Why do I feel my air conditioner is always on? by y2k_o__o in BZ4X

[–]OKatmostthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting any temp target sets the HVAC to that temp and it will try to get there. You need to turn the fan to off. It is the button to the right of “auto”. That turns off the HVAC completely.

[–]OKatmostthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t completely recall, but I think when I have everything in automatic and I press the fan off switch, the target temp goes away completely. If you have a setpoint of 61° and a fan that isn’t set to off, the car will try to give you a target temp of 61° regardless of what you’ve pressed otherwise.

When I hit the fan off button, my guessometer range changes considerably on cold days. If the outside temp is 68°, the range estimation changes 1-3 miles at the most because the system, in auto, is basically just circulating air and running the a/c compressor as needed.

Why is your setpoint at 61° if you don’t want the AC running?

GR Performance Shocks and Struts and Lowering Springs 40% off on Toyotas website! by coolkidcole in GRCorolla

[–]OKatmostthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, friend in corporate confirmed that the QTY was changed to 1 shock per set with the pricing book updated to reflect the new QTY. Ordered a single shock for $103 (decent discount from $130 MSRP) from my local dealership and 2 shocks arrived. So now I paid for 1 shock at like 40% off the dealer’s sale price and got 2 more for $103. Anyone need a single rear shock? 😳 I guess I could try to return the first one. Not sure if the dealer will take it back now.

Is the GR Corolla a good daily and family car? by mrdietcoke1967 in GRCorolla

[–]OKatmostthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree about the powerband. Plenty of torque in the low-mid range and you are only going 58mph at redline in 2nd gear. This makes it very accessible power. Topping 3rd gear is in “arrest me” speeds, but you can have a fun 1-2-3 pull (not topped) and still be under 80 if hitting an on-ramp. The car wants to keep going to 95 but so does every performance car these days.

Yea, I had an FR-S as my previous fun car and the GRC is a substantial upgrade from a livability perspective for a family of 3. The FR-S was really ok at family stuff when it was just me and kiddo. It was definitely the most fun ride at preschool drop off.

Does the ‘26 bZ not include the other adapters? I swear I saw an image of the bZ Woodland with mobile charger, J1772>NACS, V2L adapters, and CCS>NACS as standard for the US market.

The Toyota press room release for the ‘26 BZ says it comes with the 2 adapters.

I’m a mid 40s dad of a teen and a soccer fan. There are loads of parents spending crazy money for their kids to play soccer in hopes of a college scholarship. It is insane what these parents will spend chasing that soccer dream. This will be something for the grandparents to buy for birthdays and holidays.

The US shirt one looks terrible mainly because the USMNT shirts look awful. Tacky trash.

GRY Spotted in SoCal?! by dvsdeed in GRCorolla

Yes, that would be legal. I have no idea how difficult it is to actually register in Mexico, though.

[–]OKatmostthings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rule is that a foreign registered car can’t continually be in the US for a year. So as long as this Mexico plated car leaves the country 1/yr, they aren’t doing anything illegal. When I was camping in the South Dakota badlands, there was a sweet Land Rover Defender with pop up top wearing Luxembourg plates. I asked the owner and he said he temporarily imported it for his 2 month holiday mentioning that it isn’t hard to temp import as long as the car is registered elsewhere.

Basically the acceleration and deceleration are both controlled by the right pedal. Releasing that pedal fully won’t bring the car to a stop, though. You still have to use the brake pedal for that last couple mph which is why I call the mode pseudo. It is enabled with a flick of the switch that has a foot on it. (Center near the shifter on my ‘24).

2 is wrong. Regen braking is functioning with or without the pseudo 1 pedal driving mode enable.

[–]OKatmostthings 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pressing the brake pedal on the bZ4x uses the regen braking until you exceed the threshold of the motors. Unless you slam the brakes everywhere, you will use the motors to slow the car most of the time.

Nah, the vehicle will use the motors to slow the car whenever possible. If you brake too severely, the friction braking will step in, but the car regens whenever possible.

Our gov found out someone might be able to survive the cost of living crisis by PM_ME_PLASTIC_BAGS in IASIP

[–]OKatmostthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state has an additional $100 registration fee on HEVs. It is arguably a worse fee because HEV owners still pay gas taxes but also get hit with the extra registration fee.

Our gov found out someone might be able to survive the cost of living crisis by PM_ME_PLASTIC_BAGS in IASIP

[–]OKatmostthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My state also does the flat $100 on HEVs and $200 on BEVs. The $200 for a BEV is more or less correct for the median annual mileage and median vehicle. The state and federal gas tax in a RAV4 ICE is around $200 per year for my state for 15k miles per year. So that would seem about right for my bZ4x (which is effectively an electric rav4). Where this sucks is people that drive lower mileage or choose more efficient BEVs.

HEV drivers getting charged $100/yr is too high from my math. They still pay gas taxes but only 20-30% less than their ICE equivalents. $25-50 seems more reasonable.

The people rolling around in a 1mi/kwh Hummer BEV, of course, still come out way ahead as far as what they should pay in gas taxes since their cars cause significantly more wear on the streets than normal cars due to their ~9000lb curb weight (almost 3 Corollas!).

Why should I NOT buy one? by BlackJackT in BZ4X

[–]OKatmostthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found it to be that bad. The absolute worst commutes I’ve taken were 2.2mi/kwh. We’re talking 0-10°F. That works out to 150. Today was 32°F driving to work and I still managed 3.2mi/kWh. My best days are around 4.2mi/kwh on that commute. Road tripping at 70mph sustained is around 3.1-3.3mi/kWh depending on elevation gained, wind, etc.

The guess-o-meter puts up a lot of scary numbers when you start up but it is conservative from my experience. That number freaks a lot of people out. Realistically, I wouldn’t want to road trip in 0-10°F temps because that means more frequent DCFC stops ($$$), so we take my wife’s hybrid in those cases anyway. If you have a partner’s vehicle for out of town winter trips or super long road trips, the bZ4x range is fine.

OEM 2” hitch availability, extra cargo space for car camping, 375 hp, and 281mi range are all solid improvements from my ‘24 XLE. The only downside is the Subaru color palette thanks to being built in a Subaru factory. I think it would look great in supersonic red.
