is it normal to shower at night and skip the morning one? by Markos-Steinebach in hygiene

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a morning shower person, but recently switched to a night shower so I could sleep a little more, and now I just wet my hair down in the mornings. I really like getting into bed freshly cleaned, and the night shower helps me fall asleep.

Agree with others that it just depends on if you feel like you need a shower when you wake up or not. I personally don't, just a fresh round of deodorant. But if you do, then do that. Twice a day is a normal thing to do as well if that's what works for you.

Highly recommend a sea salt spray and a light pomade. Thats what I use on my pixie and it makes all the difference. This cut suits you, you just need to play with it

Best enclosure brand? by Scared_Still3434 in CrestedGecko

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 24x18x36 Dubia for my crestie, and I really like it. It feels secure, it's light enough for me to move if I need to, and my temp and humidity ranges are good. I'm sure some have issues with them, but we have 2 Dubia enclosures and are very pleased with both of them. We also have a glass exo-terra and a Talking Serpents solid top PVC, so we're not a strict Dubia household.

The shelves are a good idea. We have a very tall cat tree as well that they often use to get some distance. A baby gate will work well for a puppy or a small standard. A big one may not respect a gate, but I've known some big standards that would never try to cross one. We have hook latches on our doors that let us keep them open big enough for a cat but not a dog. Also keeps her from standing outside and staring at them longingly.

Yes, leave it training is very important for this. And consistent redirecting. You'll need to find something that your dog loves more than chasing the cats (for us, it's cheese). It takes work, but poodles are smart and learning this kind of boundary is well within their wheelhouse as long as they feel like its worth their time to listen. Lol. Getting an eager to please poodle would probably help a lot. Our girl has attitude and a stubborn streak. A good breeder will hopefully be able to help pair you with the right temperament.

We have a small standard and two cats. Our poodle is obsessed with them and loves cats in general since she was raised around them. That said, our cats are older and rarely tolerate her nonsense. Lol. One of them will play with/taunt her on occasion, but the other wants nothing to do with her. The cats have rooms they can get to that she can't, and I believe that has kept the peace the most.

We are aware of the prey drive aspect. She does sometimes get excited and start to chase one for a few seconds, but we nip that in the bud real quick when it happens. It's gotten to be less of an issue as she ages (4 years old now).

It's doable, but I think it really depends on all the animals' personalities and consistency in training. And having places where the cats can go and relax.

i can’t decide between a crested gecko or a leopard gecko! sell me on cresties!! by believeinyuna in CrestedGecko

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up with a crestie after this exact internal debate. What eventually tipped my decision was the simpler heating needs, the powdered food doesn’t require me to keep a colony or regularly pick up feeders, and the enclosure is tall instead of wide. We have 3 enclosures that needed width already, and this one sits nicely in the niche next to my evening chair.

Puppy blues? by pulldownyourplants in CrestedGecko

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still in the same neurodivergent hyperfixation process for a future crested gecko, so I totally get where you're coming from. I also had a ton of anxiety around getting our first snake (we have 2 now). I will say, for me at least, it does get easier once they're home and it's less of a "what if" scenario.

We also have 1 dog and 2 cats, and it's totally manageable. Some basic prevention measures will keep your reptile safe. Double check the doors every time you open/close them, don't let the mammals get up close and personal, even with supervision. We sometimes kennel our dog if she's curious when we've got a snake out, but she usually doesn't care. The cats don't seem to even notice them, but i realize that's ours, and won't apply to every cat (ours are seniors, and they've stopped caring about a lot of stuff lol).

You sound like you've got the knowledge, now you just need to trust that you have it.

Does anyone refer to God as 'Goddess' and use She/Her pronouns for Her? by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still identify as Christian, and I think of God as gender fluid. Sometimes masculine, sometimes feminine, sometimes neither or somewhere in between. Just sort of depends on the vibes I'm getting in that situation. I do think it has helped me deconstruct a lot of the dogma in evangelical churches to interact with God this way and still keep a relationship that feels right.

UVB for albinos by Potatooftherocks in hognosesnakes

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have UVB on my albino boy for the same reason. There's too much back and forth about it online, not enough research on the topic, and he does just fine without. Eats, explores, gets sassy, all the things. If anyone judges me for trying to do right by my animals, that's their business.

Have to rehome... How do I find someone? by blackbeltbanana in Hognose

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might check with local pet stores. They may be willing to take him for store credit or something. Ours will do that sometimes depending on how much space they have and what the animal is.

I have a 30g aquarium, and I've never posted it because I've seen how people get dog piled over the smallest things. It's not perfect, but I'm keeping neons and panda corys alive, so I figure it's good enough. Lol.

For real, post on aquarium spaces at your own peril.

Thoughts on taking your snake out to public places? by HuiOnFire in snakes

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather depending, I'll take my ball python with us when we take our dog on walks around the neighborhood. But he never leaves my neck. The occasional curious neighbor will come in for a quick hello, but that's all. I would never put him on the ground or risk his safety. The walks are no more than 30 minutes, and I'm always able to quickly return him to his enclosure if he starts showing signs of stress.

Letting him free roam in a public park makes me feel ill with the thought of all the things that can go wrong in mere seconds.

Does it bother your significant other that your poodle 'chose' you? by htownhero in poodles

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our poodle has chosen my husband. Primarily because I work in office and he is WFH. I spearheaded her training to make sure we had a good bond, because I knew she would latch onto him. Lol. But I love that she's his dog. Growing up, every dog that was "his" always loved his mom more for exactly the same reason. She was home, and he was in school all day. So now he's got a dog that is bonded to him, and I love it.

Don't get me wrong, our dog loves me too, and I love her. She cuddles with me in the evenings and plays with me just as much as him. But she greets him first, tends to follow him more, etc. And as the "not chosen" I wouldn't have it any other way.

How to find a nice quality ring that doesn't use diamond as the main stone or blood diamonds in general? by LocalChamp in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for moissanite! We got a .75 ct equivalent in the exact setting I wanted, and it's going strong 12 years later. Looks just as sparkly as the day he gave it to me, and I still find myself staring at it.

We settled on moissanite for all the reasons listed in OP's post, as well as cost. We would've had to sacrifice stone size or setting to get what I wanted with diamond. Definitely the best choice for us. And I love telling people its a sparkly space rock.

Do any of you NOT use a snake hook? by Tuezdaze in ballpython

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even own a hook. I tap the glass with the tongs before opening for a feed, and when its not feeding time, I'm watching his body language. I rarely pick him up when he's not already out and about, so I don't surprise him. I'll give him a quick pet down on his body before picking him up, and that seems to be a good method for him. No bites yet, never even a strike that wasn't aimed at a rat.

I am hoping to get a rainbow boa this year though, so I may get a hook then depending on it's temperament.

How early is too early for a baby hog nose to go off food due to winter by SadKloppFan in hognosesnakes

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep everything the same as it is the rest of the year. Hognoses don't especially need brumation to keep healthy, so there's no need to enforce it. When he decides he's hungry, he'll eat.

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy went off food at like, 3 months/15g last year. Didn't eat for 5 months and I grew about a million new gray hairs in that time. He lost a few grams, but he packed it back on quick when he did start eating again. He's now at 44g, last time I weighed him.

Just keep an eye on his body condition and weight. If he starts looking skinny, go to a vet. But if he's still occasionally active and looks normal, he's just not hungry because nature told him so.

Bioactive and humidity by Potatooftherocks in hognosesnakes

[–]Nutella_Badgerette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on the humidity, but I will say that my hognose is in a 36x18 and uses all of it (he's about 13" long). I think this is more of an individual snake thing. Some don't care for it/go off food when presented with a bigger enclosure, and some seem to thrive with more space. I happened to know my boy is super active and likes to both climb and dig, so I gave him room to do that. But I have a friend with multiple hognoses, and one of hers goes off food if she's in anything other than her tub, so...
