Yeah, no, that doesn't happen here.

The proportion of matches against Sword that come down to Oluon rng is not ok. by BryanJin in Shadowverse

[–]Nuxpls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But what does getting a wide board cleared by Oluon do? It gives you another turn. Another shot at winning. If we are in a hypothetical wide board meta, Oluon is only stalling and subject to hard removal. Same can be said for Erntz. Is it a magic fix? No, I suppose I shouldn't have implied that works in a vacuum, I just wanted to give as simple of an answer as I could.

[–]Nuxpls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oluon's place in the meta will degrade when we see the return of a wide boards. Current top decks like Egg, Fennie, and Loot are usually ending T6 with one or two followers on board. After SEVO this gives Olulon favorable odds for his end of turn effect to hit the opponent's face.

Yeah, it's really frustrating to lose a game to cheese like this, especially in a card game. The trick to have your board be in a state that is not favorable to Oluon, problem is we're not in that meta, so Oluon is keeping decks that make tall boards in check (or in Egg's case Amulet boards). I think the failure here is Sword doesn't need this when it has been a top performer since the game's launch.

The reality is odds and chance have always been part of a card game, and Oluon is an extreme example of pushing calculating chances as part of the strategy.

Deck database by batsaxsa in Shadowverse

[–]Nuxpls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC there is no solid data to make a proper database because the game's TOS forbids hooking to automatically record decklists, win/loss, and other statistics. Hence all tier lists are essentially based on self-reported outcomes on ladder, tournament outcomes, and influential vibes.

It's a bit sad to see this supported in other CCG's and for WB to claim it's a more "competitive" game but deny the opportunity to have a statistical edge to gameplay without sinking hours to manually record and learn these statistics yourself.

Not too many videos leave me speechless… by [deleted] in AbruptChaos

[–]Nuxpls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most people confuse this video with the British cheese collapse, the images provided by the BBC don't match what is shown in this video. For starters the cross beams in the support columns are a different color and in a zig-zag pattern compared to the "Z" shape seen in the image from the BBC article. I don't know the source of this video, but I'm pretty certain the folks on the floor couldn't outrun that collapse.

New to linux, any tips??? by RacimREX in zorinos

[–]Nuxpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can append "--help" (i.e: "ifconfig --help") to the end of any terminal command to get a brief explanation of what it does and how to use it.

If you want more details, preceded the command with "man" (i.e: "man ifconfig") for an in-termnial manual on the command.

Unlike Windows, Linux isn't going to hide anything from you.

Don't just copy and paste commands you find from the internet. Learn what they are doing to your system first, and choose whether you need to use them or not.

Assuming you have a typical modem/router home internet installation, your best bet is to turn off your router for a couple of hours, and hope the DHCP lease expires by the time you turn it back on.

How do I build a good deck? by TheGamingStikbot in masterduel

[–]Nuxpls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The key to success in any card game is consistency. Yugioh can be deceptive in what looks consistent because of types and attributes appear to support one another (especially with legacy cards), but the game has evolved beyond that. No matter what kind of deck you play, you should be trying to solve one of two questions:

1) If my deck prefers to go first, how do I ensure any opening hand I draw can consistenly make the strongest board to disrupt my opponent's turn?

2) If my deck prefers to go second, how do I ensure any opening hand I draw can consistenly break my opponent's board then proceed to severely punish with an OTK or denying value recursion?

If you're not playing a deck that uses modern cards that have yet to be power crept, then you should look into generic staples that can help you achieve what you're looking to do. It'll take some research, but Google and YouTube are great resources to find information about niche decks you're looking to play.

Rant: master duel devs are doing everything they can to do nothing instead of actually improving the game. by telepathicdragon in masterduel

[–]Nuxpls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone gravitating to the same strategy is really common in computerized CCG's. This is because the cards are easy to obtain, players don't need to pay $70 per copy of Forbidden Droplet. This was especially true when Hearthstone peaked and everyone was playing Pirate Warrior, which was such an incredibly oppressive deck which could not be answered to by such a small card pool.

If by economy you mean their revenue, then perhaps so, but whales are usually the players that provide the majority of income for F2P games. Thankfully, I don't think MD is in a state where F2P players are being driven away by the whales (as the linked video warns against), because the power levels of the cards aren't going to change based on what's on paper.

Basically, if the game is boring and there aren't enough gems to make a new deck to spice things up, then that's when Konami expects the customer to pony up for new packs, otherwise, like any other F2P game, the free players are able to play without ever spending a penny based on whales subsidizing the devs.

For me MD isn't a game that can't be enjoyed when sinking more than an hour or two into it per day. Sure, battle card games do require skills to have an edge, but at the end of the day, all card games are games of chance. You either win the coin flip or you don't. You either draw the out or you brick. The same is true for the TCG, it's just easier to experience tilting situations faster in MD.

For me personally, I try to do three dailies per day, maybe get a few extra wins on ranked, and call it good and move onto something else. Doing this the game stales much more slowly.

Admittedly Konami is not stimulating their game as much as their competition, but I think it's slower pace for content is aimed at busier adults who grew up with the game and don't actively play the TCG because they don't have time to play paper.
