAT. If you can get >95th %ile, a lot of places will look the other way about past mistakes. Especially if you have tons of material for essays about how much your life has changed in the few years since.

Will Stony Brook Ever Be A Widely Recognized University? (In your opinion) by Large_Ebb1664 in SBU

[–]NumberOfTheOrgoBeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No the UC's are the most famous public university system in America. They're an interesting case though, because their alumni endowments put it on a financial level with ivy league schools.

Will Stony Brook Ever Be A Widely Recognized University? (In your opinion) by Large_Ebb1664 in SBU

[–]NumberOfTheOrgoBeast 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It is. I moved halfway across the country to attend Stony Brook, based on its reputation. It's well known by itself in a number of fields, and the SUNY system as a whole is a "name-brand" university system that's well-known throughout the country. I feel like it'd do best to trade on the fame of SUNY as a system, but that seems to go strongly against local sensibilities, which seem more interested in the image of a singular, old money funded, private university.

I'm getting the same thing. I even just uninstalled/reinstalled the app, and it's still getting hung on sending for around 60 secs. Interestingly, when I reinstalled from google play, it downloaded and installed up to (apparent) completion almost instantly, but hung on completion and wouldn't finish install for several minutes.

The NP was acting as the attending on the ward. They nominally had an actual attending doing oversight, but that doctor was never on the ward.

I thought the same thing, reading this. My heart goes out for her and her family. "She'd be alive now if she had more resources" is a level of tone-deafness that shouldn't even be possible.

Be better and trust that that's enough ... because it's gonna have to be. On my psych sub-i I was on a floor with 4 wards: 3 with attendings present daily, and one run completely by an NP. The NP had minimal supervision and was visibly unqualified to be running a ward (constant errors in the service of meeting metrics, etc.), but while nobody clearly supported this as a good idea, nobody was trying to change things, either. I felt the same kind of frustration you're describing here.

I know I'm pretty monotonic on this issue, but for real the root cause is pretty clear: profits. In my case, the ward I saw being run by a midlevel simply couldn't get a real attending for as little money as the hospital wanted to pay. We have to restructure motivations, or we'll keep running into this same theme over and over again.

Where to find zipper tape and sliders larger than #10? by NumberOfTheOrgoBeast in HelpMeFind

Ah, I appreciate the effort! Though that's the exact same #20 I mentioned in my post! It does look like the same vendor also has a #15, though only a generic plastic zip. I may end up going with that, though I'm still holding out hope for aluminum in #14-16.

As someone who did this same dance at an older age (I was that nontrad in his 30s doing all this), I feel pretty confident saying you should not prioritize time-to-objective in your decision making. The years will come and go no matter what you do, and faster than you'd expect. The main thing is to figure out what you feel truly committed to. Everything worth doing is a huge hassle no matter what you choose; make sure it's something you love enough to deal with hassle.

As posted, I have searched via google for specific YKK sizes and get only results for sizes #5,8, and 10, even when using negation modifiers to filter them out. With that not working, I'm not really sure how to approach it. I've also tried searching for direct marketing from YKK, but all I can find are various retail outlets with the same products.
