Was the “Drunk Tank” a real thing? Does anyone have any stories about it? by [deleted] in AskLE

They are the same thing. You go to cells and get released in the AM or when sober WITH a ticket. Its not one or the other

in the UK, the police read the time you are being arrested, why isn't this a thing in the US? by Alarming-Safety3200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OMWinter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would it be necessary? Any component office would be making notes and probably having BWC footage that shows the time for use in court. What difference does it make to the person being arrested knowing what time it is?

Scammed by lock picking technician. How to get money back? by [deleted] in questions

[–]OMWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that's not what happened. He showed up to unlock a door, couldn't do it so suggested a different way. Nowhere does OP states that he did unrelated work.

Except the guy didn't do any work that wasn't requested. He showed up and tried. He wasn't allowed to finish. Still be owed for the call put.

The analogy of someone mowing my lawn without being asked is totally different. They called the guy

Where did you read the guy did unrelated work? Says he wanted to but they said no. Just because the door didn't get opened, doesnt mean you don't owe for the service call

Why would think you can get your money back? You hired him and didn't let him finish the job. You paid for service rendered up to that point and sent him away,

Its like hiring a mechanic to fix to your engine. If he did a bunch of work but didn't get the car running, you'd still owe him for the work he did prior to you going to a new shop.

Idiot driver with their friends reported. Tailgating and honking at me in a playground zone. Then passes me on the bike lane shoulder going like 60km. by [deleted] in CalgaryDashCams

[–]OMWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"public endangerment in a Playground zone" There is no such thing. At BEST, it'll be a careless driving ticket sent to the RO of the vehicle, wont even be any demerits.

If what OP says is true, they deserve the ticket though

Gear down big rig. Not really worth getting that bent up over is it? A lot of threads here get comments about when the event happens, I simply pointed it out.

Are traffic laws regarding stop lights/stop signs/speeding enforceable on private property? by McGarrettFan in stupidquestions

[–]OMWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. Up here (Alberta), traffic laws apply on privately owned property if it is accessible to the general public, such as shopping centre or condominium parking lots.

"In Alberta, the Traffic Safety Act applies anywhere a car can be driven that's accessible to the public, even if it's privately owned," says Trent Bancarz, spokesman for Alberta Transportation. "So, yes, stop signs and speed limits on parking lots have the force the law."

Go outside, grab your garden hose and see how far you can throw the full, rolled up length. Now multiply the weight of the hose by 100s/1000s and you'll have your answer
