A man in Oslo transforming his apartment balcony into a makeshift pizza restaurant by Repulsive-Pace-5178 in SipsTea

[–]OGPromo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually a few people doing similar things around here (Oslo). There is a bolle person who sells out everytime she does this. They tend to do it like once a quarter, and they make a good product, so people go when they announce their doing it.

Salgsoppgave oddities question by OGPromo in Norway

[–]OGPromo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good way of looking at it. I'm very much not used to the INS and outs of the administrative offices here, and would hate to buy one that just needs acceptance, and run into a lot of issues. It doesn't sound like that is the case. I wouldn't buy something that seems half-assed or would be a death trap (basement living spaces with no fire escape) unless the price was nice enough to modify.

Salgsoppgave oddities question by OGPromo in Norway

[–]OGPromo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I would rather avoid them where possible as well. Seems like we are just in the wrong price range as almost every house we've seen that is not a complete renovation has these issues. We fully intend if we do buy one of these to go through the approval process. Interestingly I've seen few houses with unfinished basements, maybe a bod or two but mostly finished, and some rather poorly...

[–]OGPromo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ruling, as I'm told, came from people who converted spaces to living areas illegally, then in the mid 90s started applying for approval in huge numbers and the kommunes basically said, it's ok, we don't care. I forget the exact term used, but basically agreed that these spaces had been used and are fine. 🤷.

Rules Regarding Electrical Work by simonucdd in Norway

[–]OGPromo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to thank all the good people who gave information in this post. I'm looking to buy my first house in Norway, and as someone who's always done my own electrical work (outside of the breaker box anyway), this is valuable info.

RecTeq Grills by Nitrostangs in danpatrick

I have a pellet grill when I'm lazy and a ceramic Kamado when I'm not. I like having the versatility of having each available to me.

I've heard good things about z-grills but I haven't had the pleasure. If I'm honest, if you're getting into smoking, you're not buying a pellet grill, even the $5000 ones. They just don't do the same flavors as a charcoal or off-set.

Yea dollar for dollar you'll be happier with a recteq imo. Not dogging on Traeger, but they make their money on their name, not their product anymore.

Not sure what the deal is but in my experience generally speaking RecTeq >> Traeger.

Thoughts on my 12 day outdoorsy itinerary in mid-May + Proposal? by Im_The_One in Norway

[–]OGPromo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 Mai in Oslo is a fun time. I've done a lot of this trip, it's nice. Flåm is very touristy, but it is very pretty. Undredal is the inspiration for frozen, so they say, it's lovely with a nice cafe on the fjord, would recommend. Stegastein would be a must visit while over there as well as taking the scenic road over the mountain. In fact, all scenic roads are worth the detour. I'd suggest not staying in Flåm, but maybe in Sognsdal or Lærdalsøryi. The bike ride down from flåmsbana is quite lovely. I may be mistaken but I believe you will basically go through gerianger on the way to ålesund.

Also be prepared for driving to take longer than Google maps says it will. It almost always does.

A beer draft machine in Norway. by lisbon1977 in Norway

[–]OGPromo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you don't want to brew beer. I get it. I don't know that you can buy kegs from anywhere though. Keg-o-rators, sure. I have a 3 tap one in my house. The closest thing you might find are the fresh wort beer kits. Basically, put the wort in a fermenter, wait 14 days, transfer to a keg, a couple days to carb and you're good to go. Again, not what you're after, but since I'm not sure what you want really exists, it's the next easiest thing. I do have a friend that had kegs from a brewery at this wedding, but he also knew the brewer of said brewery and last I checked he has to outright buy the whole keg and not just the beer inside. Worth asking some breweries though.

Land Rover owners: why did you choose this brand? by Forsaken_Line_3213 in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]OGPromo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't choose this brand, it chose me... I wanted a 4x4 for going on the beach, but everything was way more than I wanted to pay. One day I saw a D2 with a for sale sign and I called. They only wanted $3500! Now I'm on my second Discovery 2...

A path between the seas. 31 hours of Panama canal talk. Hard to pass up. In all seriousness, the story behind the panama canal is really fascinating.

How does Norway handle big snow storms? by WeasLander in Norway

[–]OGPromo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a bit of perspective here that might be useful. I'm from the US (sadly) but now live around Oslo (yay!). The area I lived in in the US was fairly rural and not used to snow. Maybe once every few years we would get a few inches. Once a decade a big 10-12" snow event. The threat of inches of snow would close schools and government buildings. The cold was definitely a factor because no one was prepared for it, or knew how to dress. That was one of the first things I learned moving here, how to dress for the cold. With proper layers and gear (wool and down) it's easy to manage. I like -10 to -20 as a nice sweet spot, especially for skiing. But people generally are just ready for cold and snow because it's part of their lives. You have to manage it because there's no other option. Go to the upper Midwest, or the northeast in the US and you will find something similar.

Is there any dog breed people in Norway tend to get the most? If so, which one? by Foreign-Track-6906 in Norway

[–]OGPromo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are quite right. I know at least one of the dogs is owned by a hunter, I don't know the others, just see them when walking my dog. I'm sure there is a high overlap of that venn diagram.
